  1. If full size is ok, then I would be looking at a CZ 75. Great all around gun. Nothing against Taurus, but this wouldn't even be a comparison.
  2.   Now that you say it, it is quite possible that our system combines multiple reports into one.  There are so many systems now that it is becoming more and more complex.  The last US implementation I did was back in 2006, so things could have changed as well.  In the end, I think it's pretty safe to assume they can get the info on if you have an HCP.   I agree with TMF about the firearms purchase records though.  They aren't in NCIC after 24 hours, but I suspect the good old NSA knows what I have bought.
  3.   Can't answer that, but I can tell you it does show up.  The laws are different I suppose and since there isn't a law against it, it can show up.  Keep in mind this isn't public information, but law enforcement info.  This isn't the same as TN saying that HCP's are not available anymore to the public.
  4.   You are correct, they certainly aren't tied to your tag.  The reason it could come up is most of the time, when they run a tag, the systems will also automatically run the registered owner.  Of course, if you're not the owner, no way they will know without running your DL.
  5. Every police dispatch system in the country should be running NCIC checks when they run a tag.  Their system may also run local warrants databases, etc, but everyone will receive the exact same NCIC report no matter the state.   There are also state databases sometimes that have additional information.  It may take some extra time for some info to make it to NCIC, but it will get there.     I am not a law enforcement officer, but I have worked with probably 150 agencies around the country setting up the dispatch systems.  They are all running very similar queries for reports against the state and national databases.
  6. Yes, typically NCIC will tell them you have an hcp.
  7.       I guess I just don't live my life solely on one issue.  We have an issue with Cuba, but most of the other part of the world don't and I have been told that it is a great place to vacation.  I don't have to agree with everything somewhere else to go visit it.  I also don't fret over not having a gun with me 24/7.   Lots of great places to go see around the world that don't allow guns.  If that is your sole decider no problem, but it won't stop me.
  8.   True, I should say that Southern Illinois has some very nice areas.  Middle to upper is mostly corn and soybean fields, but they do grow them some big deer.
  9.   I get a kick out of these statements.  It's the same as the I'll never go to Illinois statements.  Let's be clear, NY is not simply NYC and Illinois is not simply Chicago.  Get 45 miles outside of either one and you are most likely in a conservative area.  The problem is that the two large cities over represent the larger area of the state.  It's unfortunate, but I know as many rednecks and conservatives from NY and IL as I do TN.  There are some beautiful parts of NY and IL and some other Liberal leaning states.  I don't let their ignorance dictate my desire to go take in the beauty of our country.  You're missing out if you do.   This is also not to say that I agree with their douchebag Governor.  I don't like what he has to say, but I will support his right to say it.
  10. I enjoyed the show.  I got a fairly decent deal on a 686 4" so I was happy.  Talked to David for a few as well, so all in all, a good day.
  11. Glad to see you have a new member of the family. He's a great looking pup. I hope you all have many great years ahead.
  12. I'll be there Sunday and stop by to say hello David. It's been a while for me to be at any show as I seem to be out of the country when any off the good ones are going on. Hopefully I'll make it to Tulsa in April as well.
  13. At least it wasn't firearms related.
  14. I have a Benelli M2 tactical and have no complaints. I am not one who would ever purposely use an AR for home defense, but I know some do. 8 rnds of 12 ga and 17 in the pistol I hope covers me if truly needed. I am not stalking anyone in my house, they will have to come to me.
  15. All I can say is that Chip has done mine and many others on this site.  I would give him a call and see what he can do for you.     Not knocking John, but I haven't worked with him personally.  He is an authorized vendor so maybe give them both a call and see which one you like.
  16. They can, you can't. It had to be immediate family as well meaning father, mother, children. I don't think grandchildren count for that.
  17. Are you asking about what you think it could be mixed with or the breed in general?  Looks to me that it could be bread with a lab.  Legs are a lot longer than a typical Australian and the face certainly has lab traits.  Australian Shepards are very smart, always in the top 3 depending who you listen to.   Good family dogs, but they need to be given tasks or they will find something to do themselves.  They are mostly friendly dogs, but I have known some to be very temperamental.   He should be a great dog.
  18.   Sure, that's what they all say.
  19. I think I have a more pertinent question for Spots.   How in the hell did he even run across this blog, or post, or whatever it is in the first place?
  20. I just found out last Sunday that a guy who I used to work with died from complications from the flu.  He was 40 years old.  He did have diabetes which I think can make it worse, but still, it's just crazy.  It seems worse this year than any I can remember for deaths related to the flu.
  21. Mine will be an actual Sabre barrel, 24" with 1/12 twist. I have Rock River Varmint in 223 and have been very happy with it for the price, and I was kind of waiting for a Rock River 204 to come back in stock, but haven't seen one in a long time that was available.  I just happened to see this one when someone referenced in one of the other threads that RedX had some old Sabre uppers.  I think this one was actually made up of a Sabre Upper and barrel, then the other parts were added, but the Sabre barrels are supposed to be pretty good, so I figured I would give it a try.  I thought the price was decent.  This is a link to what I ordered. http://shop.redxarms.com/24-FLUTED-SABRE-DEFENCE-204-RUGER-UPPER-1-12-WITH-BCG-CH-SABRE204UA.htm  If you take into account the Sampson rail, BCG, and charging handle, the barrel and upper comes in at $350-400 which I think was pretty good. I will only know if it was a decent deal when I get it and shoot it.  I am getting another TGO lower and putting a Geissele HS Match trigger in it, so it should shoot if it is decent at all.   If I was going to order a barrel, I would probably get a 1/11 twist as I mostly shoot lower grain bullets.  I have a few thousand 32gr and 34gr bullets as well as some 26gr varmint grenades.  If I ever find a great deal on some 39gr Sierra Blitzkings I will order a couple thousand of those as well.  I am confident my 12 twist will work for all of those, but an 11 twist would be a bit better for the 39's.   A 9 twist is just a bit too much for the very light bullets which I also like.     Not sure what brands your scopes are, but I can appreciate wanting more magnification.  I do think that you can get by with less magnification in better quality scopes, but sometimes it's just nice to be able to dial it up.  Mirage makes a huge difference on the prairie dog field so most of the time you have to dial it back a bit anyway, but for target shooting, I also prefer more magnification.
  22. I have an STI Trojan that I really like. I would also like to get a Dan Wesson PM9. STI also makes a cheaper version that is also supposed to be a nice gun.
  23. This is the exact reason why people are racist.
  24. Yes, I currently have one other 204, a Savage LRPV.  I had a CZ 527 Varmint and Ruger Mark II Target, but sold both of them.  I have been looking for an AR version for a while so I can take it Prairie Doggin.  I was holding out trying not to have spend the money on a Les Baer, so when I saw the other thread where RedX bought some Sabre's from the bank, I bought the last upper they had.  We'll see how it shoots.
  25. Don't know if anyone else is interested, but Cameraland NY has the 4.5-14x50 Conquest with either the hunting or target turrets on clearance for $499.  They are normally $699 most other places from what I could find.  It's a good deal if anyone is looking for some better than average glass at a fairly reasonable price.  I needed something to go on my soon to be 204 Ruger AR.   Note that these are only available in the #20 Zplex reticle which was ok for me.   http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/zeiss.pl?page=521490
