  1. She's a woman; therefore, she has the right to change her mind... And do crazy things that make no sense.
  2. Thank you, sir. I had to ask a photographer friend of mine what composition is. By the way, while I wish I could claim it, the avatar is not my car. I had an uncle that was killed in a logging accident, and this is his car. It is a '69 Chevelle SS. I never got to go for ride in it while my uncle was alive. My cousin asked me to ride to the funeral with him in it, but I couldn't do it. That is the only time I have ever seen the car driven, and the only time the car has been rained on since it was restored. My cousin still has the car, so I am sure I will take him up on that ride at some point.
  3. I'll play along. I am not sure I even qualify as an amateur, but here are a few I took while in San Francisco and surrounding area last October. These were all taken by some hand me down point and shoot cannon camera. I wish I had a better camera, but that item will remain on the wish list for a while.
  4. Hang around the counter a little longer, and you'll get the see the tire kickers drop the mags on the floor.
  5. If I had to pick one experience in my life that has formed who I am and what makes me tick now, it would have to be when I was 8 yrs old, and my father lost his job. Even though I was young, I was still perceptive enough to understand that my family was struggling. I started doing any type of labor job for which people would pay. I raked leaves, mowed yards, washed cars, etc. This time was hard, but I would not trade the lessons I learned for all the riches in the world. From the time I was 8, I have always worked and had some type of job. Given my current school situation, a job is not really feasible at the moment. However, I still hold firm to the adage that anything worth having is worth working for. I have gotten to where I am in life by working hard and not giving up. On the other hand, I cannot say there is a defining point where I decided what I wanted as a career. I have always been interested in science, though I do not know why. My family is full of engineers of various capacities, but I decided to go toward life sciences. Life has always been more intriguing to me than some type of machine, and I can honestly say after experiencing gross anatomy of both humans and animals, it is my firm opinion that we are all marvels of engineering devised by a supreme being.
  6. My parents aren't real gun savy, but they were going to buy me some ammo last Christmas. They went in the Outpost and told the man behind the counter what type of guns they were buying it for and told them just for target shooting. One of the guns was a .38 revolver. The guy behind the counter told them they could get either a .38 special or a .38 super, and they were the same thing except that the super is just more powerful. Thankfully, they just bought the .38 special. After Christmas, my Dad was asking me about it and if what the man had told them was in fact true. I made sure Dad was not confused between super and +p, and he was certain the man was talking about super as he had put a box of it on the counter. At that point, I realized I would probably never go back in there for anything. This story would not surprise me if it had occured at Wal-Mart, but I feel this type of misinformation is unacceptable at a dedicated gun store.
  7. It is such a shame. It is a beautiful state, but it is occupied by idiots and run by worse. I have family that moved out there about 25 yrs ago with the military, and I guess they got brain washed or something and decided to stay. Even though they are my family and I love them dearly, their political views are just sickening.
  8. I have been in a couple of situations that I was glad I had a gun, but thankfully, I have never needed my gun. If you want the details that is fine, but for me to type it out, it would probably would not impress you much. Usually when someone is sitting the fence like this, there are two things I tell them. (1) It only takes one time for you to need a gun a not have, and you will either be dead or wish for the rest of your life that you had been able to defend yourself or the ones you love. (2) It is like wearing your seatbelt. We don't need to debate over wearing a seatbelt; countless lives have been saved by them. I have never needed my seatbelt, but I wear it everytime I get in a vehicle. It only takes one time of not wearing it for your life to be completely shattered. In my humble opinion, that is as true for guns as it is seatbelts.
  9. My buddy has one of those portable stands with a rock chucker on it, and it seemed plenty stable when I was messing with it. I wasn't really loading anything, but they are heavier at the base than the picture would appear. I am a big fan of do it yourself and building stuff, but I think it would be near impossible to build something of the same size out of wood and have it to function as well. If you are going a little bigger, then obviously it would be a little more reasonable to use wood.
  10. Something like this may be an economical way to get you there in the meantime. plumcrazy ar-15 lower & slide fire stock free ship : AR15 Parts at GunBroker.com Not sure how well the poly would hold up under much rapid fire, but when you are out of school, rolling in the dough, and spending $15k on something to go full auto, what would be another $200 to replace the lower?
  11. So you can honestly say that you had to use algebra and trig to modify your AR, that is awesome.
  12. Here is my rather simple black rifle. Nothing fancy about it, but I think I like it that way. I think the only thing I would like to do to it at this point is put short rail on the float tube to provide a better mount for the bipod and some better glass would always be good.
  13. A stroke sounds likely from what you described, but a severe inner ear infection can present much the same. Either way, if he were my dog, a trip to the vet would be in store before I completely wrote it off as a stroke. If it is a stroke, you may be comforted by the fact that he is probably not in any pain. Generally, strokes are not painful. The suffering is from the disability that the pt is left with if it is a survivable stroke. Best of luck to you, sir. I know this is a difficult time and a hard thing to deal with. I'll go ahead and say a prayer as I think pets have a special place in heaven.
  14. That law is a little bit subjective, and I have never heard of anyone receiving a citation of such. The tires are not completely covered, but it did not seem to bother the LEOs that particular night or the state trooper that pulled me over at another time.
  15. I do not have anything now, but here are a few toys I have had in the past. I learned really quick that it is much better to have a toy to play with and something else to drive during the week. Therefore, most of my mountain vehicles have been a bunch of junk, but they were always fun. Most of these are just poser pics. We were never good at taking pictures. First is a 1982 Datsun truck. It just looked illegal. Coming home from wheeling in Cowan one day, a couple of Franklin Co's finest decided to pick it over for about a half an hour and finally came up with a tail light out. Next is a 1972 CJ5. It was pretty rough when I got it. I ended up giving an add-a-leaf and rebuilting the 304. It had a 304, 3 spd, limited slip front, welded rear, and 33s. It is kinda a long story about how I cam about this next one, but when I got it, it was a stocker 1987 Cherokee with the injected 4.0 and auto. As pictured, it has about 5 inches under, welded rear, and 35s. It was the most comfortable riding jeep I have ever had and always went where I wanted it to go. This last one is not mine, but I did a ton of work on it. It is a 1987 YJ with the 4.2 that was stock when we started and ended up with 35s, a spring over, add-a-leaf, 4.10s f&r, locked front, welded rear, dropped transfer case, and lengthened rear shaft. The last couple of pics were an accident in the Tim's Ford lake bed at winter pool. At this point, total lift was about 8 inches, lockers, and 35s.
  16. Those are some good looking rides. Superman, where do you ride these days?

    opinion on a 44mag

I have a good friend who swears by a 45 long colt over a 44 mag. This is a little bit of a long read, but he sites this as his source why the 45 is superior over the 44. I have a somewhat basic understanding of physics, but it makes sense to me. Linebaugh's Custom Sixguns - The .45 Colt - Dissolving the Myth, Discovering the Legend The same friend owns a few guns he had customized by this smith, so he my be a little bit partial. Either way, it gives you something else to consider in your decision. For what it's worth, my vote would go to a Ruger Redhawk in either a 44 or 45. Given its intended use and the potential use in a harsh environment, it would be hard to talk me out of the reliablilty of a revolver in favor of an automatic that you have to be conscious of how clean it is, what ammo is used, and whether or not you will have a sufficient grip for it to cycle at any given time.
  18. You are correct. However, keep in mind that if you are ever admitted to the hospital and you leave AMA (against medical advise), your insurance will most likely not pay for the visit, and you will be stuck with the bill. You can refuse any treatment while you are there, but you would be ill advised to leave if your Dr. wishes to keep you.
  19. That is a little out of line from my experience and the experience of others I have heard. Typically, they are very quick and most helpful, and I have not heard of anyone charged for repairs. I guess sense this is not really a repair need, the service may be different. I have not heard of anyone using their service department in this capacity, so I am not sure what to make of it. I hope it turns out well.
  20. My 870 will do it. Some buddies and I were messing around with some throwers and slinging 5 birds at once. I was using my 870, and the other two had automatics. The short of the story is that I was the only one to get to all 5 birds before they went down. I know there is more to the equation than the gun, but the idea that I could shoot a pump faster and more accurate than my friends with far more expensive autos was both rather suprising and entertaining.
  21. Yeah, I was totally kidding. I own none of the aforementioned mentioned guns, but it seems someone always has to throw that into these discussions. I just figured I would just go ahead and get that part out of the way. I completely agree, the only solution to this is using a holster. I do feel sorry for the children in this story. Hopefully, others will learn, though I doubt it
