  1. What Washington does impacts every factor of our lives. You must not have been affected by the flood personally, or you would know just how broad the relief promised by the Federal Government is, and what little amount of "help" there actually is. Is your home or business in a map marked flood zone? If not you are not eligible for any "help" which in effect is your and your neighbors money being doled back out to you if deemed worthy. We are seeing first hand just how "Catch 22" the FEMA redistribution of wealth is here in Jackson. If you do not live in a floodplain, you can not buy flood insurance. Your homeowners will not pay anything if it was a rising water event and you did not have flood insurance, round and round we go. What we are hearing is that "A 500 year event" is sad, but FEMA does not cover the fact the County or the City failed to keep drainage channels cleaned out, same old "Warshington" doublespeak we always get. Anyone who thinks the Federal Gov. is coming in here on a white horse to "save" the afflicted is a fool. Add to that the coming taxes on your employer supplied health-care benefits, and the control and rationing of health-care itself that is just around the corner, not to mention the move to legitimize illegal immigrants into citizen hood by the millions.... Makes any surmise that Washington does not have a huge impact on our lives disingenuous at best. To the point that Ramsey has a speech impediment, I have no problem understanding what he says, and suggest if you get out amongst the great unwashed in Tennessee, his speech patterns are no worse than the majority of folks who maybe were not educated in the finer schools in our State. Obama is very articulate in his enunciation of the screwing he is giving us, does that make it any more palatable because the delivery is eloquently (to your ears maybe) done? To me that smacks of an elitism that is out of place in todays scramble to save our country from a complete Liberal takeover.
  2. I have met and talked with all of the candidates but Wamp, he has not deigned to come into the TFA meeting at Jackson, nor has Haslam, but at least Haslam did sit down and talk with me twice. Nothing in either conversation led me to think he is anything other than a Lamar Alexander type Rino. McWherter is far too liberal, admitted he is all for gun registration and Obama's health care plan. Thinks the 10th Amendment has no place in todays society. Out of all of them Ramsey is the only one who has a real record of supporting gun rights. Once he gets off the stump speech, he is very real and easy to have a conversation with. He is still a small businessman, and my wife says his wife is the real deal, not the type to put on airs. They made their own way to where they are by working hard. Outside of some who simply do not like any one who is successful as a politician, (guess they were against Regan too if that is a criteria) I have heard no "dirt" on him, and his voting record is sound as a Conservative. He gets my labor, my money and my vote.
  3. I think this needs addressing in the Legislature, if a HCP holder is denied the ability to keep that weapon on their person due to an establishments "Right" to Post, it makes no sense that that holder could not leave their weapon in the vehicle whether a non-HCP holder was present or not, the vehicle being just like a residence for all other purposes. If one can defend against intrusion just like at one's home, it would only seem prudent to allow it to be a safe storage venue, elsewise we have State Law denying the HCP holder the ability to carry if he has a non-HCP holder as a passenger, without putting the holder at risk to violate the law. So much for the "Rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6" rule.
  4. Well, dragging a felon into the mix changes the nature of the conversation. However, I am talking about the average non-ax murdering, bank robbing, rapist type grandma, wife or girlfriend.
  5. OK, give away Probably Cause, does your wife sitting in the car, with the doors locked and no visible weapon constitute "reasonable suspicion"? If so, going to be a lot of very busy LEO's and lawyers.
  6. Are you telling me that a LEO can search a parked car, with a person sitting in it at a store, for no apparent reason? What happened to Probable Cause as a precursor to search and seizure? A woman sitting in the rider's seat talking on a cell phone to the grand baby is a reason to bust in and search? If the weapon is out of sight in a console or glove box, how does the LEO know there is a violation occurring? And as of this year, a non-permit holder can be in a vehicle, with an unloaded long arm, but, with ammo in proximity, just not in a clip, chamber or magazine. Your bare hand does not constitute a clip, chamber or magazine, and by Law, you can keep the ammo close if loose and not inserted in a clip, magazine or in the chamber.
  7. Not trying to be argumentative, but, it appears that there is no difference in your house and your vehicle according to TN State Law with respect to where you are entitled to provide for self defense. There is no mention of the requirement of a permit anywhere in the Public Chapter. http://state.tn.us/sos/acts/105/pub/pc0210.pdf Under Public Chapter 210: AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 11, Part 6, relative to the use of self defense and deadly force. SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-11-611, is amended by deleting the section in its entirety and substituting instead the following: (a) As used in this section: (1) “Curtilage” means the area surrounding a dwelling that is necessary, convenient and habitually used for the family purposes and for those activities associated with the sanctity of a person’s home. (2) “Dwelling” means a building or conveyance of any kind, including any attached porch, whether the building or conveyance is temporary or permanent, mobile or immobile, which has a roof over it, including a tent, and is designed for or capable of use by people. (3) “Residence” means a dwelling in which a person resides either temporarily or permanently, or is visiting as an invited guest, or any dwelling, building or other appurtenance within the curtilage of such residence. (4) “Vehicle” means any motororized vehicle that is self-propelled and designed for use on public highways to transport people or property. ( (1) Notwithstanding the provisions of § 39-17-1322, a person who is not engaged in unlawful activity and is in a place where such person has a right to be has no duty to retreat before threatening or using force against another person when and to the degree the person reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to protect against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful force. (2) Notwithstanding the provisions of § 39-17-1322, a person who is not engaged in unlawful activity and is in a place where such person has a right to be has no duty to retreat before threatening or using force intended or likely to cause death or serious bodily injury if: (A) The person has a reasonable belief that there is an imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury; ( The danger creating the belief of imminent death or serious bodily injury is real, or honestly believed to be real at the time; and © The belief of danger is founded upon reasonable grounds. Section 1 © © Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or serious bodily injury within a residence, dwelling or vehicle is presumed to have held a reasonable belief of imminent death or serious bodily injury to self, family, a member of the household or a person visiting as an invited guest when that force is used against another person, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence, dwelling or vehicle, and the person using defensive force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred. Correct me if I am wrong, but I see nothing in the Public Chapter that requires a permit to avail a Citizen of the coverage of this Law, and, I see no differentiation in a person's home or vehicle, no more duty to retreat put forth regarding your vehicle than at your home or curtilage? It would seem reasonable that if a HCP holder was required to leave his weapon in their vehicle for a short period to satisfy the Law re a posted business, that the weapon is under their control in their vehicle, and not some other person in the vehicle any more so than at their residence.
  8. If possession via proximity were the sole criteria for prosecution , would not a loaded handgun in a home during the permit holder's absence be the same thing if a non-permit holder was present (i.e. wife, girlfriend, parent)?
  9. Needs to be an issue we work on in the Legislature. I find it ludicrous that in a vehicle I own, I can not leave my loaded weapon locked up inside with my wife there. Seems the only time it would be an issue is if she had to use it, and then TN statues say there is no prosecution for defending one's self. If I am licensed to carry, and a posted sign precludes my ability to carry inside someplace I need to be, I can't see the sense in making the wife stand outside the car while I go in, and if you can, you obviously do not know my wife. What do I have to do, take her set of car keys away and make her stand in the rain, snow or heat in a parking lot while I go inside a posted place, (Dr.'s office, school etc.)? As it would be legal to give her a shotgun with an open breech, and let her hold a handful of buckshot, it seems this is a little beyond the pale.
  10. Found it, our Gubernatorial candidate Wamp decided this was not important enough to show up for, he and 5 other Republicans abstained, and 2 voted Yes. All but 1 of TN Democrats voted to support Pelosi on this one. Democrats — Cohen, Y; Cooper, Y; Davis, N; Gordon, Y; Tanner, Y. Republicans — Blackburn, N; Duncan, N; Roe, N; Wamp, X. Y-Yes N-No X-not voting
  11. What is the best way to see the actual votes on this Bill?
  12. To do what? Construction employment is down significantly, there are no manufacturing jobs coming open. Just what is it that Republicans want cheap labor for? With unemployment at the level that it is, and the number of good 'ol American Citizens out of work, just what do we need illegal immigrants to do? I do not know a single Republican who is in favor of allowing more illegals in, and I know several. Maybe back when housing was going strong, or factories being built, but I think that old saw has gotten a little dull as of late.
  13. Depending on who winds up as the Speaker of the House, that may change dramatically next year. Just look at what the move from Naifeh to Williams accomplished. Speaker sets the Committee rosters, does he not?

  15. If you consider the Tea Parties as "political connections" then I guess you are correct there, but I do not believe one has to be a mindless Dem/Rep minion to have a shot at a County or State office. I am seeing ground swell type campaigns that are being very effective this year. As for "name recognition', there are differences now than what the status quo has been. I am involved in a couple of campaigns where the candidate is going against conventional wisdom (no prior political experience), and the local established party "machines", doing it on the cheap and I guess we will just have to see what the results are.
  16. I am ecstatic because I have my guns, both for hunting and protection. I hunt deer because my wife has a serious health problem, and needs a high protein, low fat, very low cholesterol diet, which venison fits very nicely. I have my guns for protection because a lot of good men died to make sure I can, and only a fool would imagine that the personal ownership of firearms is anything other than absolutely necessary to security. I am pleased as punch that the Birthday of this Nation approaches, where we celebrate the actions of men who desired Liberty, and bet all their goods and their very lives to bring it into existence. I am happy as a pig in slop that I can tell anyone who wishes to belittle my right to firearms, for what ever reason I may so choose and desire to have them, to take a hop, skip and jump into the lake. How is that for Happy, happy, joy, joy!
  17. Kids got together, pooled their money and outfitted 'Ol Dad with a new You Tube compatible video camera. Now I can video all my TFA meetings and post the Candidates responses to questions on line. This will be a great adjunct to my efforts to hold our politicians feet to the fire!
  18. OK, shouldn't the prosecutor face charges as well, for failing in his fiduciary responsibility to the Public Safety? Stealing the pass key shows intent and planing to commit the crime, at least it should have been charged as Especially Aggravated First Degree Murder it would seem. And yes, the thread title was a play on the "Jobs American's won't do" ploy we hear so much, is that considered "snarky"?
  19. No, he gets to carry in his establishments regardless. As the Owner, he is not under the same restrictions that the patrons are, he, and any one he names as responsible for 'security" can carry without needing a permit, or going through a background check. It is just us average 'ol citizens that he does not trust to know how to act.
  20. As the parts and pieces of the "Health Care Bill" come to light: I have been able to put $7K a year into my FLEX Medical account, as my wifes medications cost in the neighborhood of $28K per year above what our insurance pays. New rules from the Gov. limit that now to $2,500.00 a year, so I get to pay tax on an additional $4.5K. This thing is really going to work for me! Plus, I got a letter from my Employer telling me I will be paying income tax on his portion of my Health Care, which will be an additional $17-20K. I am so happy I could, well, you know!

  22. strickj, how does one get experience to earn your vote? Does Class President or President of the Student Body in High School count? HvyMtl, did you watch any of the Legislative sessions? If some of the State Legislators I saw have "Political Connections" I would say they must be pretty dense. This mentality leaves us with only the people we have there now. Capbyrd, you would need to build a coalition, get out and talk to folks. Find people that see things your way and get them to help campaign, talk with the party of your choice and let them know you want to run for a specific office, and then file for the Primary in the race of your choice. Start a full year+ ahead of the Primary. We elected a first timer to the County Commission, this year in Madison County. I think the time is ripe for new voices to be heard. Be prepared to have you life picked apart, yours and your family's, and you friends. If you can stand the heat, go for it!

  25. Daniel Defense on FF, have them on three different weapons, really like their quality. Can not beat Noveski barrels. I am all for TN, my builds have all been on Sabre Defense upper and lower receivers, very satisfied. If I can build my own from parts, any one can, just make sure you get the right tools.
