  1. So I have been on the search for a welding class where I can go learn the "right" way to weld. I can "farm" weld with a Mig and Stick, but I wouldn't call it pretty. I also have a Tig that I would like to start to learn to use correctly. My projects have seemed to work up to this point, but I would really like to learn some proper technique. My problem is that I can't seem to find any classes that used to exist where someone could go a couple of nights a week for 12 weeks or something and get some basic knowledge and experience. Everything I find is a technical college or CC that offers classes to someone wanting to make Welding their career and requires going 5 days a week in the middle of the day. Does anyone happen to know of anywhere that does the classes like they used to around Nashville. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong places. I have all of the equipment and could just youtube and do things with trial and error, but for me it isn't the same as some real instruction. Thanks in advance for any insight. I thought someone here may know of somewhere that does something like this.
  2. Agree. I hate it when one accident like this turns into "No one should ever do this again and it should be illegal" talk. We did a lot of dumb things when I was kid growing up in Illinois where at that time we did get plenty of snow. 99.9% of the time, nothing happens. That .1% or less is unfortunate, but bad things happen every day. That's part of life.
  3. If I had my options if I was building I would choose (in order). GeoThermal Dual Fuel (NG) New Heat Pump (18-20 SEER) NG There is something mental about feeling warm air come out, but I also have a heat pump and it has done fine. The biggest thing now is to get one of the heat pump units that has a high SEER rating. I put a 20 SEER in my old house when I had to replace it and it was very efficient. My house now is small (1500sf), but newish (2016) and it has two heat pumps. I give the people that buitd it some credit, even though it is small, they put in two units, one for downstairs and one for upstairs. It makes a world of difference in even heating and cooling.
  4. I was without power for about 7 hours on Monday evening. I have a fireplace and was able to keep the main room around 60, but wouldn't want to have to do that too often. I live far enough out that if something really bad happened, I expect I would be one of the last to get service back. I have been talking about buying a whole house generator for a few years. That was enough to push me over the edge. It won't help this time, but in a few weeks that concern will be eased. They aren't cheap, but the peace of mind will be worth it. As a side note, I am becoming a big wimp as I get older.
  5. There is one scheduled for the end of the month in Columbia at the Armory. Not sure I will go as I have bought enough this last month to last me a year, but sometimes you can't pass up some rare guns.
  6. I was just thinking of this thread as I just bought an air pistol from a company in the Netherlands. I ordered Sunday night, it shipped Monday and it will be here today (Wednesday) via UPS. This includes having to clear customs. The USPS can't even do that from within the US most of the time. I paid $36 dollars for shipping which is less than I have paid USPS for shipping something Priority Mail and still not having it show up on time. Things eventually get there with USPS but it seems more than not that there is an extra day or two of some screw up.
  7. So I am head deep into 22's and every detail around them for precision and accuracy purposes so take my view with that in mind. I would ask what do you want to do with it? In general, the 10/22 platform is inherently less capable of accuracy than a comparable bolt gun. That doesn't mean they can't be accurate but when it comes down to the little details, those details do make a difference if the utmost accuracy is desired. If you just want a really nice high end 10/22 they are very nice rifles. I would say them and Kidd are interchangeable. If you just want a high end, very accurate 22 without going full blown custom, I would look at something like a Bergara B14-R. They are more used for NRL and PRS types of competitions but are also excellent all around rifles. What's nice about them is they use standard Remington 700 SA stocks so the options are basically limitless. You can use a traditional type of stock or go with a chassis of some sort. I guess I say all of this to say if you would be buying it for the idea that they are supposed to be very accurate, I would say be fully informed. They are, but they will always give up a little vs a bolt gun. Of course any one example of either can potentially outdue the other on a case by case basis. If you like the platform and that is the direction you want to go you will be hard pressed to find a better 10/22 variant outside of a custom 10/22 based BR gun.
  8. Welcome. Where are you from in IL?
  9. If anyone is really interested in knowing, Zanders is the national Importer for all Eley ammo. All merchants except Killoughs purchase their ammo through Zanders. Zanders recently sold out of all ammo they had. One vendor bought approx 300 cases of Tenex. Killoughs is the only vendor that also get's their own lots and inventory of Eley as they run the test center so those lots are not available to anyone else. They also cater to the competition rimfire community so they are a bit of an exception to the other vendors. If you check inventories on their website it will say St.Louis/Missouri Warehouse or Texas Warehouse. St. Louis means it is a Zanders lot. Texas means it is a Killough's lot.
  10. This is why I have a strict rental policy which all of my friends know and abide by. The tool or whatever I loan you has to come back in the exact same condition that it left. That means no taped cords from where you cut through it, no damage, replaced blades if they are worn, etc. If it doesn't you simply replace it with new regardless of how old it is. Cuts down on my tool loaning quite a bit.
  11. After a million + miles I know the feeling. Maybe there is a bright side to COVID for me since I can't go to Europe.
  12. My issue with USPS isn't as much about delays although that is annoying and I think there are reasons for it (not good ones, but reasons). It's more about the poor attitude and complete lack want to do one's job by the clerks I seem to interact with. On top of that they don't even know their own rules most of the time. I am not saying all are this way as there is may be 1 in 20 that actually act like they want to work there and be helpful, but most I just want to grab and shake the holy living hell out of.
  13. Thanks Greg, if I get some ammo loaded before it gets here I will try that.
  14. Well, it's back together with no left over parts. I guess that is a good start Just waiting on the sight elevator that was missing to show up. Now to load up some ammo and give it a test.
  15. Could be. All I can tell you is what they told me when I stopped in Thursday.
  16. If you need ammo and you are willing to pay decent money for it, go to Champions Choice and buy some Tenex. I was just there yesterday picking up some Ceramic Coat and he said all they have is Tenex. $18.xx per box/50 I think. That is the normal price there. It's high quality ammo at least (most of the time) for what you are paying.
  17. My buddy uses 8.0 grains Accurate #5 for his 158 LSWC loads.
  18. Not a gun, but just received these guys this morning. Will be going on two USAF (Not USMC) Rem 40XB 22's. If you don't have a classic 22 and scope to go with it you are missing out.
  19. I would walk over to my neighbors and say "Hey, you good?" Yep, ok? See ya, let me know if you need anything. What are you expecting to have to discuss? Barricading the neighborhood? What did you do before cell phones and the internet? You drove over to see someone if it was farther than just walking. Or get handheld radio's/cb's? I am with Erik on this. If all communications are down, I suspect that is the least of your worries.
  20. Good for them. If someone is dumb enough to pay that, so be it. There is such thing as a stupid tax and we are seeing it at work every day. That guy may take those 40 cent primers (*although it isn't over yet) and load some rounds and sell them for $2 a round. People are doing and buying all kinds of crazy things right now. I don't have an issue if people are setting their own price as a buyer on sites like GB.
  21. I don't remember my load as it has been a while, but I almost exclusively use AA#5 for 357 with LSWC. I have a buddy that just loaded a bunch. Let me see what he used. He has loaded more 357 than I have ever thought about.
  22. @Erik88I have been here longer than you so I am well aware of how things work. Facts are a lot like statistics now. One can make them fit about any narrative they want. I can decide for myself what “facts” to believe or not. Facts nowadays aren’t “the sun is hot”. We are at a crossroads in our country about what is free speech and transparency. Before someone says this is a private site, I understand that. It would seem that if we want to limit discussion on a gun forum to a narrative only a few decide are worthy of discussion we have already lost. Prove them wrong. You can say they won’t listen. You can’t change that. Simply shutting down their opinion isn’t the right way to go about it in my opinion. My opinion doesn’t really matter I suppose but I don’t think I am being out of line.
  23. Is this a forum or a news outlet? These forums are about opinions. Sure, great if there is some additional backup, but that has never been a requirement nor should it be. People can decide for themselves what is pertinent. We don’t need others telling us what we should believe are facts or not.
  24. I actually hate to start this topic and it may be deleted, but has TGO now become just like Twitter? We shut down a discussion because we think there aren't any "facts" for discussion. Who's facts? We may think that there are conspiracy theorists amongst us and that some things are blown out of proportion, but does that mean we can't discuss them. We went from no politics to only 2A politics and now it's not even that if somehow one of the admins doesn't think it meets the "Facts" they would like to see. I agree that Facebook should be flushed down the drain, but jeez, let people have a discussion. We are all adults and can figure our what we agree with or not. I can certainly determine what I think is a fact or not. I agree we shouldn't let things get personal, but this over the top moderation is too much. If we are going to go down this path, can we all point out facts we don't agree with and request the shut down of a thread. Frustrating.... I want to add, one the best ways to combat non-factual information is with factual information. We don't seem to have an issue with people with two different points of view expressing them. Let someone challenge the topics if needed, but closing them is not the right answer if it hasn't become personal. I am not talking about politics in general. If it meets your requirement of 2A related, let them discuss it.
  25. I am in North Marshall and am waiting for them to arrive. Surprised they aren't here yet (or at least I haven't seen them).
