Who elses property taxes/appraisal went up?
StPatrick replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Up 12%, despite the fact that the actual sale price would be exactly what I paid in 2005; just got the letter Thursday. Thanks, Government! -
It's closed the 1st FULL weekend of every month, along with Thursdays. Since Saturday was still April, CHMR will be closed next weekend. Hope to see you there sometime.

Yesterday was the 35th anniversary of Rick Monday's rescue of a lighter-fluid soaked flag from two men attempting to burn it in left field at Dodger Stadium. MLB made a nice video about the event.

I'm hoping to find one with the 2nd loop for the support arm - it helps you pull the rifle tightly into your shoulder for maximum stability.

Anybody know of a company making synthetic shooting slings? I like the "national match" style, but don't need a $50 leather sling for a plinking rifle. edit: I don't want to add another swivel, so no Ching slings.

I've tried just about every method there is for mole eradication, and the two-shovel method works best. When you see the dirt moving as Mr. Mole is heading down his tunnel, block his path with shovel 1. Use shovel 2 to bring him to the surface, and then, still using shovel 2, whomp the piss out of him.

Huck's time as gov is enough to turn me off...soft on crime, soft on immigration, weak on tax issues.

Fieldstone Farms, chemist, decent shot. Count me in.

Ha! Plenty of head shops, not so much a gun town. Take some hippie repellent.

Is the Mosin Nagant really all that and a bag of chips?

I have an M39 I picked up from a member here, and the accuracy is very impressive. The Finnish rebuilds are generally regarded as higher-quality and more accurate, but you'll pay much more for the pleasure - $250+ seems to be the normal range. -

I use State Farm for my musical instruments and guns; adding riders on top of my homeowner's insurance was surprisingly inexpensive. I also insured the iPhone for $12 no deductible / year. Beats the heck out of what the phone companies charge.

['STATUS=ASSISCHAPPED]It's quite effective; it works on me every time.['/STATUS=ASSISSTILLPRETTYCHAPPED]

I'm excited too, and I don't even hunt them - I was driving through the Franklin / Grassland area Sunday on 31 and saw a big ole longbeard (seriously - his beard was dragging along the grass) wandering like a fool through a horse pasture, no more than 30 yards from the road. I was immediately seized with the desire to go buy some camo, a shotgun, and plenty of peanut oil.

NC star red-dot: Dont waste your money

For reflex style, the Burris FastFire is top of the line, but also runs ~200 bucks without a mount. If you'd rather try the "cry once" method, Burris or C-More are the way to go. I've used a Sightmark MiniShot on my MkIII, and had good results; it only lost zero once, and that was during a complete detail strip, which required the use of a deadblow hammer, so...you know. If you still have the Weaver base that comes with the MkIII, you might want to check it out. -
P226 FTE every few hundred rounds.
StPatrick replied to Dropkick Murphy's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Absolutely, you can cause an FTE by limp-wristing. Your grip has to give a strong platform to the gun such that the frame is nearly stationary - this is what allows the slide to travel at a high enough speed to eject a round and feed the next. If your hand moves with the gun during the recoil stroke, you effectively slow the slide's velocity relative to the frame, which can prevent the casing from hitting the ejector with enough force to throw it clear of the gun. If you're only seeing this issue weak-handed, it's almost certainly due to the nut behind the trigger. I've had the same issue when going from 9mm to .45 - my grip was weaker than it needed to be to support the heavier recoil of the .45, and caused inconsistent and soft ejections when switching to the bigger caliber without any changes to my grip. I spent a lot of time trying to track down the mechanical issue, and it turned out that it was all me. -
What he said, and especially if the Short Reset Trigger is involved. It's no 1911, but it's an excellent trigger for a DA/SA gun.
-
Sounds like you need to get one and find out. I promise, it's worth it, especially if you can get a Mark used...even after buying the Volquartsen ignition parts, you're still only out $300, and the next step up is going to be a $1k+ target gun.

I have a secondhand MkIII, and if I want to remove the barrel from the frame, it takes some beating with a deadblow hammer...that said, I don't ever take the upper off anymore. Since it runs dirty anyways, when it's time to clean it, I only strip to the point of bolt removal, and work from the breech or chamber. Good enough. I used to have mainspring issues during the teardown / reassembly, but one call to Ruger customer service showed me how to fix that in 30 seconds. The tech said that his method should be showing up in the online manuals at some point, but it's been nearly a year, so we'll see on that one.

What next? I have all the handguns I ever wanted. Did I leave one out?
StPatrick replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
Are they as modular as .45 1911s? I've been interested in doing some home fitting of parts to my own 1911, but the risk of damaging it is steep...if the parts are interchangeable with .45 1911s (or nearly so), I need one of these for the sake of tinkering. -
Springer XD(m) 9mm. I haven't been involved in the shooting sports very long, obviously. Still have it, still really enjoy it.
-
Like others have said, get a Ruger Mk(1,2,3) or Buckmark. You'll never have to (or want to) replace it as you add more pistols to the collection, and they don't require CCI Minimags to operate.

Thank you to all who have done your parts...it's for no man to say whether it matters, but it's for all of us to try. Here's the basics, via Army Times: White Sands-based soldier dies in Afghanistan - Army News | News from Afghanistan & Iraq - Army Times He gave up an easy life as an engineer with an MS degree to enlist - he followed his calling. I'm proud to have called him friend and brother, and I appreciate all your good wishes towards him. Spc. Carse was with 2nd Engineers when he was killed. Again, thank you. I don't know whether any of it matters, but I want my brother to be sent off in the best way. Those who have done what little they can are my friends, and I love them.

6 hours ago, I received a phone call telling me that one of my best friends was killed by an IED in Afghanistan. If you are of the praying type, please send yours to Spc. Nathan Carse and his family. Even if you're not of the praying type, please curse the cowards who decided to lay a roadside bomb in his path. Make your curses count. That is all, and I thank you. Patrick

It's commonly known that, in urban encounters, it's all about the dangle at the angle that allows you to wrangle some fools.
