They will not ban handguns anytime soon. Too large of fight. Ammo is just going to keep going up. i would buy as much ammo as I could, or better yet buy components so you can make more with less invested.

Not as thin as a 1911, but a nice gun is the Sig P220 Carry.

Where are all of the pro- gun voices?
Hozzie replied to superduty's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Let me assure you, their reasoning isn't for trying to be "classy". If they thought they could win the discussion right now, they would be out there. They know they are outnumbered by all of the emotional responses and it would be in great detriment to try and give reasons why their views are correct. -
No, it only takes the 2022 mags. Check cdnn as I think they had them on sale.

I will take a shooting in a school before I want school to become a prison, so yes, I guess I have to accept bad things can and will happen. More children will probably die today of cancer today than did in this shooting. While it is raw emotion now, some perspective will eventually come to the top. Like I said, these things are tragic, but it is not so prevalent I am willing to give up basic freedom.
-
Statements like these are getting old for me. While I am 100% for the 2nd Amendment, one thing that is so obvious in this particular comparison is that (I won't say all because I don't know for sure), but all or most of the children in China lived. Yes, it is still tragic, but ask any of the parents in Conn if they would rather have a wounded child or a dead child. While a knife can certainly be lethal, I think any reasonable person would admit that a gun is more dangerous than a knife in most situations. I am not talking about a ninja, just a normal person using either.

Glad I would have never went to a school you would like to open. Schools aren't prisons. At the end of they day, bad things happen. This is tragic, but when we get to that level, the crazies have won. Your child could get hit by a truck on the way home, they could die of a heart attach, or anything. Let's not turn our country into a police state thinking somehow we would be safer.
-
Sorry, this isn't true. Yes, they talked about doing that, but it didn't even come up for real discussion. I agree with most of what you said, just trying to not spread rumors.
-
We don't know and will never know. That is never going to happen. To be quite honest, I know enough teachers and 95% of them I wouldn't want carrying a gun. It's a tragedy, and unfortunately, I do expect it to be an overwhelming referral for those that don't think anyone should have guns. Haven't heard anything on the size of magazine's or anything else yet. Magazine limits and Semi-Auto's will be first on the list.

Let the Appeal begin, but at least it's a start. I grew up there and am glad to see they may some day actually catch up to the rest of the country. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/12/11/federal-court-strikes-down-illinois-ban-on-carrying-concealed-weapons/

If you are willing to go to $800, without a doubt I would look for a nice Smith Model 41. In the $500-$600 range I like the CZ Kadet, and in the$350- $400 range, I also have the Sig 1911-22 which I have also been impressed with. I don't have an SR22, but have heard great things about them. There are multiple guns in your range. I am not typically a fan of 22lr conversions, and I love Sigs, but that isn't the way I would personally go. In order, I would go Smith 41 (a classic that is one of the best handguns ever made), CZ Kadet, and Sig 1911-22 since you already have a MKIII. If you find a great deal on any of them, I don't think you would go wrong. Some others to consider may be a Browning International Medalist or the High Standard Victor or Trophy. Both excellent target pistols.
I wouldn't do a bill of sale, either. That might be seen as a violation. You know, FFL thing across state lines?
If he has a TN DL then he is a resident of TN. If he is giving it to him while he is in TN, then no issue at all I wouldn't think as long as he is stationed there for the Service.
-
I can't speak to true legalities, but I can tell you that if it was me and I was really sure they would give it back when they can get their own, I would just give it to him. I might even ask him to sign a bill of sale just for pure liability unless you are sure he would say you sold it to him should something ever happen. If asked where he got it, an answer of so and so loaned it to me may not be good for you. God forbid he ever has to use it AND it is determined you only loaned it to him, I would think you could be held liable. If you "sell" it to him, it's on him until he "sells" it back to you. My two cents.

If you are going to be near Owensboro, you MUST go to Whittaker's. Just plan to spend some money.

For me, it's not a matter of right vs. wrong, it's a matter of what are you comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable carrying one in the chamber, then don't. If you are, then do. I carry one in the chamber, but I am comfortable with my gun and safe handling skills. Still, anything can happen to even the best and most safety conscious people. I would rather be in close vicinity of someone with a gun in C3 if they aren't comfortable in C1. If you aren't comfortable, your more likely to make a mistake IMO.

David, I walked down a couple of times yesterday to your booth, but you must have been out and around the show. It was busy. Sold a couple of things, but picked up a nice shooter grade Smith 41.
-
As many of you know, the show in Tulsa is very large. David has his booth and millions of primers. Here are a couple of pics I took today.

Again, putting logic to it, IF there was no third party and every one of those persons voted, statistics would tell you that they would probably be split in the same percentage as those who did vote for either a republican or a democrat. When you do the math, nothing changes. If you believe that 100% of the third party vote would have went to Romney, then no amount of reasoning will convince you otherwise.
-
So you assume every single one of those votes would have went for Romney (even a vast majority)? Pretty optimistic. I begrudgingly voted for Romney, but am not surprised Obama won. Like it or not, the electorate is changing and we are becoming the minority. This is democracy. You may not like it because you lost, but the process ran it's course and Obama won. Time to move on and either be part of the solution or continue to be part of the problem.

Auction with some seriously cool items - Saturday - Nov 3
Hozzie replied to monkeylizard's topic in General Chat
That has some nice things, but if you are in Western Middle TN, this is the one I would go to on Nov 3rd. http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/auctionview.cgi?lid=1507167&kwd=&zip=37064&category=0 -
For your budget, if you want a very accurate bench gun in 308, you could consider the Savage 12 Benchrest in 308. You would then have $400 for a nice scope. This would challenge you in other ways, especially since you reload. That gun is capable of 1/2 MOA easily. The fun (at least for me) is working up a load for the gun and really working on shooting technique to see how good YOU can make it shoot. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/57415 While Savage's aren't always the prettiest guns, they are typically the best value of accuracy vs. cost. If you want to spend more on the gun and save up for a scope, I would consider a Cooper. There are a million possibilities. If you want something more tactical, then I am not the guy to give opinions. I have a few AR-15's, but not an AR-10. More information would really be need to given to make a good recommendation. You don't have a bolt gun. My personal opinion would be to have at least one bolt gun.

You can buy/sell a long gun while out of state but you must do the transfer there. If you buy from or sell to an out of state entity while you are within TN, it has to go through an FFL on the receiving end. I don't think prices are any higher here than anywhere else, it's just finding the right deal. Everyone everywhere usually asks more than their gun is worth and if they don't, it sells quickly. There are exceptions to the rule of course, but in general, an educated seller and an educated buyer will typically come to reasonable price for both of them. You mix and match the two (educated/uneducated), then anything is possible.

This is an interesting painting. I think it sums up many of our feeling here. If nothing else, his work is excellent. http://www.youtube.c...bed/4KGlBHyVeYU

I would think Bass Pro may have some.

Multiple Unarmed Attackers/ Justifiable Homocide
Hozzie replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I would say a lot depends on the size of the persons involved, but in general, I believe that if you fear for your life, then you are justified in using force to stop the threat. That would mean to me, if I shot one and the other was still coming and I thought they were capable of kiliing me, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot them as well. If it is two teenage girls, probably not. If you fear for your life and only shoot to stop the threat, I think you are well within the law. I'm not a lawyer and I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn, but that is my take.
