I have a Midwest Industries rail I used on my last build. I don't remember the length, but I have been very happy with it. I think it may be only a 12" rail. I had read some reviews that the were not as sold as some of the other options, but mine has no play or give to it. When the time comes for another build, I will probably buy another MI. It may not be the last, greatest, whizbang thing out there. However, the price is reasonable, and it gets it done.

What is significance of "JM" Stamped on Marlin 30-30 Barrels?
dats82 replied to Sidewinder's topic in Long Guns
It's kind of like a "24K" stamp in a gold bar... It's what you want. -
Pretty cool video. How did you have it mounted?

Emphasis on "deck." One of my good friends worked in an outdoor power equipment store here local, and one of his favorite stories is about a very nice lady calling in with a question about her mower. The conversation started something like this, "I've got a 15 HP Murray with a 42 inch dick, I mean dock! I I I mean deck!" My buddy could barely keep it together to be able to finish the phone call. Needless to say the lady was a little flustered.

"Your next meal will be served through a small hole in a cell door"

That's excellent. -
Great choice. I carry an LCP nearly everyday. Last time I shot it, I pulled it out of my pocket on a whim. When it went bang, there was a puff of pocket lent that flew out of the gun. I generally try to keep it cleaned out, but it was nice to know that even with it being kind of gummed up with pocket lent, it would still go bang. If you're looking for holster options, mine rides in a Bianchi model 152. It works great, was not expensive, and has held up well.

Well, ya'll talked me into it; I'll pick up this one.

I'm not recoil sensitive, but I've never shot a 10mm. I'm about 6'3" and 235 lb. I've shot 44mags and hot 45LC without issue; I'm more concerned if this round out of the short barrel will have enough energy to it to get the job done should the need arise.

I have the opportunity to buy Glock 29 with tritium sights and 3 mags for $400. I have inspected the gun, and it is in like new condition. I know this a good deal, but I'm not a huge Glock fan. Nothing at all against them, I just get tired of all the Glock hype and the exorbitant price of most of them. My question is if it will fit the function for which I want right now. I had initially planned to get a big bore revolver; 44 mag or 45 LC. I am looking for something to carry while hiking or fishing to provide some back up for bears or hogs. Is a 10mm from this short barrel appropriate for that? Thank you for your thoughts.

What's all this talk about cleaning guns? In all seriousness, I think it is overrated. I bore snake mine every now and then, but I almost never clean the action. I will clean rimfires a little more frequently as they tend to get a little more gummy. I was brought up to clean gun every time it was shot, but I have seen nothing that supports reasoning for this to be done. Keep them lubricated, sure, but as long as your not choosing corrosive ammunition, I cannot see reason to support cleaning one after every few hundred rounds. Of the ARs I have right now, which I only have a couple, one has been cleaned once in about 3 yrs just out of boredom. The other was put together last fall, and it has yet to be cleaned. Either way, I have never cleaned the gas key or tube.

I have purchased at least one, maybe two, guns from this seller. I experienced no problems. Everything went smoothly and shipping was quick.

My biggest problem with all this is who gives a shit? I could give a damn if some dude wants to be a woman or marry another dude or whatever. I'm not saying I agree with what they want to do or how they live their lives, but who am I to judge. We are all sinners. As others have said, live and let live. The problem I have with all this junk is, for one, how is this the top news story? You cannot tell me there aren't more important things going on that you have to interview some crazy bastard who wants to be a chick. Secondly, as far as all the gay stuff and what not, when it comes to the point of forcing people to do things against their beliefs and wrecking their lives over it, that is a problem. Bottom line is that people need to get over it, put on some big girl panties  and just get on with living rather than making sure everyone knows you're gay or want to be transgendered or whatever other internal affliction with which you struggle.

Yep, you should grab it. I don't have a 45; I have a 9c. Either way, as others have said, that's a great deal. The only issue I've had with my SR9c was with the magazine disconnect. Over time and probably at least a couple of thousand rounds, it started causing light strikes. It's a easy fix to just take the disconnect out which I have done. I have had no problems since then. I am also certain that, if I were to send it to Ruger, they would take care of it.

I'm jonesing for one of their offerings in a centerfire. Don't know which caliber I would prefer; leaning toward a 44 right now.
-
Thanks, I don't get to use it nearly enough.

Yeah, you should get one. My friend went with me, and he is sold on them now as well. Shooting the shorts out of them is just too much fun. The cycle great, and it feels like you're shooting a suppressor. For the price of these guns, I can't believe I have not bought one before now. I still love my 10/22's, but this thing, especially with the shorts, is just pure joy.

I have been eyeing the Henry lever guns for some time now. I have a Marlin 336 30-30 and have had a 39a. I did not really like the 39a, so I sold it. Since then, I have been wanting a Henry. I pulled to trigger and bought a Henry Frontier model from Bud's over a month ago, but because of the winter storm and my work schedule, I was not able to take delivery until today. This particular offering is the blued 20" octagon barrel, painted receiver, and gold inlay branding. I am very happy with this rifle. For the price of these rifles, the fit and finish is amazing. The stocks are beautiful pieces of walnut. These rifles are made in America. There are no warning billboards on it, and there is no safety, as a lever gun should be. The action is smooth and was completely reliable during my short range session this morning. It shot about 200 LR and about 50 shorts with no malfunctions what so ever. I did not really check the rifle for accuracy, but I was able to ring a 14 inch plate at 100 yrds consistently and without difficulty. To this point, I can say this rifle is as advertised and is deserving of the plethora of the raving reviews that are found about these guns. It will not be my last Henry lever gun. Sorry for the grainy cell phone pics...

I would consider a fungal infection as a possible diagnosis as well. If it does not get better soon with the antibiotics, an antifungal may be in order. You could try some topical stuff like Lotrimin to see if that would help. If there is an infective process, you would rather avoid steroids. It might help the symptoms, but it would hinder your ability to clear infection.

I agree with Caster. If the range is cold, don't touch the weapons. That has been the rule at any public range I have visited. Even shooting on private land with people know really well, I think it is not only a safety issue, but it is also courtesy not to be messing with stuff while people are down range. The guy was probably just making friendly conversation by asking about your gun, he probably wasn't interested in having you "show" him something about it. By asserting that he was a range officer else where, that might have been a little douche, but that does not negate the fact that he was correct in that you should not be handling weapons on a cold range. If you don't like that idea of that, you should find some private land to shoot on without random people around.

I'm not a fan of the 17 HMR. I had one that I toyed with for a while, and for me, it fit in a niche that was not there. If you want more punch, get a .223 or a .243. However, it's my opinion that every boy needs a shotgun. Perhaps a .410 or 20 ga single shot or pump gun would be in order.

They studied those in Cherokee who received the payment versus those who did not, but couldn't a similar study be done with those in society at large who are already receiving assistance, e.g. welfare, versus those who don't. Essentially, that is what welfare is, guaranteed money. I do not understand how giving people money will drive people out of poverty. Isn't that what a minimum wage attempts to do? Yet, people who make minimum wage are still at the bottom of the food chain and still in poverty. Some of the people of Cherokee got a little bit ahead because of the extra money, but if everyone received the money, then it is no longer extra money, it is the norm. You could make the point that will raise the norm of the quality of living. However, if you consider minimum wage increases, which effectively raise the norm, it is evident that raising the norm of income will not raise the norm of the quality of living, everyone remains equal, and those at the bottom will remain at the bottom. I don't know. There must be something to all this. It was devised by people who went to much more prestigious and intelligent schools than me and my modest public education.

That magazine base plate is sweet! I love how they camouflage it to make it look like a battery pack. In all seriousness, I would buy one if presented with the right deal on one. Let us know how she (?) runs.

As a health professional, I tell my patients that about the best thing they can do for their health is to stop smoking. Congratulations to all you folks who have quit. I know it is not easy to quit; in fact, it's possibly the hardest thing some of you all have ever done. My father smoked for forty some odd years, and he is certainly paying the price now. I know he would have stopped long before he had to if were something that is easily done. I used smokeless tobacco for the better part of the past 12 years, but I laid it down on January 1 of this year. There are some days that I just avoid going to the store, because if I did, I would probably not have the willpower to keep from buying a pouch. The physiologic addiction is long gone by now, but I'm not sure the psychological addiction will ever stop. Again, congratulations to you all.

Certainly not as impressive as some of the other works here, but I figured I would share a couple of recent small projects. My wife is really the project manager on most of our little projects around the house. She finds stuff on Pinterest that "we" should do, which of course translates into, "Honey, I want you to do this for me." If you other gentlemen don't know what Pinterest is, consider yourself lucky. This is a "rustic" bedside table from old pallet wood, and I made the lamp from an old wine bottle. Made a little rack for our dog leashes and such from some of the same pallet.
