Sent mine to trijicon recently. They offered to relamp them for $57 including return shipping. Great deal, I'm doing it.

I recently ordered a 2-pack of gold carry permit badges. Paid $13.49 including shipping so they were only $6.75 each: I got them because they were cheap and I teach firearms classes, so I want to show the students an example of what NOT to do. These things just look so much more ridiculous when you see them in person, they will make good visual training aids. They actually have a cheesy blue decal star in the middle which says "Pro Freedom 2nd Amend" around the circle. Looks like it came out of a kids cap gun set. I'm also considering offering them as an option to the students when they enroll, and if anyone orders one then I would closely scrutinize (and likely reject) their enrollment, unless they could demonstrate to me that they were truly logical mature adults but otherwise uneducated about the issue at hand. Sort of a "Barney Fife" filter.

Been to multiple vets many times for allergy problems with multiple dogs. Tried nearly every treatment known regardless of cost. Found the following: OTC allergy pills such as zyrtec do help, but be sure to get dose calculated based on your pet's weight. Get some peanut butter and smear a quarter sized gob around the pill, most dogs will devour it including the pill. Or try cheddar cheese at room temp, warm so it molds around the pill, but keep size small enough that they can gulp it down quickly. Frequent bathing (up to daily if needed) does help, especially during spring allergy season. Use a hypo allergenic unscented shampoo, we found Allergroom (from your vet or online) works well, but also get a similar product sold by Sams & Foster on their website which works well too. Our dog needed it twice a week which is inconvenient for owner and pet, but it's cheap and it works, and dog gets used to it quickly. Put her in your shower or tub if needed so you don't have to lift her much, and close bathroom door to prevent escape. We only do about once every month in winter or non-peak allergy seasons. When you don't have time for a full bath with soak in the shampoo, at least do a quick rinse or spray the dog off with a mist hose and dry with a towel. It removes a ton of allergens. Reduce the area they can use outdoors via a fence or run or leash. Keep them away from heavy wooded areas, flower beds, high grass, or sand/dirt that they will roll in to pick up tons of allergens. After bringing in from outside, wipe them down briefly (especially paws and tail) with a damp towel. Use a clean towel each day. This pulls the loose allergens off their fur. Switch to a low carb high quality all natural diet such as Origen dry food. Spoiled dogs may take a few days to adjust but they actually love Origen as it is high protein made mostly of real meat without fillers, so they avoid foods that aggravate allergy symptoms, and they dump less often so they don't need to go out as often. The fish flavor is especially helpful during peak allergy season. This stuff costs more but is worth every penny and will improve their health all around such that you will save on vet bills.

I recently received a Cardsharp credit card knife as part of the TGO secret santa exchange. It is a very cool gadget, literally the size of a credit card but folds to form a razor sharp surgical stainless blade in less than 15 seconds. I've seen them selling for $15-$25 plus shipping in the US, which seemed like an average price for a neat knife or gift. But then tonight I came across the same thing being sold direct from the offshore manufacturer for only $1.99 with free shipping via ebay. I have no relation to the foreign seller but thought I would share it here, so you gear nuts could grab a few. I got a bunch to use for friends and gifts. Enjoy! factory glock night sights vs trijicon
wileecoyote replied to Rhodewarrior's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've never measured lifespan of various night sights but I've tried them all. Trijicon have 12 year guarantee on illumination which is not too bad, and they will recharge or "relamp" a set for about half the retail price of a new set and then the guarantee starts all over again. Not sure what Glock would guarantee but probably nothing beyond their standard pistol warranty term, likely less than Trijicon term. In my experience they all start to look a little dim after 5-7 years, and even when they glow strong the dots are pretty small such that daylight sight acquisition suffers, thus I prefer to go with standard sights on most of my guns except the dedicated bedroom pistol. And for a dedicated low light shooter, a bright weapon light and/or laser is probably best anyway. -
This is not April 1st...
No joke here. If you need 22 lr and are willing to pay $50 per brick it's on goc now, or at least it was Saturday. He didn't say what guns he got, but I'm sure he'll sell them on goc too, if he hasn't already. I don't know him that well and he hasn't said much else about it. -
Yep, I got two of them. Just finished complete tear down, detailed reconditioning, metal treatment, lube, and reassembly. Replaced the burnt out night sights with new factory standard sights, which I like better, but will put new night sights on one of them soon. Pistols now look like new and I'll keep them that way. Might also order the 9mm and 357 sig conversion barrels for them to make a complete multi gun set.

big gun auction in Lebanon saturday the 15th
wileecoyote replied to seez52's topic in Events and Gatherings
I know someone that went. He got about 6 guns and a bunch of 22 bricks, which he is now selling on goc at $50 each. Not sure what he paid for all this stuff but he got it solely for resale. Don't know if he'll get it but I hate to see it being sold that high. -
I quit going to the Nashville show when they started charging for parking. It was always a smaller show, rarely any good deals, but I used to go a few times just to browse and kill time. Then when I looked at the gas money, time, parking, and admission I realized I was dropping around $50 for the privilege of leaving empty handed, so that was it. The Lebanon show isn't much better but it's close to home, and has free parking, so I go to it most times. Murfreesboro was the best show I've been to in the past year. Looking forward to meeting David again soon, lots more to buy.
Ain't no such thing as a tapered roll pin. Not surprised you haven't ever seen one :)
Actually that's not true, I've seen and worked on some other things that have roll pins inserted in tapered holes which makes the roll pin take on a slightly tapered shape. I've also seen some roll pins which have one end chamfered or tapered to facilitate easy entry. But this is different than a typical solid tapered pin so I know what you mean.
I'm going through the exact same dilemma! I'm also wanting to do it on the cheap but... After watching a Hickock45 Youtube reloading video where he compares the Rock Chunker to a Dillon progressive, I'm leaning towards spending the extra $100.00 or so for the Dillon? I can just see myself down the road reloading 9mm / .45 and thinking, "why didn't you spend a little extra money on what you wanted the first time"? That's just me.
I went through the same dilemma too, more than 20 years ago. I had almost no money but I splurged for the Dillon and I don't regret it. You will have a Dillon machine for life and be able to hand it down to others after you are done, and they have a no-bs lifetime replacement policy for parts, plus the speed and quality of loading is so much better. When you spread the additional cost over the 20+ years of use, it is a no-brainer to get the dillon.
The pin is tapered, try punching it out from the other directions!
I've built and worked on hundreds of AR guns, never seen one with a tapered gas tube roll pin. Only FSB pins are tapered.
-
Place the FSB on a wooden block, a 2x4 works well, and drill a 1/4" hole in the block under the gas tube pin area. Set the block and FSB on hard concrete surface. Make sure you are using a hardened steel roll pin punch which is not bigger than the pin. Drive it firmly with a heavy hammer. It will come out.

.22 LR needed for William Blount shooting team
wileecoyote replied to itw69fxst's topic in Training Discussions
Great to hear that these kids are shooting so often in this club. No doubt learning a lot about the shooting sports, becoming pro 2A supporters (future voters), and I'm sure the competition is healthy for them as well. I make it a top priority to support similar organizations, and as an instructor I start dozens of new shooters every year, many of them women and kids. I eagerly donate my time, supplies, equipment, gas, vacation days, and much ammo to the cause. Yet I wouldn't encourage donations of 22lr for shooting clubs like this during our current shortage, and I'll tell you why. Most competition clubs are going to have the same shooters shooting over and over again, for frequent practice and matches. Thus this one group of kids will burn through a large amount of a relatively scarce precious commodity that could otherwise be used to benefit many more shooters of similar age and circumstance. So rather than this club gobbling up 270,000 rounds in a year (30 shooters X 200 rounds per week X 45 shooting weeks per year), I would much rather see that same ammo be given out to 540 new shooters who would each get a full brick to get started shooting and have at least 3 or 4 normal shooting sessions. For clubs and competitive shooting I think they should focus on using ammo that is cheap and readily available, switching to airgun or reloading center-fire cartridges if needed to fuel their high volume shooting without taking away precious ammo from so many other new shooters. The appleseed rifle clinics are a great example of starting new shooters with just one brick per student, and believe me it makes a huge impact on those kids (and adults) who participate, so I would recommend saving donations of scarce 22lr for programs like the appleseed classes. -
Been there, done that. Several times. Currently in Wilson county. Main issues: Make sure you are outside city limits and outside of any subdivisions, as most will have city ordinances, land covenants, or homeowners associations with rules against shooting of any kind. Check the laws yourself, ask a qualified attorney if you need help. Don't rely on neighbors, local police, realtors, etc. as they are often misinformed and their advice is not an acceptable defense to any violations. Even in counties which allow shooting on your land, you need to minimize noise or you will likely end up with neighbors complaining, especially if you shoot frequently or early/late in the day. And of course you need to be mindful of proper and safe range development concepts to be absolutely sure no rounds leave the range or pose a safety risk for surrounding homes, people, roads, animals, or properties. If you think of actually building a real formal range facility then all sorts of regulations and permits will apply, and will be cost prohibitive for most folks. The nra has a great package of info, and even a formal class for this purpose should you want to go this route. For casual personal shooting you are better off keeping it out of sight, unobtrusive, and natural... and being careful not to shoot too often or otherwise aggravate the neighbors. I usually talk with them in advance and explain what I'm going to do so they know what to expect and will talk to me first with any concerns.

I've been mentoring two 17 year old boys for the past year and they are both getting ready to graduate from high school. Both are honors students with good gpa, excellent physical condition, and have tested in top ranks on asvab and similar tests. Both are very seriously considering military careers and have been in touch with several branch recruiters, however we've been less than impressed with the recruiter response. I've personally made a half dozen calls trying to setup appointments to discuss enlistment options, they almost never call back, and when I press it they end up debating which recruiter has jurisdiction over the high schools and then pushing me off to others who also fail to return calls. Well we've managed to get some background info anyway but what we really need now is for these boys to talk with some actual service members, not recruiters, to hear the pros and cons first hand. They are both currently favoring the Navy with dreams of making a seal team, which may not be too crazy because they have both been heavily involved in competitive tactical sports for years and I've gotten them pretty far along on the shooting skills as well. Secondary considerations include nuclear tech, aircraft mechanic, or who knows. So I'm hoping we have a few veteran TGO members that are currently serving or have recently served, that would be willing to chat with one or both of these boys informally. Any branch or MOS is fine and your perspective would be valuable, both pro and con. We can do this via phone, conference call, or meet up in person for coffee or a meal (my treat). If you are interested in helping these boys please just PM me your info and I'll get in touch to discuss background and figure out next steps.

Ive joined things in the past that looked reasonable, only to realize its become a deal w the devil after submitting a claim or using the benefit.......hence my inquisition
I think I can pass along a life membership for $300. If you want to do this just pm me. I'm already benefactor but going to take the last step now for patron.
I'm guessing there is much more to the story. 21,000 bottles in 30 months? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, I had a lot of sympathy for the guy at first, and I'm not a fan of government busting you for selling legal items. But selling 700 bottles per month (24 bottles per day) for nearly 3 years at such a massive profit is pretty crazy... and if you continued to do it at such volume after the police warned you multiple times that these were drug dealers buying it... So the real question is: what does the law say about the store/vendor/business owner liability for selling legal items that are later used in a crime? I don't know the law here but suspect the seller is obligated to refuse the sale if they know or have reason to suspect that the items are being used illegally. If so, then this guy is likely guilty as charged, assuming the story is accurate.

Just got burned by their recent sale of winchester 22 1000 rds for $49.99, was $59 shipped. I got one, so did brother and several friends. Then 4 days later get the email saying order canceled, reason = sold out. Complete BS.
I have seen the 'bully sticks' at Rural King, but they seem to be the smaller ones, they appear to be rolled up leather? The wife suggested them this weekend but I was hesitant to pay $6 for what I was convinced would be a five minute toy. That is why I like the pig ears, I give them to her as treats, one a day and they run $.79. I really would like to find a $1 or thereabouts chew that lasts here at least a day. The pig femur has been the closest, but she lost interest after she ate the knuckles.
Bully sticks are dehydrated bull penis and they are huge. The local stores are way too small and way overpriced. Once you see how long the large thick sticks last, and how much the dog loves them, and your vet confirms they are much healthier... It's a slam dunk. We get the huge sticks on ebay in bulk, much cheaper around $2-$3 for the biggest size, which can last up to a week for small dogs. My small dog likes them so much he takes it everywhere, outside... car rides... even to bed in his nest until it's all gone. Then he begs for another.. Also, most natural bones are at least somewhat risky because splinters, chips, and slivers can cause internal injuries. And rawhide is not digestible so it can jamb them up too. Ask your vet. We all want a cheap high quality treat that is healthy and lasts a long time, however there is no free lunch. Buying the large thick bully sticks in bulk from eBay is about the closest we've come, and they do last longer than nearly all of the unhealthy alternatives. Another tip: don't tell the women what bully sticks really are, or they will be grossed out. This is why they call them "bully sticks" and market accordingly.
-
Dogs are a great gift from God. Nice to see they all got homes. For dogs that love to chew, get some "bully sticks" from eBay. The extra thick large ones are about 12" long and 3/4" diameter. They are extremely tough, take hours or days to chew, and are fully digestible and healthy, unlike rawhide which can block your dog's digestive track and cause major health problems. They are not that cheap at about $1-$3 each after shipping but that is still pretty good compared to buying lower quality treats in local stores. And I guarantee your dog will LOVE them more than anything else in the pantry except maybe fresh steak or salmon on the grill...

Here are a few pics, hope these help... I just posted it for sale again and listed it as a "CZ type" pistol, please let me know if this is incorrect. I am also planning to post it in TGO Classifieds as soon as David can help fix my account, which is currently stuck in a technical glitch that will not let me renew.
