1.   The storm moved on with no ill-effects here.  If history holds, Clarksville and Hopkinsville KY will get hammered while the inner midstate gets a pass.  East of here should be fine if the pattern holds, but you never know how things change weather-wise once the storm hits the plateau.
2. If you were expecting Spinal Tap or crazy late-eighties stuff, sorry.  The power just came back on here, shortly after the sirens went off.  Having been forced out of bed to go downstairs by those sirens, I found myself bored, and the flashlight wasn't helping much.  Reading by white LED is miserable.  Luckily, I have an old Martin acoustic and had a couple beers in the fridge - seeing as how there's no way to know when this all ends, why not a beer or two before they get warm while quietly (baby next door, townhome) playing some tunes?  I couldn't think of a better way to go out that didn't involve another person IYKWIMAITTYD, so the plan was set.   After all that epilogue, here's what I found: once my eyes were adjusted to the no phone / no flashlight level, I started seeing brief flashes of green light in the vicinity of the strings near the bridge.  I wasn't feeling any sort of arc, and the light was too slow to be a static discharge, so I did some investigating.  It turns out the light was coming when flesh (not fingernails) ran against the pickguard - the static electricity generated was apparently enough to cause the pickguard to phosphoresce briefly.  For reference, any of you bathroom scientists will note that it's a tortoiseshell celluloid pickguard.  I doubt you get this effect out of nylon.
3.   20ga Remington 870 with a youth stock and 18" bbl would probably work well.

Opinions please!

I just like how the OP titled his post "Opinions Please!" as though you'd need to ask for those around here...
5.   It's a 30" barrel with a full choke.  It's perfect for trap shooting.
6. Dayummmm...way to do it up all the way.
7. Hog,   You guys run your matches in the morning, and now we have IDPA on weeknights at the Nashville Armory - are there any events accessible to us poor 2nd and 3rd shifters?  We night people don't function well at 8 in the morning.   Thanks.
8. I noticed I was about to hit 1,000 posts after all this time at TGO...the rifles told me that I should take a family photo and post it up, since I may never have adopted them had I not found TGO. When I first came here years ago, I owned one 9mm pistol (an XDm 9mm) as a nightstand gun. Reading the various threads and seeing other people were as interested as I was, or even more so, in the various types of firearms, along with all the arcane and trivial information that comes with that interest, was encouraging. I had always been interested in guns, but only somewhat grew up with them. Finding a community of like-minded individuals who celebrated the shooting sports without having to qualify that support in "polite" conversation was liberating. Finding a community that supported new gun owners, as I was, with members willing to guide me throughout my increasing engagement with the hobby of shooting, and eventually collecting firearms, was incredibly helpful. Because of the engagement of TGO members with me since June '09, I've been able to safely introduce many new shooters to the sport, and will continue to pay it forward every chance I get. To the TGO community - seriously and sincerely - thanks, ladies and gentlemen. Before I found TGO, I thought that an interest in guns was something something only found on the fringes of polite society, and never to be discussed. I know very much better today, and it's all due to the last several years of exposure and learning facilitated by David and all of our members here. Left to Right: RRA LAR-15 (thanks, JoeBob!), CZ 452, 1936 Mauser K98, 1943 Finn M39 (thanks, Garufa!), and my Grandpa's 870, just because. I know it's not a rifle, and it's not mine - it's my dad's shotgun (and I hope it stays that way for many years), but man, does it ever look good. I can't wait to make some space in the next photo for an '03 and an M1. Thanks for everything, guys and gals. Patrick
9. The 226, 228, and 229 are supposedly (i.e. the internet says so - do some digging) a step up in quality from the 2022.  The primary difference between the 2022 and the "legacy models" 226 and 229 is the polymer frame of the 2022, while the 226, 228, and 229 are built on alloy frames.  A thorough internet search on the different features of the 2022 v. the three models I mentioned should tell you whether there are any other major differences beyond the frame.   I've had a 239 and 229 and both were flawless.  The 239 was too big for what it was, so I let it go.  The 229 is never leaving my side.
10.   Thanks for the compliment - I'm happy to have the chance to help a new gun owner get started out.  I'm also really glad SGammo.com still had some cases of Eley Sport on hand 2 weeks ago when I needed .22lr so I could swing this deal.  That said, the rest is all mine! :pleased:
11. It would be easier to make a list of *pro* 2A actors - it would be much shorter.  I know Adam Baldwin (animal mother in Full Metal Jacket) and Nick Searcy (Art in Justified) are pro-2A conservatives.
12. First gun?  I'll let you have 500 of mine at cost in that case.  PM inbound.
13.     Check your premises.  Compare your "old" ideas to the "new" and decide whether the new ideas are any better before anything else.
14.   Can't confirm the date, but there is supposed to be a new store opening there soon.
15. I found it when I was looking into getting a carry permit in Jun 09 and wanted some info.
16. I'm more a fan of IPAs, APAs, and the Belgian styles.  Speaking of the latter, a friend in VA has found me a bottle of Westvleteren 12.  If you know what that is, you know it's a BFD.   /brag off.
17. Any chance we could get a TFA icon as well?
18.   Great investment.  Can't lose.
19. More and more, I'm seeing the importance of voting with my wallet, and try to do so whenever possible.
20. Cabela's has pulled their sponsorship of the Eastern Sports and Outdoor show due to ESOS's ban on black rifles and related materials, which was instated after Sandy Hook:   http://www.pagunblog.com/2013/01/19/eastern-sports-outdoors-show-loses-major-sponsor/   It certainly makes me feel good about the dollars I've spent with them in the past, and guarantees I'll remain a customer (unlike Dick's, which never gets another cent).  I sent a brief thank-you note via cabelas.com, and hopefully some other TGOers will as well - the more they receive, the more likely they'll be to continue to stand with gun owners in the future.
21. Here's the link to Beck's advertising group: http://www.glennbeck.com/content/program/advertise/#wpcf7-f1-p531-o1   I sent a brief message about CTD's history and stated that they are no ally of ours.  Send some more and see what happens.
22. The funny thing about the article is that while trying to make us all look like loons, The Onion may have accidentally made some points that would resonate with fence-sitters.
23. .308 won't be cheaper to shoot, but the Ruger Scout rifle (bolt-action, fairly short barrel in a lightweight platform) fits your "hunting" and "20-round capacity" requirements.
24.
The panic buying will stop when the credit card bills start coming due. I am then hoping there will be panic selling.
Don't forget that year-end bonuses and tax returns are coming. This will not end for several months, if then.
25.
I've had a few head shaking comments regarding keeping 30,000 rounds of .22lr stash, and about 5,000 of shooting stock. Y'know what, that 30K rounds only cost about a grand, spread out over time too, of course. Ain't nobody headshaking about any size stash of any caliber ammo right now, eh? - OS
I always used to buy a box at a time, but with latest national jackassery, I snatched up a case of Eley from sgammo.com at a great price and am glad I did. It should last me a couple years.
