We Have Another Future Permit Holder
Rightwinger replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm married to one of your species Dixie. I know all about the need to wear the good stuff to some of the damndest places;) -
Nope ....I'd be all over that if it had a collapsible grip. Wait a minute, it just might! I think you could put a nice Surefire in that gaping hole as well. You called it right, Butt Ugly!

That's fantastic! Get some firing line pics! That way when the internet search "spiders and bots" hook onto the tag line of senior-female-gun-carry permit they will get the news that its not just us southern boys that like a little protection! (tell her to touch up her makeup before putting on the hearing protection though, a lady has to maintain her standards:D) -
No love for the big guns:(

Rightwinger replied to 2000silverz28's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Buy it. Great plinking stuff. Does force you to clean immediately afterward but you should anyway, right? I got 1K in my box still in the plastic wrap just because... -
The 50 Beo is designed on a pistol cartridge and a straight walled case. It won't allow quite the pressure that the SOCOM will. The .450 Bushy came out after I was already in the line with Rock River for the upper. Rock River had issues getting all the parts and quality control checks done for production and it went long. After waiting 9 months I dropped my order with RRA and went direct to the developer of the round and had a custom upper made with a Pacnor barrel. All of the above have their points. The 50 Beo is available off the shelve in numerous locations. The Bushy seems interesting but is limited so far in bullet selection. You don't want to use pistol rated bullets in an AR gas system. It says it has ranges out to 200 yards, right there with the 458. The .458 can use bullets ranging from a new 86 grain aluminum bullet from Lehigh up to a 600 grain solid in subsonic. I prefer the 300 grain JHPs and the .405 grain soft points. Depending on how close to the envelope you go, you can push them out to 2000 feet per/sec. Avg speed on the 300's is around 1750 with no pressure signs. Mine sighted in the first time (with previously mentioned broken Burris) at 100 yards with NO ADJUSTMENTs needed. Used a Wilson Combat low pro AR mount, it aligned perfectly with the rifle! Its just fun to shoot those big bullets out of an AR.

Sorry to continue the hijack but I liked what I saw in the previous post about the Mechtech system using your pistol lower receiver but I loved what I saw (yes, some Mall Ninja is appearing) that will be coming from Magpul in the future. You have to go to the link for the pictures taken at this years SHOT show. Its in the 458SOCOMFORUMS.com where I moderate so its a safe link. Several other great items pictured as well. Pan down to the "boxy" looking item with the tactical light called a Glock carbine. It unfolds to a small SBR sized weapon. Just caught my eye and thought I would share. http://458socomforums.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1161&start=0

Well, funny you should ask.... That's a new scope as the Burris 3-9x I HAD on it broke a couple of Sunday's ago. I was working up some reloads and on the third shot the view through the scope went blurry. After clearing the weapon and starting to determine what happend my brother and I heard something rattling. It was the 2nd lens from the rear which was now rolling about in the scope tube. That scope is now in Colorado being evaluated by Burris for repair. We shall see how well they back their warranty. I would say it rocks a little above my 30-06 and a little below my .340 Weatherby mag. If you shoot about 10 times, it will leave a mark/bruise in the outline of the rubber butt pad of the ACE stock! This was the rifle in its previous state.

She is a handful for sure!

Finally got my new scope on my big bore AR in .458 Socom. Anyone interested in big bores for the AR platform should check out the .458. You can get them from Rock River or the developer of the round, Marty Ter Weeme. (Be prepared to wait for the customs from Marty, at least a year at last count but worth the wait). Scope is a 1x to 4x Vector Optics with illuminated red or green reticles. This puppy puts 300 to 405 grain projectiles down range in the 1200 to 2000 FPS range. You can go with the bigger 500 and 600 grain projectiles in sub sonic and use cans to lower the sound.... I'm looking for someone else in the area to join me in the big bore ARs.

About the size of a quail so no.....I wouldn't spend the time to hunt them. I have seen on that I could positively identify. Dove is the only bird I hunt now. I will shoot a crow if I ever get an opportunity, mean, nasty birds.

I'm in big trouble if .40 S&W is discontinued because its not "popluar" No fears rdl, .40 S&W is going to be around a long time. 1911s in calibers other than .45 are becoming more popular so you may have gotten in on one of their first attempts. Springfield Armory makes a great pistol. How did it make its way to you? That might provide some info on the history of the pistol. The Champion is considered one of the better pistols out there. Here are some testing results (albeit in .45) against the likes of Les Baer and Rock River Arms. http://www.gunblast.com/1911_ShootOff.htm I think Springfield replaced the Champion with the "loaded" series.

Damn! It was a great little track! In my work and travels over the years I have been to many great little tracks. There is another one just north of the I40/I81 split towards the Greenville exit if I recall that has great races. There is the little one in Seymour, think it was like 441. Even Wartburg has a track that they did something cool at. They built it in a bowl of land, one whole side is terraced off so you can just pull up in your car and park overlooking the track! There are several levels. Local racing has a lot of emotion, great drivers mixing it up with new ones or not so good ones and the environment lends to lots of paint swapping! Go see a race and keep the local tracks open! Oh yeah, my thanks to Ryan Newman for winning me this weeks office pool! I now have some discretionary dollars to spend! Racing been very very goot to me.

If you can't find anyone in the Metro area, Sam at Complete Gun Shop in Gallatin can do it for you. 308 S Water Ave Gallatin, TN 37066 (615) 206-0075

If you can bring yourselves to do so....go to a local track and watch some racing. Atomic near Knoxville, Fairgrounds in Nashville, there is a little track with great action when they can keep it running in Carthage, TN. Another good one is Highland Rim off I-65 near between Greenbrier and White House. Then multiply that action by a factor of 20!

What? New one on me.

You could check with Joe at Hero Gear up the hill in Winchester.
-
Snipe Real bird, real season to hunt them. Real HARD to find.

Why do you think the antis are doing so well? They know the options too!
-
I like that collection! He has some I want to try in the lower cal stuff.

Tennessee is a "friend to friend" state. If you are legally qualified to own a handgun you can buy it from another friend who MUST be a resident of Tennessee also. That part is all good. My concern in your statement is you bought it at a gunshow but you don't state you filled out a form 4473 which you probably would have thought of as registration. The concern is being covered on another thread called "Straw Purchase". If a dealer met you outside and sold you the gun then he is in big trouble. This is part of the Gun Show loophole that anti's like to throw in our faces. Myself, if you and another TN resident decided to conduct business your good to go. Perhaps you want to clarify the details. (or maybe you don't want to...)

Poking holes Any caliber, if you like it and put the right bullet combination on it can and will kill a deer. Like I said previously, my son knocked one down this year with a .223 Rossi single shot, 55 grain Remy PSPs. I have shot deer and coyte with my .340 mag and there is just not that much difference from my 30-06. The reason I have it is because frankly I can! Also because I can change the bullets to TSX or Nosler Partition or Hollow Point and do as much or little damage as needed. I can always drop down the speed and bullet weight. You can't move up much once your locked into .20 calibers. Muzzle loaders are .45 and .50 caliber for a reason. They work. All the reasoning above is good and valid and the OP wanted opinion. He's sure getting them. Now where is that .458 Socom ammo, I'm feeling the need to make holes.!
