  1. The amendment referenced was NOT passed.  The bill by Green did not substantially change the bill as passed last year either, one may still be terminated for the act of having a legal firearm in their vehicle on company property if there is a stated policy against keeping a firearm in a vehicle, permit or not.
  2. Because she did not play ball with Ramsey, so anything she proposes is administratively kicked to the curb.
  3. Anything by Beavers will NOT be codified into a public chapter.
  4. Pay your $85.00, get the background check and do the fingerprints.  Read the fine print, no guarantee you get the "Pre check" every time.   Plus there are lots of airports that do not have "pre-check" lines, some do not have scanners, so my new titanium knee means I get my cods fondled.   I love it when I check into a small TX airport that has a staff where half of the TSA agents wear those head scarfs and I am checking my EDC and back-up piece.
  5. A Jim Crow law placed on the necks of TN Citizens by the Democrats in 1870 to make sure they could keep the freed slaves defenseless. The whole "but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime." was simply added to give power where it had previously never existed, the previous verbiage being (1796 version) Article 11 Section 26  "That the free men of this State have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defence."  Free men have "Rights", governments are granted "power" by the People that truly make up that government.  If We the People allow government to overstep their bounds, then the shame is on us.
  6. May 12, 2009, 05:45 PM. Alexander voted NAY on Coburn's  Amdt. No. 1067 (Statement of purpose: To protect innocent Americans from violent crime in national parks and refuges.)  He was the only Republican Senator to do so.  When Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe vote for an issue and you vote against it, how Lautenberg do you have to be to be anti-gun?
  7. Not to John, to Beth, that is who you need to convince.  John's statement quoted was in respect to the current bill and amendment, you are the one interjection a generality into the conversation, get on it, would love to see 1309 done away with.
  8. Yes, I think 39-17-1307 might be prudent to keep in mind here... Don't get me wrong, i would love to see it repealed, as I consider it to be unconstitutional, but with the current legislature, there is no chance it will happen.
  9. Well, get you some Ramsey!  I will be on that team, but, you might want to check and see where his PAC is at dollar wise.  He has the backing of Big Business and nobody is going to challenge him in his home district, but by all means form a group, announce your intentions and we will see how that goes.   My vote is Vance Dennis, he is low hanging fruit that can be taken.  Those who have watched the actual machinations of the legislature will know that he is Establishment through and through, and is no supporter of firearms Rights.
  10. I am not a lobbyist, I am a concrete finisher that will get off my hinney and go talk to the legislators on their turf in Nashville, using all my vacation each year to do so.   We (the TFA) have a PAC, with all the legal headaches and troubles that entails, most of the money for that comes from a few people who donate regularly, as they understand that money talks and BS walks.  We do not "lobby", we do donate to legislators who support our agenda.  The Board Members and activist who go to the legislature to advocate on our behalf do so on their own dime, nobody pays for my gas or time, we do not draw a salary, get mileage or meals paid for.  Every dime coming in goes for printed materials, postage or donations to candidates. You want this to pass, call Haslam, Ramsey and Harwell and get them to go along, they tell the rest what to do and what will be allowed. Leadership decides what gets out of committee and onto the floor, if they do not approve of an initiative, it goes nowhere.   This bill has not been "put on notice" in other words, Dennis is not trying to move it forward.  You want to know who in the House will control it, outside of Harwell, (who has never voted for a '2nd Amendment" issue, ever) try Civil Justice Chairman Jim Coley, renowned killer of gun bills, (remember his murder of Campus Carry) see what his take on it is.  Pressure him to put it up for consideration.
  11. Things that legislators say in an election year.   "You can't expect to make a first down every time you snap the ball" "Y'all don't understand how the legislature works, getting a bill passed is like making sausage" "I support the 2nd Amendment"   This was never intended to see the light of day, it was simply put forth to be a résumé bullet point (pun intended) for a very at risk candidate who skimped by in his last primary by 4 votes.
  12. The NRA supported that piece of trash Parking Lot bill last year, they do not always support what is best for us, kind of like their rating for Alexander...
  13. From John Harris:   GUNS IN PARKS!!!! Well, not really. More of TRAPS IN PARKS. I would urge that those interested in this bill look at it carefully before getting too excited or congratulatory. I welcome the advance of legislation to eliminate the ability for local governments to prohibit handgun permit holders from enjoying publicly owned parks while maintaining the capacity to defend themselves and their families. But, I also have to deal with the Tennessee legislature enough that I am always cautiously watching to see when and to what extent they are willing to compromise on our rights. The advance of SB1496 is a step in the right direction but it retains a very dangerous and potentially unconstitutional trap. It is important to know that it was amended. The amendment on the legislation retains a provision of existing law which creates a trap that could easily result in criminal charges against handgun permit holders. That amendment automatically renders these public parks "prohibited places" if any part of the park is being used by a school. Thus, parks which are otherwise open to the citizens could suddenly become prohibited areas exposing handgun permit holders to arrest and criminal charges merely if any school activities are taking place in the park. Consequently, permit holders could be arrested in parks that are otherwise open merely because school students might be using parts of the park for school related sporting events (such as golf, cross-country running, tennis, ball fields) or even organized school activities (such as field trips, nature walks, or end of year parties). This part of the amendment clearly violates Article 1, Section 26 of the Tennessee Constitution which prohibits the Tennessee Legislature from regulating the wearing of arms unless there is a well defined crime prevention basis for the prohibition. No such crime prevention purpose has been identified to support the "school use" prohibition that is retained in the amendment. I would urge those interested in this law to call and ask their own legislators if the parks are in fact automatically closed if any part of the park is being used for any school function. If they answer "no" - press them about the amendment. No matter what their response, try to get them to commit to you that they will remove this provision and pass a clean law without loopholes or risks of criminal prosecution.
  14. Because the supermajority henchmen want to keep control, and the no-intestinal fortitude sheep legislators want to keep their PAC contributions.
  15. It is not really worse, it just keeps the same 39-17-1309 language, the bill as written was just better as it did not have that same language.
  16.   Amendment 1 which states "This subdivision shall not apply if a permit holder is prohibited by § 39-17-1309 from possessing a firearm in or on the grounds of any public park, playground, civic center or other public recreational area."   If a school kid shows up, you would be guilty of a Class E Felony if you were already there. http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=SB1496
  17. Bill was amended to keep the original TCA 39-17-1309 language, which means, it there is school function in the park, it is off limits whether the permit holder is informed or not, said permit holder is guilty of a Class E felony.  Our good friend Kelsey.
  18. Senate version (SB1496) up for vote tomorrow.  Been real quite on the run-up.
  19. Only reason I can see him doing that, is to spend time prepping for a run for the White House...
  20. From last year:   HB0118 is the House version of the Safe Commute law. It was presented by Rep. Faison in House Civil Subcommittee on 2/13. It passed out easily on a voice vote and without any debate from any Republican members of the committee – all of whom had been alerted to the omissions and holes in the bill in advance. What will surprise some people is that the bill does not protect the employee’s job – it only removes some criminal penalties (there may still be possible criminal charges such as criminal trespass). Essentially, the law is a Georgia style law because the employers will retain the ability to fire any employee with cause (that is, deny you unemployment benefits) if you are found to be or are even suspected to have a firearm in your car.   http://tnga.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=269&clip_id=7129   This has been debated Ad nauseam, but the bill passed last year did not provide protection to a permit holder to not lose their jobs, and the changes this year do not either.  Shell game.
  21. Yep, and that is whole point, make as many places off limits as possible.
  22. Uh, as there is no Senate Sponsor, and the spoken rule is that no bill will move in one chamber if it has no chance in the other...   Vance Dennis has been authoring gun bill killing acts since he has been in the legislature, this is no different.  He won his primary by 4 votes last time, and is well known in his district as being a Beth Harwell acolyte.  He and Barret Rich were the instigators that killed the Josh Evans Parking Lot bill years ago.  He never had any intention of getting this passed, it is a fake to the gun guys in his district.
  23. Do not believe a thing that woman says about being for a gun bill.
