1. If you think a 10/22 is a bit chunky, then I think a bolt or lever action is the only real option.  I prefer bolt actions myself for the classic lines, but you gotta go with what you like.     I have multiple CZ's and highly recommend them, but that said I don't have one of their semi-auto's.   If you decide to consider one of their bolt actions, I think a 452/455 American is hard to beat for looks and weight.  I have a 452 American with a 16" barrel that is super light and easy to walk around with.  It has the threaded barrel as I am also waiting on my suppressor.  Best place around here to get one is Whittaker's in KY (ok, it's a couple of hours from Nashville, but still the best place to get one).     A Marlin 39A would also be a good gun to look for.  Henry's are ok, but for me, they lack in the fit and finish categories.
2. I didn't need to see this thread.  Cost me $700, but I have been looking for a good 204 Ruger upper for quite some time.  As it includes the BCG and has a fairly expensive rail on it, I didn't think it was too bad.  I guess we'll see how it shoots.   http://shop.redxarms.com/24-FLUTED-SABRE-DEFENCE-204-RUGER-UPPER-1-12-WITH-BCG-CH-SABRE204UA.htm
3. Unfortunate for you and anyone else who has this opinion. You are missing out on a great city. I find that most who have this opinion have never been there or have any idea where the real issues are in Chicago. Does it have it's issues, sure. Is it silly to call it a sewer hole, absolutely.
4. I have a Trane heat pump that works just fine. As others have said, when it gets below 32, I use the emergency heat. Mine is almost 20 years old and still passes it's semi- annual checkups easily and it runs efficiently. I will also do a new Trane hybrid elec/NG when my current one dies. I would also pay the piping cost just to have a gas stove. I can stand cooking on electric.
5.
Lady said it was 9 months from pending date on the phone. LAMMMEEEEEEEEE. But, we'll see about that as well….. My last one took 5 months and 16 days. I'm already over that, but who knows, maybe I'll get them this month or next…. lets hope...
Mine went pending May 17th and I haven't received mine yet. I think you have a while. I also have one that went pending in June. I hope to get one this month and one in March.
6. I grew up in northern Illinois and we had pheasants. Get to central Illinois and they are all gone. Reason as I understand it is similar to what Dennis mentioned. It has to do with a lack of a specific mineral they need to survive. Even if they are transplanted, they will die out, not from the predators per se, but from a lack of this mineral.
7. Capt. Morgans for me. Right in the middle. Pretty accurate for me.
8. Just read this. So sorry for your loss. You are great, responsible owners for doing what was right. May he rest in peace.
9. It isn't great, but I bought a Python at an excellent price at a show there a year ago. All it takes is one gun to make it great. I also only live 2 miles away so it is a no brainer. I wouldn't drive 30 miles for it, but I probably would 15. I have spent $10 on a lot worse things. Worth it to me just to go look around. Never know what you will find.
10. The trainer will have an 11mm dovetail. I think see through sites will make it hard, if not impossible to get a cheekweld. Go here to get all info you could want on combos for the 452. www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=336921
11. Can we already just add icons like the HCP and NRA to the profiles. That way we can all easily know who's in what camp. Maybe pro-homo and anti-homo icons. I think many of us know who here is supportive of what side, but this way all we have to do is look at the badge . This will just save us all time and energy. I haven't looked for icons yet, but examples are welcome.
12.
There is a high road and a low road to teach this person lessons of life. I chose the high road.
I didn't say ask for him to be fired, but I don't consider telling management about poor decisions as low road. In the end, it is up to them what to do with him. As an employer, I would want to know. I probably wouldn't fire him, but I would put him in another area of the store that wasn't as fun. The kid probably though, phew, got away with that one. He will do the same thing again and we will then keep complaining about these "inside" jobs.
13. I disagree. I think there is no better lesson in life than actions have consequences. Better to learn young when you have less responsibility. Having to answer for your actions to your employer is part of life.
14. It fits perfectly in the bottom of the MES next to the heat box.
15. http://www.amazenproducts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=AMNPS5X8 It is well worth the $40.00. You can also get it from amazon.
16. I would use the AMNPS with no heat for cold smoking. The MES has a minimum temp of 100 or so. I actually don't use the chip tray from the smoker at all since I can load the AMNPS and forget about it for 11 hrs.
17. Very easy to set and it holds temp well for me. The only thing I did was check my temp against what I know to be a good thermometer. Mine was high by about 15 degrees which was ok for me as I can now adjust it. It heats up fairly quickly. Probably 20-25 minutes this morning to reach 275. I use an IGrill to watch the temps of the meat inside on my iPad.
18.
I like what I see with that one. All I have to do is figure out how to get one shipped to my local store. Dave
That is the one I have as well that I mentioned earlier. Just did a turkey breast for dinner today. Turned out great.
19. I just purchased a Masterbuilt 30 electric from TSC since it was on clearance for $129. I like the idea of not having to stoke a fire and not worrying about trying to keep the temp exactly right. I was going to go with the bigger one, but for the price I figured I would give this a try. It is more than enough for me. After a lot of research on smoking meat forums, I also got a AMNPS which is a tray that you put pellets in and just put it in the bottom of the smoker. Using that you don't use chips in the smoker itself and worry about feeding it every 30 minutes. I just did four 6 pound shoulders yesterday for pulled pork and they were fantastic. 12 hours total cook time. A full load if pellets in the AMNPS lasts 11 hrs so no need to worry about the smoke. Almost set it and forget it. I wrapped the shoulders in foil at 165 and then let them go to 195. Took them out of the smoker and wrapped them in a towel (still in foil) and let them rest in a cooler for an hour. They were unbelievably tender. If you haven't checked out smoking meat forum, I highly recommend it.
20. 20 gauge o/u for me. Best overall bird gun IMO. The rest I am ok with.
21.   Actually, my favorite character is probably the youngest daughter.  Tim is funny of course as well, but they write some great lines for her character.
22.   We aren't castigating him, we are castigating A&E for being hypocrites.  Many of us have already said we don't agree with his views, although I do believe he would treat a gay with the same respect he would anyone else.  Some on here, not so much..
23. This isn't the popular opinion, but at the root of all of this is religion.  I am not anti-religion per se, and in actuality I am Atheist , but that doesn't mean I don't tolerate religion.  I am of the opinion, you stay out of my business and I'll stay out of yours.  You believe in what you want so long as you don't try to force me to think the same as you.  Seems neither side can do this with any affect.    I know many here have very strong beliefs in your religion, but I read a statement the other day that really stuck with me. Some have probably heard it before, but for me it rings true.  I am sure others will disagree, but it at least made me think.   “I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one less god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.” —Stephen F Roberts
24.   I agree with this in some sense, but you do realize the irony in that statement as well, correct?  Just because "your" group of people is losing its control over what people do and say and they are not being forced to make themselves like you, that now there is some major problem.  I don't buy it.  This country is still great, just go take a look around the world and tell me where else you want to live.
25. I agree. This is about A&E being a bunch of hypocrites. I hate that worse than the bigots.
