That thing stinks to high heaven...so who is really responsible for it? Actual liberals don't go for the lesser of three evils; look at the dem primary in AR for proof of that. While I'm no Haslam fan (see his association with Bloomberg), I'd hate to see anyone vote against him based upon that hatchet-piece. There's legit reasons to vote against him, and that "article" isn't one. My question is: where did the post originate from? That answer will either show which candidate the dems fear most, or the repub candidate who fears Haslam the most. Either answer would be very enlightening. The whole thing feels like 2008's "operation chaos" effort to derail Barry Obamao's nomination, except it's much less subtle.

More details needed from the OP - what will you be doing, what will you be wearing, what will the weather be like, where will you be going, what will you be carrying?

I've never had a problem with UMC 115gr, either the 50-round boxes or the "megapacks", over a couple thousand rounds. You've had the rotten luck of getting ammo from a bad lot where the crimp wasn't up to spec, and, as other posters have stated, need to alert Remington to the issue, and also have their customer service fix your problem. Please keep everyone posted if you decide to deal with Remington - there are a lot of interested folks who will follow this case. Remington's bulk .22 is known to be garbage (and I have more personal experience than I care for in that regard), but I would be very disappointed if Remington / UMC didn't make this problem right for you. Rem's relationship with UMC is something they have touted for years.

I'll second that...the SRT is pretty incredible.

Anybody else in the Nashville area feel like doing some shooting? Also, will CHMR (Owl Hollow) be open on Monday?

Had a 239, traded it for a 229 Elite Dark. It's my EDC in cooler weather; I'll never trade it.

I recently purchased a HiViz fiber-optic front sight for my Ruger MkIII Target (tapered 6 7/8" barrel), and need to find a reliable smith or layman with the ability to mount it for me. The sight is mated to the barrel with a very small (1/8" maybe...don't quote me) roll pin, and I don't have the tools to do it myself. Your suggestions are kindly appreciated. Thanks, StPatrick

Which of your semi-autos can be fired limp wristed?
StPatrick replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
My XDm 9mm has only had one FTF, and it was a limp-wrist. The shooter emptied two mags, and 37/38 went downrange. The FTF occurred near the end of the 2nd mag, so it may have been a case of a 1st time pistol shooter getting a bit too comfortable. -
I'm still getting used to mine - I haven't had near as much range time as I would like to. I added a Hogue Handall Jr., and that helped me keep the grip from twisting with sweaty hands. Minor trimming required. I'm still getting used to the gun, so I haven't tried SD rounds yet - are there any that feed better / worse than others?
-
I put TFOs on my XDm, which is my nightstand / range gun. I am very pleased with them. They're very bright in low light, and the fiber optics really help at an outdoor range, when shooting from shade to sunlight. I had found that on very bright days, the contrast between the super-bright sunlit target and factory sights actually made the front sight dot (factory white) disappear - the TFOs fixed that.

McDonald v. Chicago SCOTUS Opinion
StPatrick replied to eapking's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
...And all the rumors out of DC indicate that Justice Alito  will be writing the majority opinion. Three things to take from this: 1. Sam Alito is one of the most doctrinaire strict-constructionalists to ever sit on the court in the "modern" era. This is an indicator that McDonald will incorporate the 2nd amendment to the states; possibly more considering the messenger. How far the decision extends regarding restrictions still remains to be seen, but it will be the precedent that appeals courts must abide by. Any legal actions regarding gun laws will have to be viewed through the prism of the court's decision. The awesomeness potential is very high here. 2. Justice Alito is also a fantastic writer - this won't be a legal document that is awful to read. 3. I guess Anthony Kennedy woke up on our side of the bed this time. Too bad about Kelo... -
The Disclose Act (HR 5175) and NRA Hypocrisy
StPatrick replied to TomR's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The killing of this bill is either a happy accident of democrat pandering, or a VERY shrewd play by NRA (I'm voting for option #1), but either way, the DISCLOSE act is DOA just in time for elections in the fall. With the rift between blue dogs and the CBC / liberal wing of the caucus, this bill will not be haunting the country again in the current congressional session. That said, depending on election results, we may end up with a kamikaze dem congress that pushes the left's agenda (including this bill, cap and tax, and card-check) with votes from soon-to-be-unemployed incumbents, but we'll have to wait and see on that. -
You're a forward-thinking grandpa. Mine was an iron-sights type of guy.

I had to transcribe it, for those who couldn't make out the tiny print. Behold the awesomeness, and gain new understanding on why they're called "the good old days": Sensational! FINNISH LAHTI ANTI-TANK RIFLE! One of the most remarkable weapons ever developed is this super-power Finnish 20MM Anti-tank rifle. Mounted on special sleds so you can drag it ANYWHERE in ANY weather! Power to spare for you "sure kill" hunters (always aim for an eye shot at that charging Rhino) yet something you can drag ANYWHERE! Why encumber yourself with a 200.00 deluxe sporter? Why be under-gunned? Get that man-eating Jack-rabbit with the first shot (or even near miss) with this incredibly accurate semi-auto. Comes in original custom wooden case, complete with accessories, extra magazines, etc.. FREE, at no extra charge. AMMO? Naturally Ye Old Hunter's got all you'll ever want for years on the range or in the field. Imagine, only 99c per round for a magnificent 20MM cartridge with super velocity 2130 grain bullet :rock:GUARANTEED to stop that charging woodchuck in his tracks. (ed. note - take me now, Lord. I've seen it all.) The ultimate pinnacle in big bore perfection and guaranteed in NRA good or better condition. Ideal for the sportsman, shooter, range fiend, collector, big bore fanatic, noise lunatic, and muzzle blast maniac. Don't settle for less. THAT was great.

It's repetitive, but it must be said, google be darned: pics or it didn't happen.

I had Hogues on mine and liked them, but couldn't conceal the gun without a cover garment, so I traded it - the 239 just didn't work for me as far as what I wanted out of a compact pistol. While the 239 was a legitimate pleasure to shoot at the range, it didn't fit my needs, despite it being a very nice firearm. If you can make it disappear, it's a fine shooter. I decided that since I needed to cover it anyways, I might as well get a 229 for the winter, and find something else for shorts and t-shirts. YMMV.

That is an available option, but costs an extra $1300, plus the still-beating hearts of two polar bear cubs from different mothers, the jawbone of a man wrongly executed by the state, and naughty photos of Monica Bellucci. Send the pics to me, and I'll facilitate the rest of the process. Congrats on your new holster!

Friday afternoons are a good bet if you can get there before 3:30 or so. I've been all by myself more than once, even when the weather was perfect. At 3:00, there's usually only 2 or 3 people on the line.

I have a line on an Orca-skin holster...don't ask. Journey to the North Pole, make an offering to the Myrmegdon (if you have to ask, don't bother - you're not worthy and will die amongst the others), and meditate for 48 hours. Should you prove your fitness, you'll be greeted by a shaman. Present him with a gift, consisting of your firstborn's umbilical cord and $1500 in order to begin the application ordeal. I can't say any more about what happens next on pain of death, but if you make it through the 13 tribulations, you will be granted the right to own the tactical holster of Wendigo. It grants +15 to defense, +20 to manliness, and boasts an attack bonus of +19 against normal mortals.

I think I know that guy...PM inbound.

I've shot at Stones many times (pistols only), and on the few times where RSOs got aggressive, I appreciated it. They can be annoying, certainly, but there are a lot of idiots out there who can't follow basic safety rules. For whatever reason, they congregate on Saturdays. If I was tasked to ensure safety in a sea of shooters, some good, a few bad (and retarded to boot), I'd be on edge as well. Jenny can be a bit overbearing at times, but the lady does love guns. If you follow the rules, and if you don't screw up and point your gun at her or another human, she's no problem at all.

You polish gold while listening to something awesome. Duh.

Guns in parks issue comes up for new vote in Williamson Co.
StPatrick replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
She needs to qualify that statement, and then I might agree. All she needs to say is "children don't need to be anywhere where someone is illegally or irresponsibly carrying a gun" and I'm with her. Folks emotionally go for the "if it only saves one child..." argument blindly. What if a parent saves their own child through lawful and justified use of force? -
Reliability of a percussion revolver.
StPatrick replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I have one of them fancy chemistry degrees. The only thing I can advise is that if you don't know what's in it, don't subject it to 30,000 PSI while setting fire to it. Also, don't burn Teflon. It's awesome in the kitchen, but at firearms level temperatures, it breaks down. It's meant for temps below 350.
