Based on what the OP said, the law won't support him in his effort to get this fixed. He's reduced to either living with it as is, seeking to negotiate compensation to buy one himself and getting a lower rent or buying his own and taking it with him. Some folks will follow the letter of the law, especially when it is beneficial to them (see Kwik in the dingbat law dictionary) while others will go above and beyond what is the minimum required as decent and honorable members of society. A situation was posited, thoughts and opinions rendered. You are now free to offer greater insight what the OP should do and state what you would do.

Yeah, weird wasn't it? We lived in College Park off Glades Rd. That anywhere near where you were?

Nope, just don't need to hear MF 50 times and think it's classified as music. It's NSFRW

I made my statement that I work in Logistics to give you a little understanding of the magnitude of what is going on there. I also showed openly my background as basis for my conclusions. You still haven't told us what you do so we can form the same opinions. That's okay. Your already removing all doubt. Carry on.

I never made any statements to support the original post that you couldn't tell in a year. I think you will be able to. The thread was debating that issue till you stepped in and started your diatribe on how you were going to boycott everything BP. We calmly told you that was an ill informed opinion because you were trying to damage people who had nothing to do with any of this other than to have the name on their shops sign. You want to protect jobs in Louisiana by trying to damage them here...nice logical conclusion! No one took you up on your "bet" as it's a fools bet. What we did state was that until the exact and actual causes are determined, there should be no rush to judgment. People are being effected by this just as they are auto accidents, economic downturns and bad planning in their individual lifes. Another did state you are not entitled to a job and it's a true statement. Show me your contract with the US, State of Tennessee, what ever county your in that says you are entitled to X job ! What you are entitled to is the right to pursue a job. Its up to you. He never said those that are having their jobs effected by this tragedy did not have recourse, they do, in a court of law or by what ever process comes AFTER this runs it course. We do not know why or how this happened! If it's determined that there was an undersea quake or an act of sabotage, is BP held to the same accountability that they would be if it's determined a drunken worker turned the wrong valve? They will suffer as will all those employed by them for one individuals misdeed. What if they prove that all safety policies were followed to the letter but it was a weak valve on the blow out preventer that failed. BP purchased that from someone right? Still their fault. We do not know but its a big company with lots of money so they should pay pay pay! Typical thinking in America today. There's a tragedy but it must be someone with money that caused it. You can say anything you want. You have. It's sad, but you have the right to say it, just as I am. I'm just not going to rush to judgment like you. I'll pull for the men and women trying to get it shut down and hope that the truth can be determined and brought forth for us all to know. Then, if negligence is determined, go after them with all the legal means possible. Let those with damages bring forth the proof and let the guilty write the checks.

Uh, yeah, had to turn that off pretty quick.

Did you get dropped on your head when young? Your the only one spouting anything "Rush". You also sound like a 5 year old. That's standard practice when you can't intelligently join in debate. So noted. I worry about my job everyday. My customer is Chrysler. Recall that they filed bankruptcy last year? I didn't wait for someone to tell me what to do. I didn't wait for the gubment to provide anything to me. I didn't have to listen to any talking head to advise me what should be done for my welfare. I had the resume updated, feelers out in many locations and was prepared to move to maintain employement. ME not anyone else. It was not my fault that Chrysler was failing. It was not my fault that layoffs were coming. It was my responsibility to take care of me and my family. Period. If there was a liberal talking head that could maintain a viable radio or TV show, I would probably stoop to your level for a moment, but since they can't back up anything they would talk about with facts or cogent thought, there isn't one. I have no idea what Rush has said about this, I work for a living. From your vitriolic statements, you don't listen to him either. Reach down deep and see if you can think clearly about this situation for 2 minutes and come to a logical view point. Your talking out your arse right now. No one here has said anything in the context of how your trying to deliver it. I work in Logistics and I have a plan. What do you do?? (oh yeah, did you get all your stuff moved yet there sport? I'll still take your car off your hands so you won't be tempted to put anything BP in it as well. I don't want to pay for it though, just wouldn't be right for you to profit from the transaction)

I found things like that in Boca Raton Florida back in 1979. Figured it was from a boat.

Wiinner above. I was also going to suggest paper plates and plastic cups. A few extra bags of garbage a month but the bachelors dream when cleaning up. I assume that if you don't like dishes you probably don't do big home cooking projects right? I bach'ed it a few months in Memphis back in 01 and the company paid for furnished apartments for us since we were there for 6 months minimum to shut down a contract. Minimal cooking but I did do some and the key is to rinse pots and pans immediately, as soon as the food is out, hit em with the water before anything sticks. Come back after dinner and a little dishwash soap and a sponge and your done. Use a kitchen towel to lay em on, put em up before bed. It's all about the timing brother, timing!

Let's step back and put some perspective on this. This is a big honking project to tackle. Logistically (pro here) this is a nightmare. They should be doing more....okay, how fast and how much more do you think they could do? Let's try a little exercise. Straightshooter, I hope you understand the scale of everything going on down there and you have so elegantly stated that apparently there are locals ready to go, they just need that little kiss of cash, but I digress. The 30 military aircraft, fleet of ships from Navy, Coast Guard and contracted private fleets plus ground forces, have run up a bill that Bo has slapped down on BP already, 68 million. Now the perspective part. Since so much more is apparently possible and should be done, let's use a small scale mock up and see what happens. I want Straightshooter to take every possession he has and move it 10 miles. That's all. One household, 10 miles. See how much transportation and man power you need to muster....oh, and do it by tomorrow! This is important! It has to happen now! People are watching this thread and forming opinions! When you post up that everything you own, rent or lease is 10 miles down the road, we can get a read on if BP and the govt have done everything they can. Oops, forgot the road block. While your trying to do this, someone will rip off your debit card number and start emptying your bank account (BP stock prices) so you better get the resources to move you fast before the cash drys up. Oh, one more, local law enforcement, THP and some Federal EPA folks are going to inject some of their policy on your move since they don't want you carrying to heavy a load on public roads or drop your stuff on the side of the road at the 10 mile mark. Finally, News 5 and WSMV will have to come into your home and watch it all going on....just to be sure your doing it right. We all then get to post our thoughts on how your doing it. Ready...lets go.

I want to see how many times we can say that 56 and still not have it understood. Not defending anything or anyone, just saying we don't know and need to work the problem so we can dig for the results once it's under control. I just find it funny that companies with profits are always the evil villians yet those that have failed but have "good interests at heart" get the good press while producing nothing for the common good.

Can I have your car then?

Don't reckon I'll care how much seafood costs when I can't drive off the hill to get any. Why do you want to throw a company that provides jobs to a lot of that same area under the bus with out any facts! If the fishing goes, I say you better open up drilling at a much higher rate to let those people have access to good paying jobs!!! Of course that raises the odds on another accident, rut roh. Take feeling out of it and work the problem. If it comes out that they were negligent then I along with everyone else can then feel righteous indignation.
-
The CEO of BP is on TV daily....what are you watching? So, the fisherman that signed up aren't going to move to save their own area until BP ponies up with front money, very altruistic of them. Would you write a check to someone you were in an auto accident with (not Travelers mind you, oops) before it had even been determined whom the blame and liability should fall on? It's an accident. BP states they will and are doing all they can. Neither you nor I know what they have or have not done that should have been done sooner or better. With all the wild rumors of what the government is said to have told them to do or could not do, who knows? I fall on the get it capped, start the clean up and then lets hope the real truth gets out so we can make an informed decision. Not that it matters as it will all be hashed out in courts and government actions we will have no input in other than what they take from their non-scientific public opinion polls. Clean the birds then lets find out where the poo is.

My company has a supervisors position that posted this week. This is a contract logistics company serving GM and Chrysler. We are located in between Mt. Juliet and Lebanon near I-40 and Highway 109 (near Dell and the Auto Auction if that helps) The position does not require logistics experience but it is a plus. It will be third shift, will either be managing the dock or transportation issues. To much to give details but the overview is the dock sups oversee the operations on the dock to include movement of all materials utilizing scanning equipment on forklifts, controlling movement of trailers at the facility, organizing work schedules. Transportation sups deal directly with CEVA drivers, outside carriers picking up loads, oversees the office staff and work schedules. Fast paced environment on both sides. We work some holidays. The drivers and dock staff are union, the office is not. Link to the online applications. Jobs, Vacancies, Careers in Contract Logistics CEVA Logistics North America, US & Canada
