Aren't criminals, and their activities what initiated the need, and spawned "neighborhood watch" programs? Big deal in our area is vehicle pulls up to your house middle of the afternoon, when most people are at work. Some one gets out, knocks on front door. some one answers, BS question and off they go to the next place. If no response they go around to the back, kick the door and make off with goodies. Just last Tuesday, car pull into my driveway, magnetic stickers proclaiming a national insurance chain on the door. Guy goes to the front door, and knocks, takes out a camera and takes a picture and heads around back. Meets the wife and her 20 gauge and hops in the car and off he goes. She had just finished an hour long IV infusion and was where she could see him walking around the house, and decided to arm herself and ease out the back door. She called it in, 18 minutes for an officer to arrive. Our officer from across the street was up the hill in 2. 2 minutes is a long time if something is going wrong. Think the guy had good intentions? I personally see a need for neighborhood watch.

Zimmerman Trial: Verdict Reached!
Worriedman replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
And there is any evidence to support that theory, that Zimmerman chased him down, that a fit 17 year old could not outrun a pudgy "pussy"? If Treyvon was in fear, the adrenalin would have allowed him to get to his home a lot quicker than Zimmerman, no way the young man could not out quick the old guy. -

Strategically thinking, he would have had a lot better chance of defending his little brother behind a locked door, with the heat on the phone (if that were the possible intent to confront). -

What I do not get,and have not since day one, is advice from a parent to their child, that instead of continuing on to their home, (which was very near, seeking safety and sanctuary), that they should in a dark place, under circumstances where they have no idea who or what the other person is, (except they are positive that they are NOT Law Enforcement as they would declare) turn and confront the unknown instead of seeking refuge that is available only seconds away? Really? -

Of course you are correct here. That is why guns are manufactured and sold. The old saw, "God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal" is as valid today as it was when it was coined. Pussies, women and the weak of all types are allowed to bear arms in some places, and where they are, it is endemic to understand that your actions have repercussions. I drive away from mad people on the road ways, I walk away from mad people when I can at Wal-Mart. I will always try to be non confrontational, but that does not mean that as my 87 year old Aunt leaving the grocery store in Jackson TN at 1:00 on a Tuesday I may not be beaten down by a thug and forced to defend my life. -

How about we teach our children the old line from Robert Heinlein: “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.†In those States that allow carry for self defense, teach your children to not assault individuals who may be legally armed, the results just may be death. -

Do you remember the Joe Horn shooting in Pasadena, TX, where the next door neighbor shot the two Black Columbians who were leaving his neighbors house with the swag they stole, while he was on the phone with 911. He was told to NOT fire on them, and there was an unmarked car with a police officer sitting in the front yard, and he told them (dispatch) wait a minute while I shoot these robbers and kill them? He was "No Billed" by Grand Jury, and was, and is immune from civil suits. Same actors, NAACP, SPLC in front of cameras, calling for his head. He was found innocent, and they could not touch him. See any civil suits filed against him? http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/pasadena-news/article/Joe-Horn-cleared-by-grand-jury-in-Pasadena-1587004.php -
Zimmerman Trial: Verdict Reached!

He will have lots of money when he gets through suing the lettered media for breaching his rights by falsely editing the 911 calls, and the win he will have against FL for the improper prosecution. And, according to the law, he will be immune from any civil (monetary, civil RIGHTS are a different thing) suits, immune, means he can not loose any money to anybody regarding this case from this point forward. Yeah, fools can sue him, and the State will protect and collect for him. Those are just simple facts. Being there is proof that DOJ has already involved themselves in illegally attempting to gin up the case, I would not be surprised to see West kick their hinneys in the end as well via suit. -

Boy, you know a lot more than I do about civil suits, and here I was thinking that was handled at a State level. Civil Rights are in fact a Federal thing, but money to a family over a shooting is normally done on a State by State basis. I will be digging big hole now... -
Zimmerman Trial: Verdict Reached!
Worriedman replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If the accused can factually establish pre-trial (civil suit) that his or her use of deadly force occurred under the circumstances outlined in Section 776.012 or Section 776.013,(stand your ground or self defense) the State of Florida is legally and procedurally barred from further prosecution in the matter. In the event that a civil action is brought against the person who used qualifying deadly force, a court must award reasonable attorney’s fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income, and all expenses incurred in the defense of the case. Now that Zimmerman has had his self defense use of deadly force proved out by a not guilty verdict, he is immune. The procedures for asserting prosecutorial immunity under the “Stand Your Ground†law are outlined in Peterson v. State, 983 So. 2d 27, 29 (Fla. 1st DCA 2008), a Florida First District Court of Appeal decision. The Petersen decision definitively established that Section 776.032 was created by the Florida Legislature to establish a “true immunity†and not merely an affirmative defense. Best cure for stupid is charging them all the cost, and that is straight forward handled by statutory law in FL. -

The Rev. Sharpton is getting ready for a suit regarding "Civil rights" watching his sputter at the moment, the only reason I would ever tune in MSNBC. Tell you who needs to run is the Prosecution team, they are ready to lynch them now... -
I have not commented (much) on this whole thing, waiting till the evidence is in to see what it presents. I have learned that if you lie to women, they will not forgive that, and the Prosecution lied to them today. de La Rionda told the jury that Zimmerman told his neighbor to tell his wife he had "killed" someone when he asked him to call and tell her that he (Zimmerman) had been taken into custody. That is a patent lie, and will be proven by reading back of testimony. O'Mara will crucify de La Rionda for that lie tomorrow, the jury will not forget it even though the prosecution gets the last word.

I can not remember when I was able to vote "for" anyone on a national level, I have been voting "against" the worst candidate, hoping to forestall the inevitable I suppose. I do not see that getting any better in the near future. I will never again donate time and money to a national party, I will choose the individual and work for those I can, and against those that I have to.

The governor is doing all he can to supplant, dilute, obfuscate, or delay (whatever his office will allow him to do) to keep the average law abiding citizen from being able to have or carry a weapon, seems to be status quo for that ilk.

Murfreesboro DUI Checkpoint Video Making its Way Across the Web
Worriedman replied to wewoapsiak's topic in General Chat
I can see Crockett County from my porch, really. But, I travel all over the State, on business and for my avocation as well, drive a lot of miles each year. I have run across a few badge heavy guys, most of those local officers who were simply poorly trained. Have never had a beef about treatment by State Troopers, they have a wing of the Haywood County Courthouse that should have my name on it as a major contributor over a job I had in Covington one year, they got me three times in a week, took me a minute to realize they mean 55 down there. I have a huge respect for LE, I am so glad there are people with the nads to take on that job, but as such, I hate for an officer to abuse their power. I expect them to know the law and abide by its tenants. Two years ago, I had a Dyer County Deputy inform me that I could not carry my Officer's Model loaded, locked and cocked (safe driving award stop where I informed that I was armed and he asked to see it). I politely asked him to radio a supervisor and ascertain the facts of that assertion, which he did semi under protest. I had a City Officer try to keep my ammo after he unloaded my weapon in Gibson County (on a stop looking for someone else in a vehicle like mine), after talking with the Chief, (who I went to high school with) I got it back. I did not argue or try to be a bad ass in either case, (I have 8 more rounds in the trunk) it does in fact pay to salute the man with the switchblade. The Deputy in this case is going to learn a lesson in procedure, and possibly some others will benefit as well. The kid is still going to be a jerk. Some day he will need a LE Officer to help him out, and the odds they will. I think that I will continue to treat Officers at stops like I would like them to treat me, I am even polite to the the TSA, and that takes a LOT of steeling myself up for, cause I really think their organization is a steaming pile. -
That is spot on leroy, and as usual Oh Shoot is clear thinking as well. In a conversation at the Capital with other leaders of the Tea Party from across TN and Debra Maggart, who was Chairman of the Republican Caucus at the time, (in her last summer in that position) and the rest of the leaders of the Caucus, she flat out said that we as the Tea Party had no where else to go, we could not work with the Democrats, and as such, would in fact take what scraps they as Republicans would toss us. We would be allowed to carry their water on Education and otherwise be seen as their obedient servants and not heard on other issues. Ms. Maggart opined that her main responsibility was to increase the power of the Republican Caucus at all cost, the most important thing was the walk out proof majority, holding power over the Democrats the only thing of import.

I think the liberals/Democrats fear the Tea Party, because they (The Tea Party) are not radical, pick up their trash, and are polite, respectful antagonist who show up and are not Ron Paulbots who can be discharged with ease. Takes much more to disenfranchise and denigrate thoughtful, reasonable folks who wave the Constitution as their mantra as opposed to libertarians who rightly or wrongly, carry a a pro-drug moon-bat persona about. The Republicans are every bit as dismissive of the Tea Party as the Democrats, as they too fear the People's involvement in politics. We are simply supposed to work and pay the taxes and let the elite decide the course we need to take with respect to everything.
