I actually had this in mind, lots of options. I am a bit of a jokester by nature, so some funny videos with some real life practical reviews and or products could be an interesting concept.
-
Absolutely. I even started a YouTube Channel named FatManTactical to have it just in case. I think it would be hilarious.
-
Heck, I think I am going to go get me a thigh rig and start my own video's. Maybe call it "Fat Man Tactical". It couldn't be any worse than that. Edit> As stupid as it sounded, I liked the sound of Fat Man Tactical. I did a quick search and low and behold, I now own fatmantactical.com. Hmm, what to do next. Sometimes dumb ideas turn out to be fun and profitable ideas. Or not :pleased: Maybe a parody tactical site?

I hate UPS sure-post. I had a similar experience with something a month or so ago. It showed UPS delivered to the USPS, and then the next day (Friday) delivered. Nothing. Then it shows up on Tuesday of the next week. What really surprised me was that it was an Amazon package. Granted, you can't select which way it comes on Amazon, but that was the first time I had ever had a package come sure-post from them. When I order from Midway, I will always pay the three extra dollars or whatever it is for UPS to deliver it.

And you think it would have been different here? I don't think so. All it takes is one person in the right position to make it difficult and I can guarantee the same thing could happen here. I would argue that the people up where this took place are as much, if not more, of outdoorsmen as anyone in TN.

Nice. I have the 6" 617, 6" 648, and 4" 686. They are all great guns. Enjoy it.

Cute. Wait, can a guy on a gun board use that term?

X2. Every time I do I walk out annoyed at their pricing and lack of service and then say never again. I apparently don't learn too fast.

I am not a beer guy so I can't speak to the quality, but there is also Cool Springs Brewery and the new Granite City by the Drury Inn.

I haven't seen much lately in northern Maury county, but I will probably head back out in the morning for a few hours just to get out. Even when I don't see anything, I still enjoy it.

Well, I am back in Franklin and for me, I think it is definitely worth the drive if you have a couple of things you want to look at in person (or even if you just want to kill a few hours on a rainy day). As has been mentioned here before, it isn't a flagship store, but it was bigger than what I expected based on my interpretation on what some called a smaller store. I think it is still about twice the size of an Academy store for comparison. I personally think the quality of Cabelas gear is just so much better than Bass Pro it really made me glad I took the drive up. What sealed the deal for me and why I really like Cabela's is not only the quality of their products, but also the customer service. I couldn't have asked for better customer service today. My primary reason for going up was to look at some new insulated hunting boots. I was looking at mostly higher end boots $200-$300 and tried on some different ones. It basically came down to one of two versions of the Meindl's that are made for Cabelas. The Perfect Hunter ($289) and the Ultralight Hunter ($209). Both are great boots and I went back and forth on them, initially deciding I liked the Perfect Hunters just a bit more. I thought one of them was recently on sale and when I asked, the associate looked them up and said in fact the Lightweights had been on sale two days ago for $157. Without me prompting him, and the reason I am writing all of this out as I think everyone can take advantage of the policy at some point, he said that they have a policy where in store they will honor a sale 7 days before it's advertised date and up to 7 days after the sale is over. That pretty well made up my mind as there wasn't $130 difference in these boots. Add on top of that they had $20 off of $150 and I had a $25 gift card, I was in my new boots for just over a hundred dollars. I couldn't beat that. I bought a few other items, one of them being a tripod shooting stick. Was marked on the rack on sale at $49. Got to the cashier and it rang up $89 (and that was actually a sale price). They honored the price without question. Even better, he hands me a rebate receipt for a $30 rebate on it. Must have been my lucky day. Anyway, even without these great deals today, I was very happy with taking the drive up.

I am on my way up there. I am sure it will be better than Bass Pro either way.
-
No worries on being snippy, I completely agree with you on the search part. I did a quick search, but missed that thread obviously.

I need some new boots and maybe a few other hunting related items. I really prefer Cablela's and will order boots from them either way, but I have heard mixed reaction on the store in Bowling Green. Is it worth the 1:20 minute drive up there or will I be disappointed in the selection as I know it is a smaller store.

Pass. Beretta's just don't do it for me.

I think the US public should threaten to never go see another Sony film if they don't release it. Ridiculous to give in to these people. We are losing the battle more every day.
-
We might be able to get a special dispensation for just this one time considering who it is for :taunt:
-
Sony should offer to show it for free to any major network willing to run it in primetime on regular tv. I would make sure everyone sees it. At this point, how much more could they be out.

In general, wildlife officers in most states have as much or even more authority that even the State Police. I am not sure about TN, but in IL, a Game Warden could basically do anything they wanted. I think in most cases, they don't go out of their way to do things like traffic stops, etc, but most are certainly authorized by law to.

Never understood the big deal with Cuban cigars. I have had quite a few and still prefer a Dominican tobacco. I don't smoke them much anymore, but I think it is simply about "forbidden Fruit" vs actually being any better. I am ok with this in general as long as we don't start adding them to the payroll like the rest of the world.

I would argue you can't get the same outdoorsiness without taking the shot. You haven't had that rush of adrenaline and nerves waiting to get and take that shot. Hunting is not just about about going to sit in a stand with a gun, or bow, or muzzleloader and waiting for some animal to walk by. Hunting for many of us is a year round love. It's about learning the areas you hunt, putting in the work to build food plots, or if you can't do that, scouting areas to give yourself the best chance of a successful hunt. The difference in a "successful" hunt means many different things to many different people. For some, it is shooting a doe for the meat, for others it is about trophy's, and in my view for real sportsman, it is about wildlife management. I think what you need to do is get with someone who can help you have a more broad 'hunting experience". I think everyone needs to do a good stalk hunt as for me that is true hunting, but I realize that it takes some land to do that. I realize it isn't easy to start on your own, especially if you don't have your own land to really get involved with. I can see where it is boring for someone who has never hunted and just goes out and sits in a stand with little to no prep, expects they will get a chance to shoot something, and then see nothing. Hunting takes time and effort. For me, hunting is about the work before the seasons, the chase, the adrenalin rush, and the enjoyment of being outdoors. The last thing on my mind while hunting is the cost. In fact, I would argue that for the hours spent, hunting for me is one of the cheapest hobbies I have per hour of enjoyment. What I get annoyed with is people who say everything is too expensive. I guess I am fortunate and not worried about my next meal, so maybe it doesn't affect me as much, but this as with many things is about priorities. A lot of the same people who complain about the cost of hunting are paying $100/month for a cell phone so they can play Candy Crush. If you are truly poor and are doing this to feed your family, I wouldn't even mind a special license available to those who can prove the need. One can certainly save money if they butcher their own deer. It isn't hard, but I don't think these are the people complaining. It is the ones who want to hunt to say they have hunted, but don't realize the commitment it takes to be successful. I will leave the cost of a gun out of it as I think even some of the poorest people out there have a gun. I don't know a single redneck who doesn't have some rifle. For less than $50/year they can shoot a crap load of deer compared to most states and if they process themselves (which I am sure all truly poor people do), there is a huge cost savings. The TWRA is one of the few State organizations where the money stays with them. While I may not agree with every decision they make, I do believe they are trying to do their best to conserve wildlife in a responsible manner. It takes money to do that. I consider my license fee a donation to help them do their job. For the enjoyment I get out of hunting, it's easy for me to say $135/yr for a Sportsman License is a deal.

Problem with cases getting stuck in sizing/deprime die
Hozzie replied to alingo2001's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If you just want to deprime before you clean, then get a depriming die. I wouldn't run dirty brass through any of my sizing dies. -
I was going to say $450. It's hard to find an decent 870 wingmaster these days for less than $400.

I will probably scrape enough together to buy a lifetime license before July. I am heavily considering selling my house in the next year where I am now and moving to the relative boonies where I can get 100 acres or so. If I do that, I don't need a license, but I suppose it never hurts to have the lifetime if I ever decide to hunt other areas.

For many of us, it isn't about the meat, it is about the enjoyment of hunting in general. I don't like deer meat other than if I get it made into summer sausage sticks. I usually donate one to Hunters for the Hungry and get sausage (and keep the loins) out of another. It certainly isn't saving money, but I just love being in the woods.
