This is a great area, I just don't know anyone in the immediate area as this is my wife's hometown. I do hunt down in Bethpage south of here. Will probably go Wed morning to see what's up down there.

I don't know about you guys but I think mating season is over and done in south Tennessee (Wayne Co). I hunted two areas yesterday down there. In the woods near a usual roosting place for them in winter, sun came up, nothing. Did hear a gobbler at around 6:15 crank off a few times but by 6:30 the woods were silent. Even the crows had moved off. Went across the county to our deer lease and brothers property. Couldn't get them to answer anywhere. Brother saw two hens as he was driving around the property. I finally saw one moving by herself and quiet around 5:00 PM yesterday evening. This quiet and single hens leads me to believe they have already done their duty and its done down there. I may try a few times up here in Sumner Co but if you don't hear a lot of activity as they are coming off the roost and trying to gather together in the morning then your just not going to have any luck. So has anyone else seen a bunch of strutting going on this weekend or are you seeing the same? The reports I'm getting is there was a ton of strutting two weeks ago during juvenile.

I can hunt all I want on family property and never buy a license with the current rules for landowners but I buy a sportsmans license every year so that I can make my contribution to them doing what I see is stellar work in game management. When my father, who was born in 1940 was a boy, people would talk for days about just seeing a deer print somewhere, now we pass them dead on the side of the road like a opossum they are so common and plentiful. I myself never saw a turkey until about 12-15 years ago, now I see them everywhere. They may not be perfect but they are doing right by me and I'll toss them my bones every year to help. Everything has a cost to it.

Wow, I just got wind of this thread from 56Fordguy. Nice to know one other person in Tennessee has dealt with Marty! I love the 458 platform and would really love to see how that SBR handles someday Alleycat! I had the standard 16 inch heavy barrel flat top. I got mine well before Marty's run in with the hurricane but he's always been behind. A one man operation with that much demand can't ever catch up. Finances last year forced me to part ways with mine but I'll have another. They are pure hell on deer! Love that set up. Hope to see it someday. Thanks for sharing.

Funny this all came along. I live in the city limits of Westmoreland, TN. Granted we are a small town, but I've seen deer in my yard and the neighbors across the street have a small patch of apple trees so they are there in the early fall as well. I have seen turkey around the city but not in it......till today. I just pulled in from a run to Napa, 1/2 mile down the street and there were 4 birds in the back yard. 3 definitely hens as I went in and got bino's and camera. The 4th moved off in the tree line and haven't seen "it" come back out. I figure that might have been a jake. I called on a pan call and got their attention. They have been feeding for 30 minutes now. I'll keep taking a look but they are holding up my progress putting some stakes down next to all the little trees I just planted. If a jake comes within 30 of the house, well, let's just say I might want to get closer to him.

Don't get me wrong, if I didn't have work, I would be up till 2 or 3 everynight. I'm a night person, worked the night shift for 4 years until 2 years ago and liked it. I just can't get up at 6 after going to bed 4 hours ago like I did when I was in my 20's and 30's. Heck back in the good ole days, we would drink in the O club till it shut down, stumble to the hooch and have a night cap and then go run PT at O dark thirty smelling like breweries or So Ju (Korea, ah the memories). I could look at a beer today and get a headache. I'd probably puke running to the truck to avoid rain. Getting old sucks!!!

So how hard are those storms coming through Jackson, Dickson, Clarksville fellas? Worth staying up a bit later than norm to see a good light show or just your run of the mill spring line of T-storms with a few sparks? I still like watching a good lighting storm on the back porch at night, never get tired of those. Let us know what your seeing. Memphis seems to be done, how was it Jack??

Been on the planet 46 years, been to Korea, Central America, Canada and a good deal of the lower 48 and a stop off in Alaska. Been hunting, camping, patrolling, sitting, and even some sitting and drinking at all hours but haven't seen or heard anything I couldn't explain. I just ain't that lucky I guess. Still waiting on that first UFO or ghost. I dunno.
