Its actually near my birth place! I was hatched on Andrews Air Force Base as my father was serving his country as a Marine and was posted to the White House detail for a while. I decided to make my appearance at that time instead of waiting for mother to get her butt back to Tennessee! Its funny too, but for my city/state of birth on all the background checks I have always replied, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland and they accept it as a city!

Any muzzleloaders in the house?
Rightwinger replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Well now is not a good time to post it and get full value. If he can hold on to it till late summer when everyone starts getting the itch for upcoming season he may well get that much out of it. Gun shops, pawn shops, traders posts are all full of muzzle loaders and the older ones with the old caps technology just don't hold any value when you can get a brand new one at Academy or Bass Pro for that much or less on sale! Gonna be a rough road to hoe. I got my son a 50 cal muzzle loader and a Bushnell Scope combo for under 200 last year and that was with the new 209 ignition chamber. Sorry to break the bad news to you and your friend TDR. Here is a new Traditions muzzle loader similar to what I got last year on sale for 150 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_55486_425010001_425000000_425010000_425-10-1 -
Manly 10 year olds say: Nothing knocks em down like the mind numbing power of the .223 Nosler Partition! It's bullet placement as stated above and often fellas!

As far as reblueing? You can buy the solutions and give it a bath yourself but look around and see if you can spring for a smith to do it in a full immersion bath with quality salts. You'll see better results. Of course if you got it naked, you could dura coat it!

The best thing I have seen was a cloth...yep, cloth, wheel on a grinder! They use a steel wool wheel to polish and a cloth wheel to remove blue! Put a polishing compound on the wheel and let er rip, bare metal in seconds Available at midway. I have one of the steel wool wheels on my ginder and all old guns get smoothed up of surface pits or rust with it nicely. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=968247 http://www.midwayusa.com/browse/BrowseProducts.aspx?tabid=8&categoryid=13144&categorystring=649***8828***&pageNum=1

Sounds like a nice place but its near all those damn people! The sprawling metropolis of Westmoreland will likely have to endure my presence, minus hunting trips and excursion to DC to MARCH!

Wrinkles in your "evil black shirt" minus 1 SBR and single point release with multiple mags ready to go...plus a crapload! Nice stick there Uker!

I hope this comes to fruition. I'm willing to make the trip, especially if anyone wants to share the drive/gas. Where ya at Bronker, Jcochrane, TDR, Musicman, Kahrman!!!

Benchmade and Gerber are the favorites.

Other factors will help you remain un-distracted. If your running your tumbler, you can't hear anything anyway! I couldn't play my MP3 player as the bass speaker is sitting on the same bench I use to weigh out charges and the Dillon scale is so sensitive that it will jump in time to the beat, so no music in the background while throwing charges either. Generally the only talking going on is if my son is participating and I am describing what I'm measuring, weighing or the process of sizing or seating, etc. Its good fairly quiet time, especially when I'm alone.

That would be a nipple. Standard caps. The move to 209s has really improved muzzle loading. Fewer misfires as your pumping a lot more energy through the flash hole with 209s than standard caps. Maybe he might think about separating it into rifle and scope and posting them or asking around. He might get more for it. The scope is what is more valuable to a buyer now. I know its easy to "give away" other peoples stuff, but you might talk to WestWindmike about the rifle and have your buddy get more satisfaction from a give away on the rifle and just sell the scope for financial. I'll say now, I'll give him 25 for the rifle and just give it to WestWind for our young friend who is getting into shooting, should he decide to go that route. Just tossing an idea around. -

Its pretty simple. If it has a nipple at the rear of the chamber, that's for standard percussion caps to "slip" on over that hole. If it has a sunken cavity, about the size of a pea, that is for the 209 shotgun primer to be inserted in. -
UTE2 owner here. Same same, love the rifle

Not familiar with that model TDR but the loading port looks like it would use standard caps and not 209s so that might drag it down a bit too. The newer muzzle loaders are all going to the larger 209 shotgun ignitors. -
And what was that we are going to see Poak?

You ain't never gonna see Wayne Co unless you get these priorities in life worked out Bronker

I would think he could get 150 for it. Used ones that are not Thompson Centers can be found for 50 to 75 about this time of year. Here is a Black Diamond on Gunbroker, "gently used". $169.00 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=121849683 -
And don't get distracted! No phone conversations, no watching the game. If you have to do something else, find a logical stopping point and stop! I generally tell the wife I'm going to be reloading so she will not expect me till I'm done. And don't try to do to much in a sitting. You'll get rushed and then make mistakes. Do them in batches. 20 to start would be fantastic.

So you got some time on your hands boys!

I have had my kids with me at Stones River twice and they never asked a thing about them. Wouldn't have provided it anyway.

Same here. We get out there and start feeding again and maybe coyote hunting and walk around a bit if there isn't much activity. It wasn't a shed but my brother found a dead buck with a nice rack. I boiled it out for him. Could have been a wounded deer that wandered on to our farm or he might have died of old age and exposure. His teeth looked pretty old.

Put a white sheet over you and receiver next time so you can see what your doing but it doesn't leave the dimension. That or a large box you can get the lower in while working on it.
