  1. Registration inevitably leads to confiscation.  I would fight it as I would fight confiscation.   Would I support a simple "phone in, no firearm info, no fee" check?  Certainly, as long as you can assure me there will be no lasting record of any sort.  As Congress couldn't get the NCIS center to destroy their daily backups, I kind of doubt you can assure me of that - but feel free to try!  I feel certain most gun owners would give it a whirl, just for peace of mind.  I am equally certain the criminal element will continue to get their firearms as before - burglary and straw purchases, usually - and won't be bothered by this in the least.   Purchase permit?  It isn't "shall not be greatly infringed".  It says "shall not be infringed".  Now why do you suppose?    Again, this law is predicated on the belief that criminals can be trusted to obey the law, but law abiding citizens can't, and therefore must be tracked, registered, permitted.   In short, NO.
  2. The Columbine shooters got theirs from a female friend - another straw purchase.
  3. How about the psych eval part?  ANY state employee can red flag you, and there is no appeal.
  4. I'll bet you a hundred it covers all private sales.   Sale goes through the NICS system.  It is retained (by law) for 24 hours.  Backups are made every night, the backups are retained permanently. They are running their own illegal registration system now, but it is far from perfect.  This just helps perfect it.   It will have no impact on crime.
  5. Last time I saw a figure on this, less than 2% of armed criminals got their guns at gunshows.  The overwhelming majority stole them.  The others had a 'clean' friend buy them.     This is registration, nothing more.
  6. Limits firearms owners to 2 magazines. (Not per weapon - total) Limits magazines to 7 rounds (you can have a 10 round, but can only load 7) No mail order of ammunition Background check required for ammunition purchase Mental Health checks for current and future "Assault Weapon" owners (Ruger 10/22 could qualify) Registration of "Assault Weapons"   No grandfathering for previously legal magazines. http://www.nyfirearms.com/forums/laws-politics/41317-may-end-cuomo-ban-details.html
  7. This was also covered in a post on 3D printing, but they've made some improvements.   I'd recommend downloading and saving the file.  It's bound to be disappeared if a ban comes into effect.   http://defdist.tumblr.com/
  8. Actually, this may turn out to be our opportunity to put a stake through the heart of "sporting purposes".  I think imports are going to be his main angle of attack.   I'll also hazard a w.a.g. that he'll try to go after domestic magazines and rifles as 'destructive devices', and claim he can do this through a rule change by F troop.  Likewise for 'armor piercing' ammo.  Suddenly rifle ammo will fall under this.  He may attack ammo through the EPA.   I foresee lots of lawsuits arising, especially from the Second Amendment Foundation.  They asked to be present at Bidens' little clambake and were refused.
  9. I've owned a Hi-Power (A GP35 if you want to use the actual model number) since 1984.  It has been reliable and accurate.  If you've already got a Rami, get the GP35.  I will say that the CZ75B is every bit as good.
  10. At the moment, I'm trying to avoid my conscience.  It seems to be playing Shakespeare.  "Whether tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows...."
  11. In his world, a 'responsible' gun owner wouldn't own an 'assault weapon'.  The definition of which, I fear, is anything that holds more than 2 rounds, or can penetrate more than 3 layers of wet cardboard.
  12. If Remington were to move from union-controlled NY to Tennessee, they wouldn't need donations - although I am absolutely positive the state would cut them a lot of tax breaks.
  13. Next thing you know he'll be stamping his foot and getting all red faced - wait, too late.  He does that already. What a pitiful, wannabe, pint bottle tyrant.
  14. True or not, I don't give a flying you-know-what. Our right is recognized by the constitution, and executive orders aren't a trump card. Yep, a lot of people have paid more than they might have otherwise - hey, elections have consequences. Way I see it, though, there are hundreds of thousands of new owners with skin in the game. The scalpers that bought for resale can take it in the wallet, for all I care, but the newbies now have a vested interest in safeguarding our rights.
  15. Noveske has one that suits me to a tee, I think. Definitely want a flat top, the eyes aren't what they once were. I'm looking for something I can expect .25 from. An old friend in Virginia used to build such rifles for the state and Navy teams back when, but he has pretty much retired.
  16. I'm considering finding an AR with a free-float handguard.  Wanting something a bit more accurate than the run of the mill...  Any pointers or positive reviews?
  17.   I would hazard a guess that "the great majority" isn't all that great at this point.  Black rifles are either self-vaporizing or people are buying 'em.  Sure don't see them on the shelves at my LGS.  Mags - hahahahahaha.....  and ammo.  I'm crawling the net a couple hours a day looking for .223 that isn't 75 cents a round or more.  When I have found some, it has disappeared in a matter of hours.       I keep thinking of the Jews in Germany.  When they were made the scapegoats, they accepted all sorts of impositions and degradations to show the people they were 'unthreatening', good citizens.  They didn't stand up for themselves or their rights, and in the end it availed them nothing.     I wonder what would have happened if the six million that went meekly to death camps had instead armed themselves and told the NAZI party "bring it" (or if you prefer it in the original greek "Molon Labe").       Bullies (and the press are bullies) pick on soft targets.  I've never seen a bully pick on somebody that'd hash his lunch in a new york minute.
  18. Yeah, if they had fewer guns, there'd be less crime, right?
  19. Yeah, what it should tell us is that, regardless of the facts, anything they can twist in a bad way will be twisted.  Anything they can 'enhance' to further their goals will be 'enhanced'.  If it hinders or contradicts, it will be misreported or not reported at all.  Maybe you missed the 'journalism' evident in the election, or global warming, or a dozen other issues I can think of right off hand.  Do you suppose that the press may have tossed out the interviews of anyone who wasn't terrified?     We as a community have softpedaled, made nice, bent over backward to accomodate the press and those who we will never reach.  We've used facts, statistics, real-world examples.  We're still vilified and subjected to harassment.  We're shown not at our worst, but at the worst they can imagine.  You don't need to "give them ammunition", they make it up out of thin air.     I'm not Yeager, but neither am I Neville Chamberlain.
  20. Was it illegal?  Were they holding up a bank?  Maybe they were marching on the courthouse to take over the town, I must have missed that part.
  21. You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't use reason to arrive at.  You can't use the press to inform when the press is slanted against your position.  You can't use logic to shake an emotional faith.   Heck with it.  March on.
  22.     You went green on us, huh?  Only a matter of time before there's a windmill in your yard.  Oh well...  Hey, I can give you a special price on Gorebal warming, in case lots!
  23. Happens I know a little about safes.  The average gun safe can be opened in about 20 minutes.  The best of them can be opened in under an hour.  So you might want to find a police armory to store your weapons - that would be your best effort, right?   Get all the guns off 'the street' (out of civilian hands) and you'll still have criminals committing crimes with guns.* Get all the criminals (and insane) off the street, and you can't have gun crimes.  (Attributed to Jeff Cooper)   As someone else said, gun control is predicated on two faulty ideas.   That law abiding people cannot be trusted to obey the law and not shoot innocents   That criminals and the insane can be trusted to obey the law and not use firearms     *Want proof? Ref. Britain, Australia, and a bakers dozen of european countries with super strict firearms laws.  Yet gun crimes are still occurring.
  24. Banning private sales is useless without registration. Registration inevitably leads to confiscation. The Senate, except for the usual suspects, isn't gonna push a ban, Obamas' hi-viz anti-gun advertising campaign to the contrary. The House, if there is a functional brain cell left among them, isn't gonna pass anything either. Any bans, or additions under the NFA, would have to be by executive order. They wouldn't pass judicial review in any federal district court review or SCOTUS. Things are likely going to get really interesting, really soon.
  25. I just got a dozen 30 rd steel ar mags from Mako Group.  Well made, nice finish ( a little shiny for my taste, but nice), anti-tilt followers.   I can't get them to seat with 30 loaded, on a closed bolt.  With 28, they seat with a slap to the mag.  Seat fine with open bolt, no rattle, no slop.  Drop free.   Less than 20 a pop.     I won't post a link, but google is your friend.  I have no connection with them other than having ordered mags.  The really nice thing about these is that they are in stock and shipping daily.     This has been a public service announcement from Starship Hulls LTD and Garands-R-Us.
