  1. So are you getting a live feed from the camera so you know what the camera is seeing or does it just record to be watched later? - Yes, I get a live feed to my iPad which is connected to the controller. So what is the maximum control distance from the quad? - 1.2 miles is what they say, but with a good line of sight guys have went almost 2 miles. Do you get some kind of warning to keep you from going out of range? - You do, but it also has a return to home feature, so if you lose connectivity, it will come back on its own.
  2. Thanks everyone. I have to admit, it is very addictive once you get started.
  3. So, some of you saw my feeble attempt at getting some video with a cheap quadcopter I bought to play with. My flying wasn't pretty, but the video wasn't terrible (meaning quality of image) considering the cost. However, it did teach me one thing, and that is simply, Quad's are awesome. Fast forward a month and my lack of self control has me a new quad that is simply amazing. This is only my second attempt at making a video by editing video segments and adding audio, but I think it turned out pretty well. This quad has a camera attached that will shoot in 4k and take 12MB pictures. It is also night and day easier to fly. A couple of things I learned along the way for anyone interested. While cheap quad's are great for learning, the are very difficult to fly in a steady fashion. You will get better with them, but they will never allow you to get great video. You can get a cheap quad for $60 or less that will let you learn the basics, but you will quickly want to upgrade after you start playing with them. There is some pretty amazing technology out there now. I purchased the latest DJI Phantom 3 which is the quad you see them show a lot on TV. It's kind of like the AR/Glock of the Quad world. When you hear of an accident with a quad, no matter what one it was, they show a picture of a Phantom. If anyone is interested in learning a bit more, I would be glad to discuss it. First, a pic of the quad. A pic from about 400ft above my friends house. A pic of the Natchez Parkway Bridge And last, the video I did. Not terrible for my third flight and 2nd video ever made. It was all filmed this morning. https://youtu.be/ACswd_D1ofc
  4. I can't believe the guy got back up.  That was a hell of a hit to the head.  I am sure it was just adrenaline, but he couldn't have felt good later.  Neither one was in the right, but I can understand the response of the motorcycle rider.
  5. If they were going for the third grade look, they could have done it themselves. Heck it only took me 1 minute to come up with my third grade version.
  6. On it's face, a reasonable person would say most of those seem reasonable except for the extortion of withholding federal funds.  I think it's always good to discuss things, but unfortunately the one's putting these together have a specific agenda already in place and working before any of this is done.     If I thought for a second we could have an open and reasoned discussion with all of these groups, no problem.  Problem is we can't and it won't happen.  Good thing a Federalization of the Police force can't and won't happen because of the constitution.  That doesn't mean they won't try.
  7. Don't use Bermuda unless you already have it. It will eventually take over, but in the spring and fall you will have a big Brown patch where the Bermuda goes dormant months before bluegrass. I would simply put in whatever you have now and water it as needed until it gets established. Water in the early mornings and it will be fine. Once Bermuda gets started , it's almost impossible to get rid of.
  8. As said above, twin peaks isn't a biker bar. The one in Franklin has some very nice scenery.
  9. Thanks, I'll check it out. I will be down in Columbia today.
  10. What dealer? I would like to check out the 300 blk.
  11. You will need to get rid of all of the plastic mulch. This will just act as a drain under the soil and you grass will dry out and die quickly. I would remove all of it, bring in a. Truckload of top soil to level and then plant grass if you want that. I would not personally put rock. It's a bigger pain than mulch.
  12. First, thanks for putting it out of it's misery.  Too many people would have just let it suffer.   I wish I knew from a pure legal perspective.  I am guessing if they wanted to site you they could (probably more of a TWRA issue though), but as long as it was done in a responsible manner, I don't think most would.   I have done it before and would do it again if I needed to.
  13. Lots of new guys asking a lot of very specific questions today. Makes one go hmmm. There are many threads discussing the codes. May want to start with a search.
  14. Very cool.  I couldn't take it anymore after seeing all of your great work.  I have sent you a PM about getting a knife made.
  15. The guy is a tool, but I will wait to crucify him.  Seems each time something has happened, he has basically been the innocent (relative term) one.
  16. I would personally say in the 70-75gr range would be best suited, but I suppose it depend on what you are looking for.  I think 40's would be way too low.  I think 60's for a 1/9, and 80's for a 1/7.     I suspect you are looking for the heaviest bullet with the most accuracy for your hog hunt?     Edit: And as soon as I post, someone with direct experience opposite what I would have went with :pleased: .  The hard part is each gun seems to act so different.  Wish I had some heavier bullets for you to try out beforehand..
  17. I second a flaming pig.
  18. Get well soon. I spend a lot of time out of country as well and have thought about this possibility. Glad it worked out ok.
  19.   OS, he is referring to the new American Ranch Rifle, not the Mini 14 Ranch Rifle.  When I first started looking at them for myself, it confused me as well.   If he was talking about a Mini 14 at 200 yards, I would say only if you are ok with 5 MOA accuracy  :pleased:
  20. I have been eyeing the one in 300 BO myself for a subsonic host. I think early ones had some issues, but I haven't read much bad about them lately.
  21.   They make a small missile launcher to add to them, I think they're specifically made for cats    J/K.   His house is very nice.  He has a nice piece of land as well where we can shoot and do some hunting.
  22. Sorry about that.  How about now?   Warning, you are about to see some terrible piloting skills  :puke:
  23. So I have been intrigued by qaudcopter's for a little while now and decided last week that I was going to get one just to play with and have some fun.  I have no experience with flying RC anything so my sensibility kicked in and after some research, I decided to order a fairly cheap quad to learn and play with.  My usual route is to go big or go home, but as it turns out, I am pretty impressed with this thing even though the whole setup was pretty cheap.  I will go into total cost in a bit.   After some research I decided that I wanted something that was a decent size that I knew could eventually carry a small camera.  There are a lot of beginner quad's out there for dirt cheap, $25-$35, but they were all smaller than what I was wanting.  I wanted something that I could fly outside, even in a light wind.  I spent a little more ($66) and bought a WL Toys V262.  It is about 2' in diameter and comes with a removable foam casing that can be removed once you learn how to fly it better.  As you will see in my video, mine still has it on (and will for a while longer).   While youtubing reviews, etc, I noticed a lot of people do some modifications to help it perform better and help the motors last longer.  I spend about another $30 on some bearings, two extra batteries, and 4 extra motors for later use.  These motors will last about 30 flights so having some spares was highly recommended.   For less than $100, I had everything I needed to start having some fun and knew I had the things I needed for some basic maintenance.   While waiting for the quad to arrive and in watching more videos, I came across many people using this small camera called the Mobius.  It is a 1080P camera that will record in 30FPS and 60fps at 720P.  The great part about it, it only cost $70.  I had expected to eventually get a GoPro to use with this (I had one and sent it back, but for this I think it is perfect), but decided that since I don't know how to fly, it was probably best to go with a cheaper option (for when I crash and burn) and this Mobius camera seemed to get great reviews.     So 3 days later, I have everything and decide to start playing.  I was amazed at just how well this little quad performed.  Even more impressive is the camera.  Keep in mind it is simply velcroed to the top of the quad in this video.  There is some vibration, but not as bad as I would have expected.  The video below is at my friends new house he is building.  As you will see, we both stink at flying, but I think for $180 total (I already had the sd card), this is pretty impressive.  I had it up to about 200-250ft at one point in my inaugural flight only to get it stuck in a tree (250 yards from where I was) from too much wind and not being able to fly it back to me, but in this video, we keep it a lot lower and it goes pretty good.      I know there have been a few discussion on here about qauds/drones and thought this may be of interest to some others.  It is really fun.  Now to just get more flight time before I spend the money on a much better quad.   This is what I bought. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/9269803716/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GT2B4R6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0072AEHIC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NFEY7Y8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNRdTH-wu8U
  24. I did a quick search and didn't see this anywhere, but thought it was pretty cool.  I may even have to think about getting a 45LC to try this.  For those that have one, it seems like a great way to practice without having to use up a bunch of powder.   For those that are tired of the "easy" Carpenter Bee hunting with Walnut Media, this is for you.  Let's see who is really a shooter  :pleased: .   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h27qVNUvaNk

  25. I haven't sold to anyone getting a VA loan, but in general, when the government is involved, it has a much higher probability of going sideways.  I suppose it depends on how much more the offer is and if you think it is worth it.  In my experience (family has a lot of real estate investments), dealing with investment bankers is much easier.  That doesn't guarantee anything either, but I think since it isn't a specific person buying it, unless there is a major issue, you probably won't have any lengthy delays.   The VA loan could go perfect.  I would guess it could take 8 weeks longer to close though.
