I agree with this. People bitch and moan about their marriage all the time, but I don't know what I would do without my wife.

This made me smile, but it's painfully true. I will never forget this lady in Cade's Cove who stopped her car in the middle of the road and literally ran toward the bear to take a pic. Asside from the traffic issue, please realize that these are still wild animals, and they very well could eat you.

You should look through the carry prohibited locations for that area. That will give you a heads up before you get there. This list is likely not comprehensive. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/forum/55-carry-prohibited-locations/ Also, as you probably know, if you have a permit that is recognized in whatever state you are in, you can carry in the national park, but you are still not permitted to carry in the park buildings. Thanks for visiting our state, and congratulations to the two of you!

So how's this thing coming along? I am curious to see the finished product.

I've heard they are good eating. I wouldn't know first had, but that is what I've been told.

I have come to the conclusion that guns in the South are way overpriced.

Channel 5 Nashville Story To Air Thursday
dats82 replied to Jimbo100's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I can see both sides of the story, but it will tend to side with the farm owner and officer. All too often, someone decides to develop land in the county. People move in thinking they are getting there little dream country get away to retire on. Then, when a farmer or the owner of the adjacent undevelop land does something they don't like, they bitch and complain and have them shut down. I do not know the location of this "community" nor do I know the specific laws or ordinances for that area. However, from the sound of the story, they are in the county, and their actions are not in violation of any specific ordinance. If that is indeed true, my reaction would be to tell them to go kick rocks. -
I clicked on this thinking what in the world is the "frist buck." I see you mean "first buck." My curiousity is settled, carry on.

Nice rifle, but I really like the combo you posted above. I never thought wood would look even close to right on an AR, but that is sharp. In this last picture, I have to ask. Did you clean your floor with photoshop?

Mayor Rogero tours KPD's training facility
dats82 replied to macville's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I became a true believer one day at an indoor range. Somehow, the copper jacket from a bullet came back and hit me in the arm. It did no damage, but it did sting a little through a long sleeve shirt. It did not come from me or the people on either side of me; we were all shooting 22s. As you could imagine, it was sharp and jagged. It could have easily caused a significant eye injury if it just happened to hit in the wrong place. -
Stupid question about a black powder rifle.
dats82 replied to gjohnsoniv's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Before you go loading it to shoot it, make sure it is not already loaded. Many BP guns get loaded, and are only unloaded if they are shot. As a matter of fact, I need to check mine, I bet it is still loaded. -

I've been to ranges that did not require eye protection. I still had some on, but it was not required. -
That's cool. I hope I didn't sound like a smartarse; I was really curious to know what all you had done.

So can you tell us what you did? To my untrained eye, it looks like you changed the grips and trigger. Either way, looks good.

Elderly CC'er defends Internet Cafe
dats82 replied to BlackHawk93's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I did not imply that the guy was unarmed, but I am much less likely to shoot the guy for a bat vs a gun, especially if he is just knocking around computers. The post I quoted was assuming that, because he was with someone who had a gun, he "might have [a gun]" as well. (Please see above, I quoted it again for you). By all means a bat could be a weapon but probably not so much if the guy is all the way across the room. I am also not saying the guy was not justified in shooting the batter; I probably would have too. However, if you take the bat away, and continue with the same logic. Perhaps we'll call it, armed by association. Then, you have just shot an unarmed suspect, who was all the way across the room from you. That might not end very well if you have to explain to twelve other people why you felt this man to be such a threat. Again, I know in this particular scenario, the bat is certainly weapon enough. I was just making the point that you cannot assume that a person might have a gun just because they are with someone who does indeed have a gun. -
You might consider a kholster brand. I understand they have a free period and will return your money with no questions asked if you do not like it. I do not have any of those type holsters, but the next IWB tuckable holster I buy will have "J" hooks on it. You might consider that as well.

Elderly CC'er defends Internet Cafe
dats82 replied to BlackHawk93's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
By this logic, you could almost make a case to shoot any suspicious suspect. I know that is a slippery slope, but that is a poor argument, to shoot someone because they might have a gun. I will say my reason tends to align more with what you and TMF are saying, especially to say that you have to make those decisions under much different circumstances than just us hashing them out on our key boards. If I can try to put myself in that position mentally, I think I would not follow them to the door, but I probably would not stop shooting until they were out of the building BTW, Go State! -
Ran a cross this stove that charges usb and powers light
dats82 replied to klamb5's topic in Survival and Preparedness
It looks like they are not offering the home stove at this time. Or do you see it somewhere with a price? I too would be interested in the home stove. -
I would trade it. I am not a collector either, and to me, a gun I am not going to shoot is worthless. I understand collecting guns as investments and such, but having one gun that you don't shoot and you treat it as a safe queen does not make much sense to me. Even the one gun that I would never part with, my first gun I ever had, I still shoot it from time to time. My father has a couple guns of my grandfather's, and they still get shot. To me, there is no point in having them if I don't get to enjoy them, and for me, that means shooting them.
-
I doubt something is wrong with it. You have to realize this is small gun that is intended to be carried a bunch and shot a little. As far as the mag going in stiff, I would imagine that would get a little easier the more you do it, but if it is going in and is engaging correctly, I would not worry about it. As far as loading the first round, make sure you are not easing the slide forward. Just pull it back and let it slam forward. I think some people call it slingshotting the slide. Also, if it brand new, make sure you clean it good. Many times, they come from the factory a kind of sticky oil stuff in them. I bought an sr22 recently, and while it shot without cleaning it, it really ran much smoother and just felt better shooting after I had cleaned it.

I like what he's saying.

I will say, first off, that I don't watch the news, so my opinion probably does not hold much water. However, it is my understanding that if the person is a juvie, the media is not allowed to show them. I know the last time I was at my parents and I actually did watch the Nashville news, there were an increasing number of juvie suspects. That could have something to do with it but probably does not completely explain it.

My door doesn't have a peep hole, and do you really think the cops are going to have a conversation with you through your door when they think you are an attempted murder? That could be a scene in a comical cop movie. I could just see these guys itching to bust down a door say, "Hang on, Spanky. He's going to "call it in" real quick to make sure we are the people we never said we were." Not going to happen.
