Const. Carry Bill brought up today
Hozzie replied to CommsNBombs's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Apples and Oranges. Driving is not a constitutional right. Hypothetically, I am not sure it matters. Look at how many bad drivers there are. Good driving comes from practice, not passing a test. -
Const. Carry Bill brought up today
Hozzie replied to CommsNBombs's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
And you think the "training" they go through to be allowed to purchase a permit is different than none? These permit classes do nothing to make anyone safer. Anyone legally allowed should be able to carry a gun if they choose to. They can already do it in their cars and the bloodshed hasn't started yet. -
Columbia TN gun show this weekend...
Hozzie replied to leafinthewind's topic in Events and Gatherings
I went with a buddy who lives in Columbia. Show was the same as it always is. Small and not worth the money, but as we always say, it only takes one gun to make the show. This time, that one gun wasn't there :). -
Just goes to show how little these awards mean. There are always a couple of complete turds nominated for something.

Who has a RCBS or Redding turret press?
Hozzie replied to jeff43's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
For me, the only advantage of a turret press is changing dies more quickly. With that said, I would personally recommend getting a Forster CO-AX. You can change dies just as quickly and you will have the best press made. Once you set your dies, which you have to do on either press, you simply slide them in and out as needed. I would say another reason the co-ax is better is that you don't need extra turrets. Simply keep your dies in their box once set and you can go right back to using them the next time. The only negative could be that I wouldn't use a powder measure on it, but I wouldn't do that anyway. I think most people do one function to all brass and then go on to the next, but I could be wrong. I don't see myself leaving one piece of brass in and turning a turret 3 or 4 times for each piece, but I suppose some might. Just another perspective. -
Just updated so far to winning tickets in CA, FL, and TN.

Some of you have probably seen this, but it is something on the lighter side to get your day started. This is pretty funny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0h9WvHaZW0

Agreed. I was focused on the shorter OAL, but being jammed into the lands also creates more pressure. It also leads to quicker throat erosion.
-
Edit: Apparently 1 ticket matched in California, but other states still have yet to report if any other tickets have matched. The hope is still alive :) I don't even know what my numbers are, I am out of the country and my parents bought my tickets. I am sure I have a winning ticket waiting for me at home.
-
Ahh, didn't ever pay attention to that I guess. Thanks for the correction.

You lock it yourself. Click the Topic Moderation link at the top by the first post and lock it.

Yes, shorter OAL using the same bullet creates more pressure assuming the same powder charge.

No, you can only claim it in the year he filed. He will not get to deduct any of the interest. I am not a tax advisor so he may want to call one, but I am pretty sure he can't, especially retroactively.

My buddy has taken all of his African game with a CZ as Chris mentions, but his is in 416 Rigby. He also takes a Winchester Model 70 in 375 H&H as a backup gun. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the CZ for pure value. I did watch a recent show on Outdoor channel where the guys was using a Winchester Lever action in 45-70 Turnbull if I remember correctly. I think a good lever action may also be a viable option for dangerous game. You can get follow up shots off very quick. There has been a Dakota in 416 Rigby on GOC for a while now. I was considering it to have as a dangerous game rifle in case I ever do go to Africa. Not cheap, but beautiful rifle.

No, I really thought it was that bad.

I personally thought it was terrible and ridiculous. Top 10 worst movie of all time for me.

I think it is closer to 40%. But most smart people will take the lump sum, which is usually just a bit above half. I am guessing a rough estimate of after tax winnings at $500 million.

Recoil Management, especially for those of us that are aging.
Hozzie replied to Pete123's topic in General Chat
I am not that old, but I have never liked recoil. I get headaches pretty easily from it. One of the best, under talked about benefits of a suppressor is the amount of recoil it takes out. Shooting my TRG 308 suppressed is like shooting a 223. I don't need anything over a 30 cal so I will use my suppressor every chance I get. The only significant recoil gun I have is a 300 WSM, but I only bought it to use for hunting larger game (Elk/Moose/Bear) and you don't even feel those shots when you take them. -
You guys want to know what a gun show should look like?
Hozzie replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
I am sure there are some but never really paid attention. One of our group has his ffl so it never has been an issue for us. I would have something shipped if needed. That isn't a big deal. For my group, we aren't talking about buying a run of the mill glock. It is more about what I would consider to be collectible and classic guns you just don't find everywhere. When you find it, you have it shipped back to an FFL. I am sure there are some trades that happen that are outside of the law, but I think most are pretty careful about it. I think you would be naive to think it can't or doesn't happen. -

Actually, there is not a lot of beef jerky, etc. as to cost, we have 4 guys that drive out. We leave Thursday and go part way. Get up Friday and go the rest. We get a table so you can get vendor tags and enter on Friday. We then leave Saturday late afternoon and come part way back and get home on Sunday. With 4 guys BSing about guns the whole way, it isn't too bad. You will find some deals, but more than that you will find some of the rarest and hard to find guns you can't find anywhere else, and probably multiples of each. -

Wanenmacher's is one everyone should go to. We try to go to one of them each year, usually the fall one. -

Louisville is next weekend. It is usually a good show. Not a great day trip, but if you don't mind staying a night, you can make two days out of it pretty easy. -
ARC is a great organization. I am an ARC Angel. You are right, it does seem that TN has way too many cases they have to take care of.

As long as I wear my glasses. :). Just got my first pair at 40.....

Thanks everyone. Dave, I am planning to attend matches in Chattanooga, Paducah, Bristol, and up near Owensboro. If all goes well, I want to try and start an ARA match at Strategic Edge. I have talked to Tony about it briefly, but I want to attend some matches first and get a feel for how things go. It would be nice to have a "home" range for matches.
