  1. IIRC the CD is a plated brass case? The ZMax is brass.
  2. Those are classic. Nice find. Greetings from a (former) Michigander.
  3. If they would do one to take 9 or .40 S&W M&P magazines I would buy one. I don't need more pistol mags of a different ilk.
  4. There is a Show in K'Town this Saturday. Maybe I will go on a 66 hunt.
  5. M&P .40/.357 SIG are interchangeable but NOT 9mm.
  6. I just went to Frozen Head SP for the first time. Pretty nice but the main and close in trails were busy on a Fall Color Weekend. It is not handgun permissible friendly. Had to change my carry plans. Folks were family oriented and the dogs friendly so even the bear spray wasn't needed. Tungsten tipped hiking poles were the backup and a few stout blades. Assuming something not drastic enough to hinder you getting to Memphis you will be driving and you need to at least assume you have the range without having to stop for fuel or carry enough to make it. Your camping equipment if you get can get it all in a couple of packs and mabye a couple carry types would allow you to walk "all the way to Memphis". Get some good topo maps and a pathfinder type compass and learn how to use it. Worst case there is no GPS and no internet or cell service, think EMP event. I would concentrate on "stuff" that allows you to get where you need to go. Even if it means walking for days on end. Water filtering equipment is a must as are a couple of adequate containers to put the water in. There are water filtration straws which are handy to have under many circumstances. Water, light weight high energy food, lightweight/layerable clothing, good comfortable packs bivy bags instead of a tent for cross State travel, good shoes, socks etc. Most of this stuff isavailable on line such as Campmoor, REI, even Mast General, Bass Pro, Gander etc. Just think out all the possible contingencies, play what if. Fortunately much of what you need will be good for recreational outdoor use and possible emergencies.
  7. I'm hoping it won't take as long to find a 66 as it did the 19. Photographer Unknown
  8. I have a 40c and 9Pro. I can use the magazines from the 9 in the 40 with the conversion barrel. The 50% point isn't quite 50% when you already have a half dozen 9mm mags albeit full sized ones so on can let them hang or put XGrips on if it's a C. Since the Storm Lake is a "match barrel" you might even get better accuracy.
  9. If anyone knows of a 66 (stainless) in 2.5 inch w/o a lock for sale in east TN drop me an email. Would be happy to do a FTF. I'll consider any condition. dadams111@charter.net
  10. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try out the conversion. Storm Lake is located in Lenoir City just up the road from me. I spoke with them on a couple occassions and swapped a couple of emails. They said the .40 to 9mm barrel is a "drop-in" replacement and no modifications were required (the right magazines must be utilized). Before making the buy I researched and communicated with owner/users on the S&W Forum and the M&P Forum. My confidence is high that this will work, but practical experience has yet to take place, and I am by far not an M&P Guru. I just own a couple.
  11. Two revolvers on my S&W bucket list amongst many. Models 19 and 66 in 2.5 inch. I have been tracking prices on the 19 and 66s and they definitely aren't coming down!! I didn't want to buy one sight unseen (via photos) from GA or GB. So, I have been waiting patiently for a couple of years now. Two sets of eyes are better than one and my Son found this one at a LGS. It was a week before I could get in and look at it. I wasn't really concerned that it was going to be gone...with the price they had on it. Based on The Standard Catalog of S&W description I would say this is "As New in Box" or "Excellent Plus" at the absolute minimum. Box matches and is 99.5%, wax paper is intact and tools are there and unopened. All paperwork and marketing material included and like new. You can barely see a turn line and I don't know if has been fired or not although it is questionable. It appears that is sat around as the first indication of sale is 1981 in Indiana. SN 91KO 3XX. Anyone know what "Special Features" 370 and INS 23 means? Apparently this is a 1980. You know how hard it is to photograph the blue stuff, but here are three pics. This thing is simply stunning.

  13. That is a major issue. I tried one of these on a camping trip last year and it worked quite will, not a great long term solution but acceptable. Biodegradable bags (or not) and cat litter. This effectively handled (not literally) two persons solid waste for three days before the bag was changed out and buried. I bought the bio bags for camping. It handled my 190 lb ass. A little low for a 6 footer but it beat the heck out of hanging over a downed tree. I'm cosidering a second one. I now have 40lbs of cat litter but need about 5 times that. We just got another 100 rolls of TP at Sam's on the last run. Lime sounds like a good idea too. You could actually use this same concept in your standard home toilet in a pinch.

  15. motonut- I like the slab sides. If that configuration would have been available I would have selected that style. We had a Red Dot on ours of some description my Son had on it. Took it off for use at a HCP course. What's up with the tool?
  16. I didn't have a .22 LR pistol to go along with my 10/22 and share ammo so it was time to get one. I did a little research and in a semi-auto the top two were the Browning Buckmark or the Rugers. I'm not a 1911 person so the Ruger in that format didn't influence me. I purchased one of the special run Buckmark Hunters from Gander Mountain. 5.5 inch barrel, fiber optic sight, rail and URX grips and including a funky cool Browning rug!! Added a couple extra magazines for a total of three and bought a ton of 22 LR. I think everyone in my family has shot it but me and a good time has been had by all so far. "Here you go, it probably needs cleaning". Seems like a win/win because everyone comes home from the range happy and it's cheap to shoot. This is the least researched handgun I have ever bought but with all the reviews out there it wasn't too dificult a choice and I got to handle a couple of Rugers, and two different Buckmarks. I liked the ergonomics of the Buckmark better than the Ruger. It was kind of a toss up. Kind of want a 8 shot S&W kit gun revolver now. Always something.
  17. Go to the KT Forum. Lots of commentary and feedback. My son has a P32 and it shoots pretty well. I think he still has it but replaced it with a Ruger LCP .380....which for the money/weight/size is the way I would go. Much nicer construction, fit and finish than the KT for under $300. There is a chrome upper version around too if you look around. I think Gander Mountain had them and there is an Ace Hardware over here in East TN who carries them. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21_49_75/products_id/54585 $289 at bud's delivered to your FFL. 10 ounces. 4.8 star rating. You can even get one with a CT laser grip. Which would make this a nice package. All for $430. .32 ammo isn't as tough to get now adays but there is a plethora of .380 now where a year or more ago you could hardly find it. Now it comes in bulk packs!! load up.
  18. I finally got to the range to check out the new Crimson Trace laser for my Kahr PM9. I bought one when CT had a $50 rebate a couple months ago. Accuracy and allignment was perfect right out of the box and the installation was easy and straightforward. Fit and finish was up to CT par. I have had the PM9 for over 4 years now and I was always just ok with this 3 inch barrel 9mm and pie plate sized groups in the COM for PD at 7 yards wasn't ever an issue yet no matter how much I shot it I never impressed myself nor could I seem to improve either... until I added the Crimson Trace laser. I am now able to do consistant three inch groups at 7 yards. No more having to go to the sights and point shooting has become very straightforward; not having to put the gun up to eye level or arm extend allowed me to keep it in closer to my body. Deployment and first shot is now much faster not having to come up to sight level and ready. I have CTs on a couple of J Frame revolvers but the accuracy and repsonse characteristics on those is nothing compared to the performance brought out with me and this little semi-auto. They made for really dramatic results and the PM9 now has me excited about 7 rounds of 9mm as opposed to 5 rounds of .38spl plus P. BTW I probably have 600 flawless rounds through this gun now. DeSantis Gunhide N87 IWB with spare magazine. Since I don't pocket carry this anymore I added the Pearce extension which feels good.
  19. I have a number of lights for various functions and have a couple Fenix and number of 4 Sevens. 4 Sevens has a 10 year warranty and uses current generation Cree LEDs which mean you are getting the highest number of lumens available today for the power input. They also use an ANSI rating of OTF or out the front lumens so there is no ambiguity as to how much light they put out. I don't know of many to any who do an industry standard rating. www.4sevens.com. These units are designed in the US and manufactured in China unfortunately to keep the cost competetive. The company is located in GA though and employs Georgians. My highest output is a Maelstrom G5 I have two. 350Lumens. $150. each. Fits the hand nicely, comes with a holster, I use it with a neck lanyard so it can dangle or drop free. Nice size bright and it has a very versatile and programmable UI. I have a mount and switch so this can go on my AR if desired. My favorite EDC are the Preon II. I have two of these also. I like this light so much I never wanted to be without one so one can be used for parts. Runs on AAAs and is a stylus format. Clips in the shirt pocket, drops nicely in the pocket with no bulk is a great low level task light yet is quite bright at a maximum of 160 lumens and as little at 2 which is plenty in a tent or indoors working on electronics. I like it because I can hold it/gum it in my mouth if need be, it is that light. I have a number of other in between sizes sizes but these are two of my favorites. Of course you have to have a couple Everready Headlamps.
  20. At this juncture I would have to say my EDC, Spyderco Native. Lock back, CPMS30V stays sharp. Very light yet strong enough for most daily tasks. Also shown a very inexpensive Morakniv (Swedish) fixed blade a great value for about $15. EDC
  21. Impulse Item. Came in for toilet tissue, a case of Bud Light and some cheese. Left with an AR.
  22. I have a LWS .380 and bought it a few years ago, when the wait time from Seecamp was over a year. Don't know what it is now. I ran mine down through their dealer network after calling about 10 of them. I finally found one in stock where the guy had it above the price Seecamp charged but was reasonbly priced, considering the wait time. The recoil on the .380 is very harsh, and I added a grip extension which helped out significantly but didn't effect the carry quality. Back when I purchased this, it was the only game in town for small, light and high quality. Now there are several other choices available in .32 and .380. The Seecamp is a work of art and solid stainless steel. There is nothing to compare to this day. Anything NAA makes weighs significantly more. The Seecamp .32 would IMO would be a good way to go. Great deep cover gun and reasonable priced compared to the .380. If I were going just the run of mill .380 today there are a number of good choices and I would pass on the .32. These are just incredible quality and an heirloom investment with class. I carry mine in a DeSantis. I carry this more than anything else. S&W M&P 340 is my alternate.

    S&W M&P

I have a M&P 40c. I also have a M&P9 Pro. Now one would think that the 9Pro should have had the better trigger..supposedly it should. The 9Pro had the common "gritty" feel to it. The 40c did not. In actuality the 40c has a nicer trigger, comparing both new and out of the box within a couple months of each other. I purchased an Apex kit DCEAK thinking it was going in the .40. At this juncture it hasn't gone in either and I am going to get a few hundred rounds through each before I do anything. I like the 40 and bought a Storm Lake Barrel so I can drop it in and make it a 9mm. With the appropropriate magazines of course. With the XGrip and Viridian C5L Green Laser. I ordered it with Trijicon Night Sights and it came with 3 magazines.
  24. I'm getting used to the laser. It's different in its activivation methodology from the two CT 405s I have on J Frames. Every night, well almost every night I spend a few minutes working the holster and activating the laser doing a short two room sweep.
