  1. Looks very nice. Always feels good to do something yourself and see the results, especially when they look this nice and save a lot of money. Good job!
  2. We will host our monthly ARA Match this Saturday starting at 9AM. Arrive by no later than 8:30 to draw a bench. We will shoot 5 targets. Cost for the match is $30. For more information on ARA, please check out the website @ http://www.americanrimfire.com If you have any questions, please let me know, Thanks, Jamie
  3. Thinking about it more, I would bet that you would be happier for the short term to look in the Sylvan Park area. Not sure the pricing now, but it would be a great place to be if you work on West End. Maybe buy a fixer upper and sell in a few years when you are tired of being in more towards the city. It would certainly be a more enjoyable daily commute.
  4. The bigger question is what is your budget. Start there, not the other way around. You will quickly narrow down areas that are truly achievable or not. Also make a list of 'must have's' and don't deviate from them or you will regret it. Don't confuse must have with would like to have. There are some basic things I will always require for any house. Time changes must have's, but go with what you must have now. You will certainly sell and buy again before it is all over. West End is unfortunately the absolute worst place to have to get to and from on any day, so watch commute times from any location, not just distance.
  5. Mine (JD) is a rubber flap that bolts to the back of the deck. Keep in mind, some types of grass don't stripe as well as others. You also need to cut it higher to make it work best. I have Bermuda so it doesn't really do a lot, but if you have nice fescue cut at 4", it should look good.
  6. That's a bait and switch if there ever was one. Ha.
  7. Lease the hay fields to someone for the hay (and you make some money) and use as much space around your house as needed for your garden and critters. You can rent the second home, but I would not grant any hunting or farming access. Just find a nice single person or married couple who would want to rent it. Families are a pain to rent to and renting to couple's who aren't married can lead to not getting paid even faster. It should be pretty easy to find someone who would lease for the hay. Make sure to find out what market value is for that around you so you don't get taken advantage of. Ask at the local co-op, I bet someone there could tell you.
  8. It's certainly bad PR, but in the long run, this isn't going to cost UA anything outside of some settlement with the guy. People will still fly UA just like they do today because 95% of all people out there have very short memories, and more importantly the bottom line always wins out. If UA is the cheapest flight, people will take it, period. I guarantee that there are some people that are going to make a lot of money off of the their market drop. It may take little bit, but it will also be back. The interesting thing to watch is does the airline lobby have enough power to keep Congress from now enacting some stringent overbooking rules. I can see that happening.
  9. Good on you. Hopefully someone that actually NEEDS them gets them. Always someone out there looking for anything free.
  10. I would go Smith in either 460 or 500. They both will do what you need for anything in North America. Some like the 460 as you can also shoot a few other calibers, but I would stick to just the 460 personally. 460 is cheaper to reload by just a bit. Personally, I find the 44 to be perfect for anything around here. Lots of options with 44's. Of your choices, I would sell the BFR and go Smith 460. I am just not a fan of the looks of a BFR and well, the Smith is a Smith
  11. Great, thanks.
  12. Blue Wonder gun cleaner will remove the rust without harming the blueing.
  13. Anyone know of a good place to get topsoil (delivered) around Franklin. I am looking for good topsoil, not just fill dirt. I have googled it, but you never know what your going to get. Figured someone here may have got some before and could recommend (or not recommend) someone. Thanks.
  14. I really like it so far. I need to get a new seat made for my wide butt, but I really like the way it handles.
  15. If you have good dealers around you, they will bring a mower to you to demo. I did it with Deere and Exmark. You won't go wrong with either. Like I said, the difference for me was a less tight deck which allows me to mow damp grass without clogging. Exmarks are great, but they prefer dry grass. They are also a bit more expensive than the deere for the same size. Or at least I was able to make a better deal with Deere. Absolutely try both if you can.
  16. Looks like a nice day tomorrow. If you are a rimfire guy or girl, you owe it to yourself to come out and check it out. On a side note, tomorrow is also our annual Swap Meet at the range, so there will be some browsing to do as well.
  17. I just bought a Yamaha FJR, but in the process I looked at the BMW GS bikes. I am almost 6'2" and couldn't hardly get my leg over them. It was crazy to me how tall they were. I don't know how some shorter guys ride bikes like that. I can sympathize with your issue.
  18. I grew up mowing and just like to do it. I like machines of all sorts and mowing is relaxing to me. You are looking at probably $250-400 per mow to do 5-6 acres depending where you are. That pays back quicker than most realize. If you have 1/4 acre, ok, but at that point you might as well buy a condo with no lawn.
  19. Well, after two months, some very good news. I took Ellie back to the breeder with no expectations, but low and behold they went above and beyond and did the needed surgery to fix Ellie's heart murmur. I just brought her home for the second and last time. She cleared 3 different vet's with no sign of the murmur. She should lead a long, normal life with no side effects. It's pretty remarkable what they can do these days. Here she was at 8 weeks. And today at just over 4 months.
  20. Heavier Frames, heavier decks, dual hydro motors which are heavier, and commercial grade engines. They are just better in every aspect. Go drive a John Deere residential and then drive a commercial. You will immediately know the difference.
  21. Ferris are good as long as you have a dealer close (that really goes for any of them). That's one good thing with JD, they are everywhere.
  22. That's quite a bit. I can tell you without a doubt that i would want a commercial for that much. I have a John Deere z950m that I think is perfect. Got it for $9900 out the door. Well worth the extra 4K. Better built and you can mow much faster. If you aren't limited to 5k, I highly recommend going for the commercial series. John Deere or Exmark for me. JD will mow better if you ever mow damp or wet grass. The Exmarks are too tightly baffled for wet grass.
  23. For a comparable mower, I would go bad boy. Heavier overall in that class of mower. Yes, when you get into the next price range there is a difference, but at under 5k I believe the bad boy has more going for it. I would go talk to an independent dealer. The Hustler dealer here (Franklin) also sells bad boy. When my dad as looking he said go with bad boy for the money. Ymmv.
  24. Strategic Edge will host its first ARA (American Rimfire Association) match of the season starting at 9AM on Saturday. Bench positions must be drawn by 8:30. For those of you not familiar with ARA, it is a precision rimfire shooting competition. We will shoot 5 ARA Targets for total score. So, just what is ARA and how is the game played? ARA is based on a 25 bull target shot at 50 yards with 1 shot per bull. It is scored for a possible total of 2500 points. You have 20 minutes to shoot the entire card and you can shoot as many sighter’s as you would like. What equipment can you use? These will be unlimited class matches which basically means, bring whatever you want to shoot so long as it is a 22lr. I promise you if you like shooting 22’s for small groups, you will like this game and it will make you a better shooter. If you think you have a “tack driver”, bring it and as we say “show up and shoot”. This game is a ton of fun, but it isn’t easy. Cost for the first match is $30. Due to ARA Rules, there is no winning payout. For more information on ARA, please check out the website @ http://www.americanrimfire.com If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. There are very few, if any, real Rimfire BR matches in Middle TN, so we hope this may appeal to many of you. We want to make our matches some of the best attended in the Southeast. It starts with getting the local shooters introduced to the sport so if you have any questions at all, please let me know. Thanks, Jamie
  25. That Rocket III is a hoss.
