  1. Nice, now I am thinking it is time for a trip up to Whittaker's.  It's my favorite gun store.
  2. Mine is on the way to my recipient.  As others, I got a few things that I think anyone could use.  I hope they agree!
  3. Are they always in the same general vicinity in your yard?  How big of yard are we talking?  Is it obvious which neighbor it is?   If it was me and the answers to those questions are yes, I would probably put up a trail camera in the area if possible and try to catch them in the act.  Then go have a talk with them.     It wouldn't surprise me if they think they are giving the dog "treats".  Some people are clueless when it comes to the danger of bones and dogs.
  4.   There are two set screws that let the housing which the case head indexes on to slide in and out.  Once you get it to the depth you want, you just tighten the set screws.  It's pretty simple and has worked well for me.   As for the Lee equipment, I don't have a problem per se with the classic cast press, but I really don't like most of their accessories.  I actually don't care for their dies because I don't like the fact that their seating dies don't give you the ability to lock in the seating depth.  I have some, but they aren't my first choice.  Too each is own, they will certainly work.  I also always add a lock ring too them so I just end up ordering Hornady, RCBS, or Redding dies to start with.   I will personally take a RockChucker any day over the Lee (and yes I have used both), but again to each his own.  They will all work for what most people want to do.  I actually use a Lyman Crusher II as my regular single stage, Forster CO-AX for precision things, and a LNL AP for progressive.  They all do their job quite well.
  5. I have the little crow trimmers for 300 BLK, 223, and 22-250.  I really like them and they are quick once you get them setup.
  6. The Forster is the best press made, period.  Now, unless you are looking to eek every bit of accuracy out of your longer rifle rounds, then the RCBS will do everything you need it to and then some.  You can certainly by once and be done with the Forster for a single stage, but as you mention, you will still have quite a few things to buy which will add up quickly.     Personally, I would go with the RCBS set and if you want to get into it more later, then consider the Forster.  You will understand the benefits of it better after you reload some and then you can decide if you want one.  It's never bad to have two presses.
  7.   Nope, it isn't.  I have used these rebates a couple of times.  You can try, but it is only on the price you pay (minus taxes of course).  The rebate is throught RCBS so it will be the same rules whether you buy from Midsouth or Amazon.   I should add, simply buy some RCBS dies to make the difference up to $300 and you then can get the $50.  You need dies anyway and RCBS are very good.  You can combine RCBS products to get up to the $300 mark.
  8. The rebate is based on how much the RCBS product is.  I think it has to be over $300 to get the $50.  Or is has been the last few years they have been doing it.  I need to recheck as if the $50 is now back on a lower amount there may be some things I need.   It's very few and far between that Amazon doesn't beat most other deals in my experience.
  9. The hand primers are great.  I have the RCBS universal hand primer.  The one that comes with the kit isn't the universal one which means you still need to use shellholders, but it will work just fine.  I never use my single stage press to do primers.
  10. If I was going to carry a 22, it would be a 22 magnum revolver.  Still easy for her to shoot, but a bit more power.  If she isn't use to guns and misfires, etc, a revolver is the only way to go in my opinion.
  11. Get it on amazon and save a little more.  Great kit and it is a better deal than buying separately.   http://www.amazon.com/RCBS-Chucker-Supreme-Master-Reloading/dp/B0078MWM2W
  12. I took this one from a stand, but I also do quite a bit of ground hunting.  It's fun just to pick a tree and sit.
  13. Took this small 9 pointer this afternoon. He never turned to me so I could see how wide he was. I knew he was at least an 8, so I took him. He has 1 small point by the left base as well. He isn't bad, but I would have let him go another year had I seen that he wasn't that wide. I think this one is going to Hunters for the Hungry.
  14. I do the same thing. I am not going to carry a paper copy when they can obviously see and confirm my license. If they want to be a jerk they can of course, but I don't expect any issues.
  15. I would look for an 870 Wingmaster from the 70s or 80s. No comparison to the 870s of today. I suppose it may depend on what you want to do with it.
  16.   Yeah, I would recommend you get the OAL length gauge as well.  I wasn't sure how you were determining the OAL or if you already had one.  If you don't have one, http://smile.amazon.com/Hornady-Overall-Length-Gauge-straight/dp/B000PD01SI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416586380&sr=8-1&keywords=hornady+oal+gauge, then this is the easiest way to get what the OAL for any given rifle should be.  Just buy the caliber specific blank case that goes with it and you can determine what the max OAL is for any rifle.     There are then different theories on how far to seat the bullets off of the lands.  I typically create some test rounds at -.020, -.040, and -.060 under whatever I measure.  Then I move on to testing different powder loads if I am looking for even more accuracy.   At the end of the day, .008 variance for general shooting is no issue whatsoever.  If you are wanting to get the most accuracy, then the above items will help.
  17.   No idea, but it couldn't hurt to ask.
  18. I was planning to get a new GoPro as I want to start filming some of my hunts.  I kept coming to the same comments over and over about GoPro's not being good for POV hunting video as the fisheye of the lens makes everything seem far away.   In my continual search, I found this camera called the Tactacam.  I am considering ordering one as the picture quality and field of view seems to be very good.  I like that it can be the stabilizer on my bow and there is also a shotgun/rifle mount that comes with it.   My question is..has anyone here had any first hand experience with one of these?   For the money, I can get one of these and a GoPro Hero 3+ on Black Friday for the same price as the GoPro Hero 4 Black.  I realize the FPS isn't as good, but I think the combo could make for a good hunting overview.   Curious on any one else's thoughts on it.     Thier youtube channel has some decent example videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/Tactacam
  19. Saw this comment on the Walmart 20% off guns deal.  If anyone is considering getting a gun at Walmart on Black Friday or that weekend, I would certainly recommend this.   Go to your Walmart TODAY and put the firearm you want on layaway with 10% down. Pay off your Walmart firearm in full on 28,29 or 30th Nov and the final sale will reflect the lower 20% discount Black Friday Price. This way you can reserve any firearm they have in stock and they will hold it for you. No need to fight the crowd on Black Friday.
  20. When you say they are off by several thousandths, how many are we talking?  I suspect there are a couple of things that could be going on.  One, Lee dies use that rubber o-ring under the nut when you tighten down the die.  Is it getting slightly loose some how. You may try adding a hornady locking ring to your die and trying that.   Second issue which I suspect could be more likely is a difference in the bullets themselves.  Are they seconds or anything like that?  Try setting the bullet depth using a comparitor set similar to this http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PD5VLA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.  It measures off of the ogive, therefore when you set your die, it is set based on where the die actually touches the bullet.     Measuring OAL to the tip of the bullet isn't as accurate due to small variances in the bullets themselves.  Using this method, your OAL can actually be different, but the fit of each bullet in the chamber will be the same, therefore improving accuracy because it keeps the ogive the same distance from the rifling in the chamber when seated.
  21. The only one I have any personal experience with is Foster Butt Taxidermy in Madison.   My friend who has been to Africa twice has had a few different things done by him and I can attest that it was excellent work.  He has had Kudu, Zebra Skins, Crock skull, and Cape Buffalo all done by him.     I have no idea on cost or timing, but when I am ready to get something mounted, he will be my first call to get a price.  I suspect he isn't the cheapest, but I am confident in his quality of work based on what I have scene in person.
  22. Fastest way going south on I/65 would certainly be taking the 840 exit west towards Dickson. Then take the first exit (Hwy 431) and when the exit curves around just keep going right which will put you right back on 840 east (no need to do a U-turn anywhere). Then just stay in the lane that the on ramp puts you in and it will put you back on I/65 north. Take the Peytonsville Rd exit and follow the signs/traffic to the ag center. Going home from the Ag Center if you live north is simply getting back on I/65 N. If you live south, it is a bit more complicated. To go south you can either take I/65 North up to Hwy 96, make a left ,and then get back on i/65 S. Or take Peytonsville Rd east from the Ag Center and follow it until it T's right near 840. Then take 840 back west towards 65 south. If you are coming South on i/65 it will only take you 5 min longer than normal to get there.
  23. Bersa, I think you have buyers and sellers markets confused.
  24. That's pretty interesting.  I would like to shoot some and see how they perform.
  25. If it is an option and the house is empty, it may be worth considering have someone come in an spray the ceilings.  Do all of the prep work yourself if you need to cover floors and windows with plastic and if you are really painting everything else, you don't have to worry about the walls.  As a matter of fact, some of the overspray may even help you a bit on the walls.  Painting ceilings is the worst part of the whole job.  If I was to consider spending a little money anywhere and saving my back, it would be by bringing someone in to do the ceilings.
