Agree with your last point here. That said, it certainly does appear to me that we are increasingly becoming not a nation of laws, but of something else entirely. Congressional representation for DC certainly seems unconstitutional to me, but what the hey...the Constitution, it's only a piece of paper, right? I'm definitely not saying that that is what you're saying, P. Stegall...it is increasingly what a lot of lawmakers seem to be saying. OMO, YMMV.

Perhaps because he (Mr. Pepe) can dish it out, but he can't take it?

CNN News Teen vanishes on way to school Published: 2/22/09, 12:00 PM EDT By Emanuella Grinberg CNN (CNN) - Last Friday the 13th was supposed to be a special day for 14-year-old Amber Leeanne DuBois. She left her home in Escondido, California, around 7 a.m. for school with a check in hand, a down payment on a baby lamb that she was going to raise and care for as part of her Future Farmers of America class. It was a day that she'd been looking forward to for more than a year, her family says. But she never made it to school and hasn't been heard from since, prompting authorities to launch a massive search for the missing teen. Agreed. I don't like the curfew, and I don't like the dodge around "what's-a-bar?" But if it gets half a loaf--for now, I'll take it. We can get the rest of the loaf next time around if necessary. Of course, "don't drink if you're carrying" makes the best sense of all. But that would be too easy for most politicians to understand.

Gee...me neither.

Charles Dickens saw this in the nineteenth century: 'Are there no prisons?" 'Plenty of prisons,' said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.'And the Union workhouses.' demanded Scrooge. 'Are they still in operation?' 'Both very busy, sir.' 'Oh. I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,' said Scrooge. 'I'm very glad to hear it.' 'Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude,' returned the gentleman, 'a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?' 'Nothing!' Scrooge replied. 'You wish to be anonymous?' 'I wish to be left alone,' said Scrooge. 'Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don't make merry myself at Christmas and I can't afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the establishments I have mentioned-they cost enough; and those who are badly off must go there.'--A Christmas Carol

Trial balloon perhaps? This is only in Illinois at the moment, although I am pretty certain this has been introduced in other states in the past, and when nowhere?

West Allis man not guilty in open carry gun case

From the article linked in the original post: I wonder if the civil-rights-violation lawsuit that follows will change anything? Good outcome! -
Speaker Kent Williams speaks out on new gun proposals
Falcon1 replied to waynesan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I think most of the folks in government know that very well. But, to paraphrase Jeffrey Snyder in "A Nation of Cowards," the random havoc caused by murderers, rapists, and thugs is less of a threat to them than an armed populace prepared to defend themselves. Here is a link for those who would like to read it: http://www.rkba.org/comment/cowards.html -
J. C. Watts from OK, if we can convince him to run? Don't know about his Second Amendment stance; but if it isn't good, I'm sure someone will school me. Harold Ford, Jr., would be better from a Second Amendment standpoint than our current Commander-in-Chief.

Uh... the Holt Bill has been 'slipped in' to Stimulus bill?

Too true, I fear. One would think, however, that that is what Congressional staffers are for.... -
Uh... the Holt Bill has been 'slipped in' to Stimulus bill?
Falcon1 replied to Humble's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I do understand that, the way the bill was created in pdf format, it may not be easily searched with search tools (imagine that!). The Gun Owners of America site does express concerns over medical provisions of HR1, but does not have any references I found to ammunition concerns.... http://gunowners.org/ -

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=111_cong_bills&docid=f:h1pp.txt.pdf I just searched the GPO pdf for the terms "ammunition" and "Blair Holt." The Adobe search tool did not find those terms in the over-1400-page document, for what that is worth. -
I noticed that the date on mine was the date of my renewal, not the date of initial issue. I sent a furious email to my NRA F-rated state representative, Kent Coleman (one of Jimmy Naifeh's minions)--no response. I sent an upset email to my NRA A-rated state senator, Jim Tracy, and got two replies: one agreeing that it was outrageous and a second stating that he was going to be a co-sponsor of the Senate bill to make these records confidential.

Kent Williams stripped of GOP affiliation
Falcon1 replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My understanding is that they love him in his district, at least that is what the Tennessean reported the Carter County GOP leader intimated. The county leader stated he understood why the state party did what they did, but that the local Republicans were pleased with Williams and wish the state leadership had consulted them about their feelings toward Williams before ousting him. Whether this is simply the warm afterglow of "favorite-son-done-good" or something more substantial, I have no idea. -

Thanks for the clarification! I was off of the forum for a month or more while my computer was being rebuilt. -
Smokey Mountains or other National Park
Falcon1 replied to waynesan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If you are in Tennessee, it will still be illegal, wouldn't it? It is illegal by Tennessee law to carry in a park run by local or state government; by extension, since the federal rule says it must be legal by state laws, I don't think it is legal even with the rule change. TCA 39-17-1311? -
Because the First Amendment to the Constitution gives them the right to...oh, wait, that can't be it, because they think the Second Amendment is meaningless. It must be something else.... BTW, has anyone done a search to see how many, if any, of their staff members have permits? What about other "anti-" media types?

I fear the old Chinese curse is coming into its own: "May you live in interesting times." -
