Geez, I'm famous again? Fire is still burning uncontrolled downslope and to the west of me. Closest large blaze is a good 4 or 500 feet away. Lots of burning trees up on the mountain, can see them better as it gets dark.

First Attempt at a Molded Holster.
Mark@Sea replied to gjohnsoniv's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I like the USMC black... I apply with a damp cotton ball. Use a thin coat and continue to rub it in. The first coat doesn't even completely cover, but as soon as it dries I apply another thin coat. I usually put at least 4 and sometimes a dozen coats on. Since I'm rubbing it in I don't have to buff between coats, and the final finish depends on how I buff, how many coats I've applied, and finally how many coats of sealer (again, applied thinly with a damp cottonball). Postal Service reports a 15.9 BILLION dollar loss
Mark@Sea replied to thundersnow's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
You want a really scary thought? The post office just has visibility. The rest of the iceberg is the city and state governments, and the unions, who also have a stellar (insert Carl Sagan saying "Trillions and Trillions") debt load looming. Now compound that with the Fed, medicare, social security... So many programs, government mandated... and each and every time the Congress looted the proceeds. Now they're discussing a 'carbon tax'. I'm sure the hundreds of billions proceeding from any such tax will go to a good cause... right out of my pocket and into Al Gores', 'cause he has to fund that next beach house somehow... -
Hey, Dolomite, no worries! Sorry to hear your memory is so bad... so, you got that twenty bucks you owe me?
-
The current 'carbon tax' proposal will slightly more than double my electric bill. As every 'industry' (The grocery store, the gas station, the company that makes my .22 ammo, for heavens' sake) will take a hit with such a tax, what do you suppose the end result will be?

It isn't who votes, it's who counts the votes. Given the slant of the media, there is a good chance that even if an R voter were to step forward, it wouldn't get any exposure. And given the black panthers apparently have a free hand in Philly, stepping forward might not be the wisest thing to do. Yes, absolutely there was vote fraud on a massive scale. No, there will be no DOJ investigations from this administration.

When you chamber a round, do you ease the bolt home or let it slam shut?

I've been building one up for my niece... Stealth rifle - looks pretty much like the stock carbine.

Thanks, I needed that!

I've got one of those gassification type hiking stoves. Great stove, but you're constantly feeding it twigs. Not that big a deal for boiling water, as mine will boil a cup of water in under 2 minutes, but for charging a phone? I prefer the little hand crank weather radios. Solar cell, flashlight, NOAA/AM/FM, and can be used to charge a phone with a mini USB cord. They run 30 to 40 bucks.

Well, for not being racist, he plays racial politics very well. For someone who isn't a socialist, he has a lot of rather odd friends and associations. For someone who just has bad policies, he has a remarkable track record of policies and decisions that aren't just bad, but are the worst possible choice, in a wide variety of fields; foreign policy, economy, military, and constitutional law. You may be hearing something different - people hear what they want to hear, see what they expect to see - but I have no doubt the people saying something else are sincere.

Why didn't 94 million Americans vote?
Mark@Sea replied to greenego's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
West is contesting. He asked that all ballots and machines be impounded but judge denied. The lowest turnout in any ward was 113%. Right now they are focusing on recounts, and one of his staff said it was ridiculous to do recounts, it doesn't address the issue. I don't know when or if the question of fraudulent ballots will see airtime, suspect there is a reason this isn't getting any. -

158% turnout in Allen Wests' district. Fraud on a masssive scale. -

IAC Hawk - Chinese 870 clone with a ghost ring sight, 250 or less. -
I have tried the aguila mini-shells in Remington 870's, Ithaca 37's, Mossberg 500's, Winchester 1300 and '97. Haven't found one yet that will cycle them reliably. OTOH, they cycle very well in a double barrel coach gun.

The most apparent will happen by the end of the year. The worst? Well, that will take a year or more to shake out. Greater unemployment, obviously... but second order economic effects will be both less obvious and have a greater impact. That 'free' health care is gonna cost a lot of people everything.

Yeah, companies plan for things ahead of time. So yes, these layoffs and closings are certainly in response to the election. Some interesting notes on Obamacare - it will affect people who are currently part time, as it defines full time as 30 hours a week. It affects companies with 50 or more employees, but it doesn't kick in at the 50th, it starts with the 30th employee. So this will pretty much shoot temp agencies in the head. It also means temps won't be able to survive, unless they can get 2 part time jobs with different agencies.
-
Yep. Stupidest thing I've read today was comments from the left that these small business owners were firing people (getting below the 50 employee limit imposed by Obamacare) because they were racist, or just showing their displeasure over the results of the election. One genius stated they should be sued by the ACLU. Sorry, kids, you blew the fuse on the ice cream machine. Whining isn't gonna help.

NRA is a single issue organization. They will and have endorsed democrats over republicans based on their attitude and votes for or against 2A. How does this make them right wing extremists? Romney lost for a couple of reasons - primarily because of the mainstream media covering for him on a dozen or more serious issues, and secondarily because he hasn't previously been a great friend of conservatism. You can avoid the political threads, you can bring something more to the table (something besides insults, strawmen, and whining) or you can find another forum. The thinning of your patience (or skin) is your problem, not mine.

. Sounds like fun, but I won't hit a CNN link for love or money.

If that's being an a-hole, then sign me up.

At least two members here have mentioned they've been laid off this week. HvyMtl, you need to let all these companies know how well the economy is doing, and maybe mention what a great deal Obamacare will be - that being the impetus for these closings. Show 'em some cherry picked graphs, that'll do it. The second order effects, companies shutting down or downsizing due to losing corporate customers and the hit the economy is going to take just before the new taxes cut in are really going to be dramatic.

How about some charts on real unemployment, deficit, national debt, household income? Then explain how cutting the number of oil and gas leases has no effect on the price of gasoline, again, because I missed that part. Then we can talk about inflation, and why the price of a pound of chicken has nearly doubled in the last 4 years. Now I know why the word 'unexpectedly' comes up so often when talking about the economy.

Ha. Just wait for the end of the year. I expect the last half of December will be a screaming race to the bottom.
Not agreeing with him, but I say that he used a sound tactic. He is greatly outnumbered here, so he struck, inflicted as much damage as possible and made a hasty retreat. Hard to have an opposing view around here.
Not at all, as long as you are able to articulate your reasoning. The tactics you describe are those of a guerilla, not someone interested in debate.
