I haven't had that issue, but I would certainly leave negative feedback for someone that didn't show up. That is about the only recourse we have. If they post without a price listed, they are probably new to TGO so a good indication to not get your hopes up too much. It is unfortunately a part of the current situation. On the other side, I have dealt with some new guys that have been great. I feel it is important we don't lump them all in to one group, but certainly we need to hold all to our standards (at least when selling ).

Seems to be the outcome was decided by the shooter. So be it. Until people in the communities decide they want different, this is what they are going to get. The fix has to come from within. That takes too much responsibility and commitment.

There are enough dogs in this world. The fact that you are looking at this as a simple business should be enough to tell you what you need to know. Please don’t.

I would take that money and buy an air gun.

My fault. I read this sentence "while she clearly hasn't changed her tune on guns in the broad sense, she was able to get through the training by focusing on the fact that, by learning how to properly handle a gun, she would be in the best possible position if she were ever absolutely forced to use one." I glanced over the big quote below that thinking it was some type of advertising. Yes, that is laughable. I still will watch her with a smile on my face
-
To be fair, she didn't say anything close to that. She simply said were she ever forced to use one, she would be in the best possible position meaning she had training. I have no doubt she's not on our side, but I'll watch her train with a smile on my face.

If you can live with black, the absolute best value Weber is the SE-335. Here is a good site that reviews and explains why. https://www.bbqguys.com/weber-grills/genesis-ii-se-335-special-edition-propane-gas-grill-black-61016201-2019 I was going to get this but really didn’t want the side burner. I was also looking for all stainless originally. If this was made in a stainless top I probably still would have bought it. Any major retailer including Ace, etc can order it.

I went through a similar process last fall. I also had a Weber Genesis Gold C that I finally decided it was time to retire after 20 years. It actually still cooked fine, but it was looking a bit rough. I have a Kamado Joe (basically a BGE with a couple of better features (sorry, had to take a jab at my BGE brothers :)), but I still wanted a propane grill for quick cooks. I ruled out a pellet grill simply because most don't sear as well. I was similar to you in that I wanted a good grill, but didn't want things like side burners, etc. I did want stainless burners and ideally grates. Long story short, I ended up with a special version made for Ace that had everything I wanted, but it didn't have the stainless grates. I ended up replacing the porcelain grates with "grill grates" which are aluminum grates that a lot of people swear by. It wasn't the cheapest grill, but I expect it to last a fair amount of time. This is the one I got. They also make one without the extra sear burner for a bit less. Best part was they delivered it assembled completely free. https://www.acehardware.com/departments/outdoor-living/grills-and-smokers/gas-grills/8017320

Good point above. I am in the process of putting in a Generac as I type this. One thing the people that built my house did was put a hand pump on the well where you could get water even if the power was out. You don't want to do it a lot, but it does give you the ability to get water for emergency purposes in a worst case scenario.
-
Have you actually looked at the results of city water composition in many places? You may be surprised what tolerances are allowed. Most people don’t like wells because they don’t understand them. Not saying city water isn’t fine, but I wouldn’t let the need for a well stop me from buying a property that had everything else I wanted. I have two friends both on city water that also have Kinetico systems. Just because you are on city water doesn’t mean you have good water. Depends how picky you may be I suppose.

There is nothing wrong with a well. Pro's and Con's like most other items. Biggest things with a well that you need to know are its capacity meaning how many gallons per minute can it supply the pump and what is the condition of the water. Well water around here is typically going to be pretty hard due to the limestone. You may or may not have enough sulfur in it to require removal. If you do a well, I would plan not only for the cost of the well, but also the cost for a conditioning system. I have a Kinetico reverse osmosis system to take the little sulfur that I have out as well as to soften the water (salt). Depending how bad the sulfur is, it could go from needing nothing to a full on desulfurization setup. Kinetico is pretty well top of the line on water systems and mine ran about 6k with a high end drinking water (K5) option. If you had to get a true desulfurization setup, it could add another 4-5k from what I understand. I was able to get by with a charcoal based filter media for my use. Depending where your closest neighbor would be, it would probably be good to see if they have a well and their water quality. Kinetico will come do a test and tell you what you need, but you need to have the well in to do that. Lots of things can be in the water, so a test is really mandatory if you want to know what you really have. Here is a link to their site to give you an idea of their products. https://www.kinetico.com/

I had 5" on the north side of Chapel Hill. I have two creeks that merge behind my house. Both are normally just slow running. They were both running hard and about 4ft above normal for a few hours yesterday. Had a couple of high water spots on main roads between me and the bear creek exit on 65 this morning. Lots of water around us. I think we were right in the middle of the main path for the last two days.

My brother lives not far from where this happened and was in the area yesterday. I have been to that King Supers with him. Said he has never seen so many police at once on the roads headed towards to the store while he was headed home from a Dr's appt. I called because his wife is a teacher and my nieces go to two of the schools within a couple of blocks of there. Luckily their schools were on spring break this week. He said a lot of kids go to that store for lunch. He said what I think most of us would say and that is "No one would ever think it would happen in a place like this". It's highly affluent and in general a very safe place. It only takes once. Waiting to see if they knew anyone killed or injured. I would be surprised if they don't.

Convenient timing..........

I got my first shot in Thursday. 45 and overweight so qualified since they updated the groups who can get it. If you live near Marshall county, they have a lot of availability. I booked Tuesday. Williamson was closer but their appt’s were a month out.

Worst case, budget in adding a french drain around the house as well as fixing the gutter situation. Water destroys more houses than just about anything.

Has anybody tried reloading primers yet?
Hozzie replied to Quavodus's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
This world has gone insane. If it gets to the point I have to reload primers I will just start buying big bore PCP guns and forget primers and powder all together. -
That is exactly what I was hoping to find. I would think there would be a demand for it still, but like anything it's probably hard to find someone that wants to manage the overall scheduling, etc. I may call Volunteer Welding and ask them as well. Looks like they put on or at a minimum partner in the class mentioned above. I bought my gas from them. I suspect they may know of anything like this if it exists. I don't have high end equipment but it works fine for what I need. I have a Hobart Handler 140 I use for Mig and an Everlast PowerTIG 255EXT for TIG and Stick. I have bottles of shielding gas for both so I should have the basics to practice with any of it. I bought a 50 Amp Everlast Plasma at the same time. While not the most powerful, it cuts through anything I need at this point. My shop isn't heated yet so too cold to be out doing much now, but will get back out soon and start playing.
-
I just checked and it still gave me the option to purchase a ticket. I may try to contact them and see if we can setup a class if I can get 6 of us to commit to it. The hard part is really having a class that would work for everyone as I suspect we have different experience levels. I would even be up for a 4 or 5 classes if the instructors would offer it. Progress a bit as we go. I'll see what I can find out next week.
-
I can't make tomorrow but will watch this for future options. Could be too basic but with no formal training I doubt it could hurt.
-
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have watched quite a bit of youtube and I can certainly go out and play with about anything I want in the shop, mess things up and try again and that is always a good way for me to learn, but I also realize I can start a lot of bad habits and not even know it. Danger Rane, I may try to take you up on your offer at some point. We could turn it into a Weld and Shoot day. I will take a look at some of those videos. I have watched quite a few, but maybe I just need to jump in and give it a go.
-
Yeah, it may even take something like getting a small group together and approaching a welding shop where we could make it worth while for one of their guys to make some extra money. I am not looking to learn the ins and outs of metallurgy in fine detail, but some real world guidance on welding basic Fe metals and aluminum.
-
So I have been on the search for a welding class where I can go learn the "right" way to weld. I can "farm" weld with a Mig and Stick, but I wouldn't call it pretty. I also have a Tig that I would like to start to learn to use correctly. My projects have seemed to work up to this point, but I would really like to learn some proper technique. My problem is that I can't seem to find any classes that used to exist where someone could go a couple of nights a week for 12 weeks or something and get some basic knowledge and experience. Everything I find is a technical college or CC that offers classes to someone wanting to make Welding their career and requires going 5 days a week in the middle of the day. Does anyone happen to know of anywhere that does the classes like they used to around Nashville. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong places. I have all of the equipment and could just youtube and do things with trial and error, but for me it isn't the same as some real instruction. Thanks in advance for any insight. I thought someone here may know of somewhere that does something like this.

Agree. I hate it when one accident like this turns into "No one should ever do this again and it should be illegal" talk. We did a lot of dumb things when I was kid growing up in Illinois where at that time we did get plenty of snow. 99.9% of the time, nothing happens. That .1% or less is unfortunate, but bad things happen every day. That's part of life.
