You have good taste in music for a gun nut from Memphidishu. If I wasn't such an unreconstructed anti-Memphite, I might reconsider my antipathy for your neck of the woods; alas, I cannot. Since I'm a friendly sort of bigot, I'll just tell people you're one of the "good ones".

After I was done with school, I'd had (so I thought) my fill of the chemistry lab, and decided to pursue a job in sales. Office equipment, of all things. After all, if I could understand all the complicated stuff I was used to dealing with in the technical world, it should be easy to explain, logically, why someone would want to buy a copier from me, right? Costs on one side, benefits on the other, and complete the sale; I was sure profit would ensue. WRONG. It was one of the most humbling things I've ever done - I was absolutely terrible. For those of you who can make immediate personal connections with folks and move product, I commend you. That was the hardest job I've ever had, and I didn't last long.

I'm a huge Knopfler fan...this may not be the most hair-raising thing ever, but it's a damn good song.

$2 has been stolen by the clerk. Initial outlay by the guests = 3 x $10, or $30, into the motel's register. The discount = $-5, for net total of of $25. This is the payment received by the owner. In his eyes, the room nets $25. With respect to the clerk, the room nets the owner $25 + his two, or $27. With respect to the guests, the room nets their $30, minus $3 for the discount, also $27. They never see the $2 that the clerk scarfs up. The trick is directing people away from the actual money changing hands, and getting them to fixate on $30 as though the owner and clerk couldn't change the total amount of cash involved. 27 plus 2 is 29 every time, but in this case stating that is misdirection.

I'm definitely interested in meeting other pistol shooters. If anyone wants to meet up in the pistol pit (haven't worked up to 25 yards yet), fire me a PM. If there's interest, maybe we can put together another TGO meet and shoot at CHMR. I don't have many toys (no rifles, only pistols in 9mm and .22lr), but I'd be happy to share what I have.

Based on the website, it looks like SIG is entirely based in Essex, NH.

Tommy Emmanuel works well with his brother Phil as well: It's odd nowadays to see that way back when, Phil was the featured performer and lead player.

Sight installation near Franklin
StPatrick replied to StPatrick's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Thanks for the heads-up, Chip. Tom turned it around fast, and I really enjoyed checking out the shop, too. I don't think I've ever seen so many antique pump-action rifles in one place. -
Wow...that's just awful. The other "ugly" guns at least looked like tools that had been worn by their intended use. This looks like something you'd pawn for drug money, or maybe steal from a low-rent pimp.

And I was very impressed with my first visit. Charlie is a heckuva nice guy (he even spent some time helping me dial in the rear sight on my MKIII), the facilities are nice, and all the folks I met were very friendly and safety-conscious. There were some very cool toys on display as well. Interestingly, even though I'm not one to bash our RSOs at TWRA ranges, I found that the reduction in distractions (fewer line calls, shoot at your own pace, fewer shooters) really allowed me to focus on what I was doing. In just a couple hours of focused shooting, I saw definite improvements in my sight picture and trigger press. There's really nothing that makes you want to keep practicing than the feeling that you're getting better! Hopefully I'll see some of my fellow TGO members out there sometime - thanks for recommending the range to me. The experience was a 10 out of 10.

He looks a lot like the lead singer from the the Eurythmics. Soon enough, he'll find out that sweet things are made of him. On the plus side, based on the above photo, it appears he knows how to apply his own eyeliner and lipstick, which may temporarily moderate his future beatings. I hope he finds true love.

I'd bet that, because of modern design and manufacturing technology, you're much safer with a "cheap" gun than you were 50 years ago. Modern iron may not be the same, but the monetary barrier for entry into firearms ownership has been lowered for most folks, especially regarding handguns. There was a time when cheap revolvers blew up, after all. Now they're just ugly.

Well, it's gotten a bit arrrgggh-ish in here, so let's cool it down with another master: YouTube - Wes Montgomery- Yesterdays 1965 If your momma's mashed potatoes were that smooth, you'd be somebody else right now...

So you say, but Bill Monroe is spitting bullets here: YouTube - Bill Monroe - Kentucky Mandolin ...and Victor Wooten is bringing the artillery: YouTube - classical thump Victor Wooten

It's kind of sad that I can do what the entire bullet-riddled city of Memphidishu can't, and with YouTube videos no less. More Tommy, doing a Beatles mashup while playing 2 and 3 parts by himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOw6gCPDEQ8&feature=related

Started a new post re: awesome musical performances to try and un-derail this one. Post all your favorites there, and let's keep this one about undying (corpse) love. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/general-off-topic/42802-badass-musicians.html

An earlier thread got semi-hijacked, through fault of my own. Post awesome guitar (or bass, mandolin, banjo, etc.) performances here. I'll start with two very different styles: First, Megadeth when they were at their best: pure shred, wild solos, and as tight a live performance as you will ever see from a metal band. YouTube - Megadeth - Hangar 18 (Live 1992) Second, Nashville's own (by way of Australia) Tommy Emmanuel. The great Chet Atkins thought the world of him, so here he goes, twice. The first is Tommy covering a combo of Chet's versions of "Windy and Warm" and "Classical Gas", the 2nd is Tommy's song "Train to Dusseldorf". Enjoy. Both positive and negative, this thread has shown that apparently I have one of those crazy Jack-ceivers, because I saw a Primus vid and was kind of fired up. This is probably not a good thing. Despite that, it's time to add some serious throwdown: ...and there it is. That may be the best live guitar solo ever recorded. The dude with the black guitar who does the awesome is named Marty Friedman. I'm guessing his mom is okay that he didn't become a doctor (rimshot!).

I have the full-sized supertuck for my P229, and will be buying the mini for my PT709 shortly. By all accounts, the Comp-Tac Minotaur is a quality product, with excellent customer service behind it, but when I went a-shopping, two things sold me on Crossbreed: 1st, everyone who has one loves it - literally everyone; and 2nd, Crossbreed offers a 10% NRA discount at checkout. Good luck with whatever you choose, because by all accounts you really can't go wrong with either manufacturer.

The trigger appears to be pinned back against the guard - is that normal?

You should definitely sell it. To me. Cheap.

Looks like fun...I'll have to pick one up after I've finally gotten a 1911 in .45 acp. Someday, I suppose.
