41P Update - November 2015

While it will be a bigger nuisance afterwards, it won't be impossible. When you can afford it, it is well worth it. -
41P Update - November 2015
Hozzie replied to midtennchip's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I just sent in two form 4's yesterday to beat the deadline. I have a feeling the waits are going to skyrocket back to 10-11 months with everyone trying to beat the date. -
Not a good move, but it is on all of us to make sure a weapon is unloaded when handling. I would be upset as well, but I don't trust anyone who hands me a gun that I haven't seen cleared. If they took the gun without checking it, they are just as much at fault.

I am very sorry to hear this. Condolences to you and your family.

I don't get impressed by much these days, but that is impressive. I am sure it will be put to good use. Congrats.

She will be in my thoughts. I wish her and you the best.

Chip is a good guy. He did my trust and many others on here as well. -
Sounds good.

Transfer Supressor from Deceased Uncle

You may want to give Chip Cain or John Wells a call and be sure before paying it. Can't hurt. -
E-file form1 for SBR timeline.

My turn for a 3 month wait. E-filed my form 1 for my 9mm SBR today. -
Never thought of it either. I can't think of any I have knowingly wounded and not found and killed. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have considered it in my limit, but I will now as I believe in conservation. One more dove isn't going to make or break any of us.

I am not sure to be honest on running full spectrum velocities. If you can give me exact (averages) Cartridge OAL, Case OAL, bullet length (may be different than what is default), and H20 capacity, I can easily run 2 or 3 different loads of 4064 and Varget for comparison. I can also try some other powders. Not pushing, but I suspect you are like me in that you don't want to spend $150 on QL, but let me tell you, it is some of the best money spent of anything I have bought for reloading.

Rob, I know you know what you are doing, but it looks like you are actually over pressure even if it isn't showing it in the case. Just want to provide the info so you have it. I used the case length you gave at 3.0 COAL with 44.5g of 4064. Pressure is above 64,000psi. You might have a bit more case capacity than shown, but even then it doesn't go down much. Shorter COAL really pushes the pressure. At 2.850 it went above 70,000 PSI. You can click to get a larger image. I will say, when I measure everything exact in my loads and put it in here, I am usually well within 60fps and more commonly 40fps, so I trust this. I am paranoid about pressure is the only reason I am questioning some of the numbers. Don't want to see anyone get hurt.
-
Rob, I ran some numbers in QuickLoad and I don't think you will get to 2800 with Varget or 4064. Can you provide some additional detail. what is the Case length and can you get me the average number of grains of H20 each case holds. This is really the only way to get exact numbers. I am using a COAL of 2.840, but if you plan to load shorter than that, let me know. You can see by the graphic below that this load with Varget is already above case capacity, but this is based on knowing nothing exact at this point.

Agree. I was thinking he was referring to the whole deck for that question, not just the treads. If it is just the treads on the stairs, the pre-made ones at lowes or HD are nicer than two 5/4 boards. I used them on my deck.
-
Just sand it if it isn't a lot. I would put in all new floor boards before even considering stripping it. A good cleaner and cleaning will be as important. Olympic deck cleaner is my choice. Behr cleaner stinks. Then go for Olympic Elite/Maximum solid color stain. Expensive, but is very good stain. Almost as thick as paint.

how much would you pay for surgery for your dog?
Hozzie replied to Bassoneer's topic in General Chat
Very sorry to hear that. You did the right thing. You will see him again on the other side. -
A Prius requires gas, this does not. Apples and oranges really. I never understood why people care so much about what other people want to spend their own money on. It comes across as jealousy even if it isn't intended. If you don't want one, don't buy one.

What's a good chronograph for the money?
Hozzie replied to jeff43's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
This if you can afford it. It's so much nicer to not have to take a tripod and worry bout walking in front of the firing line. Only downside is it isn't good for pistols. I have a prochrono I keep around for that. -
Welcome to the nut house :)

I just ordered the hybrid pistol lower as I got notice it was back in stock. What upper length did you guys that have them go with? I am thinking the 10.5" would be about perfect for an SBR. I will get my form 1 e-filed as soon as I get my lower in hand.

I have two pots, about 5 molds for my most common calibers, and 200 lbs of good lead sitting and waiting for the day I need it. I figured it was cheaper to buy a couple of years ago vs 15 years down the road when bullets may be harder to come by. If I am honest, I hope I never have to cast, but I like to be prepared.
