Could probably have it at the Natl guard armory and it would be an upgrade.
I heard there was a plan in the works to build a new event facility, and if completed they expect it would be one of the largest shows around. No word on time-frame though so it likely won't happen any time soon.

I've been to it about a dozen times, and sold with a vendor at half of them. It was always pretty slow, especially on Sundays, and even the busiest times were mostly people looking to sell or trade their own guns instead of bringing cash. So the small show size, low traffic, and lack of cash customers is what keeps many of the better dealers away, which in turn reduces the crowd even more. They are trying to find a bigger event center to hold a much larger show in Lebanon, and if successful I think it would be well attended, assuming the promoter gets the word out.

I've been wanting to get a really top of the line gas helicopter for the longest time. Will do so eventually, but not sure what setup is best to start out and I never seem to have all the hours free to research it and learn all the details. So I just recently got a Syma 107 battery powered helicopter on Amazon for only $15. This thing is all steel and flies great indoors which is fun when you want a little enjoyment at night or in bad weather. Chasing the dog around takes some practice even with this small 3.5 channel unit but it's fun.

This is an interesting thread with diverse opinions, especially when viewed in the context of all the similar threads regarding .22 ammo over the past few months. Yet it seems that nearly everyone would agree on the following points: 22 LR ammo is still in very high demand with very low supply (I actually read a recent gun mag article which said it was readily available again... what the hell was that author smoking? :pleased:) We would quickly purchase more 22 LR ammo if we can find it at decent prices (seems like $35 or less per brick delivered is the magic number for many) If we do score 22 LR ammo, we do not hesitate to share our good fortune with family, friends, and other forum members (especially kids or new shooters) We dislike, hate, and/or actively hunt down and persecute the resellers or vendors which are price-gouging (seems like anyone selling for $50 or more per brick is lumped into this category regardless of circumstance) The major points of contention and controversy seem to occur when we hear of those who were actually successful at purchasing 22 LR ammo, with reactions to this group being mixed based on the nature of the purchase: "campers" that visit local stores often enough and wait in the stores long enough until they score the ammo as soon as it hits the shelves "insiders" that have special access to local store information or store clerks that allow them to purchase ammo which was not otherwise made available to other customers "online buyers" that happened to find and purchase ammo via special search agents such as Google, AmmoSeek, Slickdeals, GunBot, etc. "lucky folks" who reported just being in the right store at the right time and buying whatever was available at the time, without having camped out Judging from the many posts in this thread and other TGO threads, it seems that most people dislike groups 1 and 2 above, while we fully support and celebrate groups 3 and 4. I tend to agree with this logic. Yet I was torn on the issue of "special links" such as the Cabelas shopping cart links, because they allowed successful purchases for those who had the technical savvy or luck to find out about the special links or process top create their own links, while other customers that were visiting those same sites at the same time would not find any ammo for sale because they did not have the special link info. Now part of me said that the special link info was technically available to anyone that knew how to find or use it, so it initially seemed to be ok, but I also realized that the vast majority of consumers would never know about that link or process so it ended up having the same outcome as "insider" sales with a select few benefitting at the expense of the majority. In the end this was the factor that swayed my opinion against the special links from being fair game, as they would allow a small group of those "in the know" to get what little ammo was available, at the expense of a much larger group (which just happens to include many parents with kids and new shooters) that just didn't find out about the trick. And then what really convinced me was when Cabelas disabled the links from working, as this would seem to be an indicator that they did not originally intend for the ammo to be sold in that manner, and are presumably working to fix that. To those that are disappointed with the special links being disabled, you should remember that Cabelas will still sell the exact same amount of ammo, they will just sell it all via the same "normal" retail method with every consumer having the same chance of finding it in stock, and that is the preferred way in my books. And just for the record, I only purchased 1 brick of ammo from Cabelas when I found a special link on Slickdeals about a week before this TGO thread was ever started, and I did not realize that it was a special shopping cart trick at the time. I have just recently received that ammo and am giving 60% of it away for free on this forum, with the other 40% going to two of my teenage shooters (for free) for their NRA Marksmanship training this spring. This is just my $0.02 worth. I am certain everyone here will have their own opinions, many different than mine and that is awesome. I am not trying to convince anyone, just sharing my perspective and thought process. To each his own, and please don't hate on your fellow TGO members even if they have a different opinion than you. This is a very cool forum which is better than most - let's keep it that way. -
I live nearby so go most of the time, mainly out of boredom, and typically come away disappointed. Even when buying a few small accessories it's never enough savings to cover the entry fee. I've been to quite a few shows in middle TN but this is one of the smallest, and seems to have the highest percentage of browsers that come in with a bunch of guns hoping to sell or trade them, they never have cash to buy anything. The majority of these guys ask ridiculous prices for their guns which are usually in rough condition too, so rarely any good deals to be had on guns from dealers or private sellers. But what the heck, it's only $8 and parking is free. There's worse things to waste your money on.
pretty sure it's not a glitch... it is a programmed "feature" that works exactly as designed. you might not like it, but it has been available since 2009... you might just want to learn how to use it... or not... the choice is yours.
If Cabelas wants it to work that way then you don't need to worry about them changing it when people report it as a bug or glitch. -
Why is that a red flag? Lots of people don't save the factory stuff, or they lose it, or they buy guns used without it. If you ask to see his TN state ID and sign a bill of sale and he declines, or if you have some other reason to believe he is shady then by all means decline the deal, otherwise you should be good to go. But if you insist on running a check you can call your local PD and ask if they will run it for you. Or you can go to any ffl dealer and ask them to do a TICS transfer for you which includes a check for stolen.
If it were my company, I'd have sold those 2 pallets at cost for a few reasons: 1) It'd sell quickly and I'd make my money back 2) Customers would realize there's better places to buy than the "armslist resellers" 3) I'd be stealing customers from the resellers 4) I'd be drawing in customers who would possibly buy other items with better profit margins 5) I'd generate positive attitudes about my business and potentially generate repeat customers Looks like what EW is doing is having the same effects... just exactly opposite. That's 2 stores in that area I'll never visit. Mac
This. But I would have limit 1 brick per customer, period. Show your DL and I would record the # on a log to make sure you don't buy more later. And I'd mark each box "Sold at cost for $X by Acme Guns, not for resale. Thanks for your business!"

Note: the article says at the end that TN has already classified e-cigs as tobacco products as well, so it seems taxes are coming soon to a state near you. Also, wouldn't be surprised to see Obama charge the ATF with regulating them, gives them something else to do.
-
Just read this: States push to regulate e-cig industry http://fxn.ws/1gykMv9 I've never smoked in my life, never will, but this infuriates me. First, the e-cig products are not tobacco, and they are not cancer-causing so not your typical "sin tax" target, thus they should not be taxed any more or less than any other retail purchase. But F'ing governments are taxing them just like real cigarettes out of pure greed, no doubt to give more money away via entitlement programs. As gun owners we need to fight this concept the same as special taxes on ammo, guns etc. or many of our favorite purchases might be up next on the "sin tax" block. And MN taxed them at 95%!!!
why is it difficult to believe that these warriors didn't earn their honor?
I honestly didn't read the news story, just the headline that said Obama awarded the MOH to 24 black soldiers. That certainly indicates he was using race as a major factor when selecting this group, unless you believe that he did a comprehensive review of all candidates and just happened to pick 24 black soldiers in a row by sheer coincidence. If the story said he had awarded 24 caucasian or latino soldiers I would have made the same conclusion. Race, sex, religion, etc. shouldn't even be listed on the nomination form, and certainly shouldn't be a major factor in any review or decision.
-
I love it how people (mostly politicians and corporate leaders) announce their total disdain for racism, then they turn around and take actions (hiring, firing, promotions, awards, etc) based on race as a major factor. I've always felt that racism was wrong in all flavors and at all times, and two wrongs don't make a right. I can understand the argument about making a few reparations to more quickly balance the scales or right injustice in isolated cases, but believe we are well past those days now, so any continued accounting for race as a factor is just furthering racism.

If you strip out all the juvenile attempts at insult and humor, he seemed to make several points: 1: He claims that the special links are not a hack or bug, and this is the normal course of business desired by Cabelas. Nobody knows for sure unless you work in Cabelas' technology department and lead their web design projects, but this is highly unlikely. Any retailer would like to sell as much product as possible to as many people as possible while maximizing profit. So it stands to reason that Cabelas would prefer any 22 ammo that was available to be immediately visible and available for sale, such that it could be sold as quickly as possible. They also want customers to be treated fairly and have a fair chance at getting popular products with limited supply, which is why they limit 22 lr sales to 1 per customer per day. So they are unlikely to have designed the website to hide ammo that is otherwise available for sale, while at the same time making it available for sale via a special link or series of non-intuitive steps that only a small percentage of customers would stumble upon. So to be consistent and generate the most sales while also serving the most customers, they would need to fix the website to make all available inventory visible for sale all the time, or fix the checkout process to prevent sales of marginal inventory that is otherwise not visible and available via the normal website functions. Obviously most consumers would prefer that they don't hide marginal inventory, so it's best for them to make it always available all the time without special links or tricks, unless they had some other special reason for hiding marginal inventory or allowing the conflicting methods. 2 - He insults and makes fun of people that have a special way of getting 22 lr ammo (going to stores early and often) but then he wants the Cabelas checkout bug to remain in place so that he too can still have a special way of getting ammo. Both methods are technically available to anyone at anytime, however they are not practical or intuitive for everyone, thus each method gives a different group an advantage, and many consumers are left out of both. Everyone has an opinion. Mine is that any available ammo should be for sale to everyone at fair prices with everyone having a fair chance. Thus I do not object to local stores selling what they get when they get it, and I also prefer that Cabelas fix their website to make all marginal inventory available via normal methods. -
I am certainly against schools banning otherwise legal items and behaviors, however it does seem kind of creepy and unusual for a 9 year old boy to carry a backpack which most would associate with little girls. The same would be true if he decided to wear pink pants or a bow in his hair... not illegal and shouldn't be banned, but if the kid decides to do these things then he better "man up" and take what goes along with it. Not condoning bullying, which is clearly wrong, but kids that behave oddly or different than the rest are going to be treated by their peers a bit differently, same as in adult life. We shouldn't run to protect kids from every little thing in life, rather we should prepare them for responsible adulthood by helping them realize that there are choices and consequences. Now if this kid were handicapped in some way then it's totally understandable and he should be given the necessary slack, but if he's otherwise normal and healthy then it's time for him to toughen up a bit or behave in a more traditional manner until he is ready to brave being different.

I just got an email from cabelas with a ups tracking number for my single brick of 22 ammo. It hasn't actually shipped yet but is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday. But please note: my order was placed via a different link from SLICKDEALS.NET several days before this S&W link was posted here, so my chances of getting it while it was really in stock were better than most. Hope some of you get lucky as well, this will make me 1 for 5 in the past 4 months with cabelas, maybe it was just my turn... If I do get this brick, we will have some fun with it on TGO... -
I have several, and have several friends with several. They are OK, work as advertised. I like the grip size and trigger reach, good for folks with medium or small hands. I like the slide which is easier to rack than many similar guns. I dislike the manual safety (bad if used for defense), the odd mag release (push down to operate), and the relatively cheap materials (lots of plastic and cheaper metal than the better brands). So I recommend it mostly for target work, and maybe home defense in special situations where the shooter isn't a good fit for other guns, but I wouldn't recommend it for carry or serious defense. Instead I'd look at the Kahr CW9 or 380 equivalent.

I wouldn't call it cheating the system. If they have a bug in their system that let's you order something that is otherwise out of stock then it's up to them to fix the bug. My only beef with Cabelas is for the 22 ammo links in the past few months, they have canceled quite a few orders after placement with nothing but a generic "sold out" email, instead of offering to backorder and ship the product to you as soon as the next shipment arrives. I know they are normally a good company and don't have this problem for other items, but they are going to keep disappointing a lot of folks until they fix the order bug. Also, if they really do have a secret stash of 22 which is for sale but not visible on their website via normal methods, that's just plain wrong. -
That'll make you a few enemies I bet.
It's a good thing. The bug in their website did not magically manufacture more 22 ammo, it only allowed you to see it as in stock and pay for it, even after it was out of stock. Yes, a few people will say "it worked for me and I got my ammo" but those were the lucky few that ordered quick enough while the ammo was really still in stock. If you want to be sure, just search for the ammo on their site the normal way, if it doesn't show up then they are sold out. -

I ordered a brick from Cabelas a few days ago via a similar link found on SLICKDEALS.NET but the last 4 times I did that the orders were always canceled and refunded within a week for reason "sold out". I still say you won't get any 22 via these special links unless it was also visible in stock via their normal site search and browse functions at the time of your order. But if I do get a brick this time, I am going to do something fun with it that will benefit our TGO members. Keeping my fingers crossed... :D -
Every gun at a gun show is going to be overpriced. The vendors have to make up for their costs and time to attend somehow. Even the rare case when you find something cheap there, that same item would likely have sold for even a little bit less if the seller didn't have to pay the overhead of the gun show. But I don't go to gun shows to save money on guns. I go to browse a large selection of things, handle new things in person, talk with pro gun folks, take some friends, support the industry, and buy a few accessories if I see reasonable prices for things on my list. If I come home with a gun you can bet it was a crazy good deal, a very unique/rare item, or something I really wanted bad. Still, I decided to skip Tullahoma because I prefer larger shows, wouldn't be worth my time and gas to drive down there if it is a small show. Murfreesboro was the best show in middle TN I have seen in the last few years.

Sam Adams most definitely took a stand, by opting out of the parade because they won't openly advertise LGBT. This surprised me, as the safer option would have been to stay in the parade and just not comment on the issue either way. It's not like the parade is about any particular issue, pro or con, it's about St. Patrick and that's it. There won't be any PRO or ANTI LGBT displays in the parade so staying in would have been the safest choice. It's ok with me if Sam Adams owners care deeply enough about LGBT to take a stand supporting the issue, but it is a side I don't agree with so I'm unlikely to drink their beer again, and it was my preferred beer until now. In fact I just tried to order a Sam Adams last night and opted for water to protest the establishment I ate at for not carrying Sams. I happily support companies which are truly neutral or that don't actively support extreme positions, but once they feel it necessary to openly take a stand on certain issues then I only support them when they are aligned with my own beliefs. By taking a stand that is what they want you to do, every stand they take is deliberate and calculated from a marketing perspective with financial impact in mind, so they should not be surprised by the outcome of some folks backing away from them now.

I'm just getting started with casting and in search of lead. From what I read, a 5 gallon bucket full of wheel weights is typically about 1/3 lead and the rest zinc, steel, or junk. So I figured on getting maybe 60+ lbs. of lead from a full bucket after sorting and smelting, thus I planned to pay the provider $30 per bucket based on current scrap prices around $0.50 per lb. for lead. I've visited a few tire shops but they said they have contracts with recycling companies, so I assume they are getting paid for it already. I called a few scrap yards and none of them even answered the phone. Anyone have excess wheel weights or lead they want to sell, or have a tip on sourcing in the Lebanon area?
As long as the resellers keep buying it at .03-.05 a round, the suppliers have no idea what the market price demands. So I don't buy the " they will jack the prices because we pay .15 a round. The first buyer IS paying normal prices. It's the reseller market we need to control and worry about. So as far as the numbers go, the manufacturers and wholesales people think... The market is paying .03-.04. Think about that. They have no record or trace of the gunbroker or armalist market value.
I agree. That is why I said I'll never spend more than $30 per brick delivered from a retailer. Private party sale I have purchased a few bricks for as much as $40 per brick to help friends out, and I'd do so again if needed. I don't even mind a private reseller making about $10 per brick profit, it saves me lots of trips to Walmart and other retailers, and hours of web crawling to find the ever illusive in stock deals.
I have several times when I've ordered. If it showed in stock.
This is the key. If Cabelas' site will allow you to search for and find the product on your own, and it shows in stock and you check out before it sells out, then your order will almost certainly be filled and shipped. But if you are using a special link provided by someone else that has a shopping cart code imbedded in it, and the product doesn't otherwise show up in stock on their website, then your order will almost certainly be canceled. The confusion certainly comes in when the first few dozen / hundreds of people initially get the link and purchase while the item really is still in stock, and they do receive their items. But then later the links are posted on forums and emails, and thousands of people order expecting to get ammo, but instead get their orders canceled. Cabelas needs to fix the bug on their website so it does not allow you to complete the checkout process when the item is sold out, and ideally fix it so that the item never shows in stock when it's not, regardless of what link to you use.
