  1. Nope. If it were, the soldiers would have been eeevilll corporate mercenaries trying to gain a monopoly on the banana supply while killing civilians or taking semi-nude pics of prisoners.
  2. Yes, you read that right: Edited? Maybe. In my head, this is totally real and always will be.
  3. Good old modern life. Nowadays, I'd guess that a criscoed piglet would qualify as a dirty bomb. Strange days are indeed upon us, and zero tolerance is one of the symptoms.
  4. Everyone raises good points, but when did anyone develop a rifle capable of hitting a target at 4 miles? That would be 7040 yards, if it makes it easier. I throw this out with the admission that the shooter appears to have been a complete unsafe and uncaring ass, but the reportage is lacking. Why exaggerate the capabilities of the unnamed weapon (and the rabid collection of others?) when the crime is so bad that it speaks for itself? As for the crime, if the reporter is correct, and Manilla was firing indiscriminately, he didn't commit manslaughter. He committed murder.
  5. 2 things here: 1) nice handle; I hope you're that productive, because somebody's got to pay for the system, and 2) Am I mistaken in believing that poker was legal as long as whoever acts as the "house" is not taking a rake? If friendly games are actually illegal, from poker to a friendly Nassau on the golf course, et al., what's to stop selective enforcement of gambling laws? This seems like an area of the law that could be used to punish political or civic "enemies" as needed or expedient. I guess I'm glad I've never placed a wager amongst friends on the outcome of some certain event; it makes more legal and financial sense to play the lottery. /heavy, heavy sarcasm
  6. Vaya con Dios, 'squatcher.
  7. 2nd G&L. If they've made it all the way here from old blighty, they can stand the extra 20 minutes in the car, with the benefit of a lower risk of NDs and / or sub-morons. G&L gets crowded, so get up there early. Good on you for teaching and sharing the hobby, and in a much more kind manner than 235 years ago.
  8. I have two of the Kim-pros and 4 Wilsons, and haven't noticed a difference in performance between them, but I've put maybe 800 rounds through my .45 since I got it, so don't take my word like it was chiseled in stone or anything. Does anyone know if Kimber even makes their own mags? The Kim-pros look an awful lot like McCormicks, and re-branding mags is a common practice, e.g. Sig / Mec-Gar.
  9. Mine came today - took a little less than six weeks.
  10. So the Mercatus Center, a center-right think tank at GWU, released their 2011 rankings of how "free" state are, based on both economic and personal freedom. The metrics are explained in detail at the link below. Additionally, the site allows you to re-jigger certain metrics to see how your state would stand - just by moving every choice 1 notch below current policy, TN would come in at #2. Because of that feature, my big takeaway is that minor changes can make TN a target for investment of capital, and job creation is but 51% of concerned voters away. The national map / link is here; the links to individual states are to the right of the map.
  11. The link below heads to an old "Sports Illustrated" article (back when the mag had firearms info) which detailed the relationship between Sir Ian Fleming and a British arms enthusiast named Geoffrey Boothroyd. Boothroyd originally wrote Fleming to constructively criticize Bond's use of a Beretta .25, and the correspondence back and forth is pretty interesting. As the tagline says, "James Bond is fictional. His guns are not." James Bond is fictional. His weapons are not. Here is - 03.19.62 - SI Vault
  12. Well done. Today is for those who passed, and I appreciate everyone's efforts. If you're inclined, please send a prayer up for Spc Nathan Carse. He was a great friend, and left a pack of nephews behind who miss uncle Nate, whom we lost in March. Thanks, TGOers.
  13. I would add to the pleased browsers / customers - I popped in one day just to check out the shop, and the man there was friendly and welcoming. This, in spite of the fact that I told him I just wanted to check the place out. Anybody know if they're still running the TGO special on transfers?
  14. Well as long as we're posting stuff about how modern mainstream "country" sucks, I'll add these (Dale Watson has made disparaging poppy crap his personal crusade): And lastly, one that always cracks me up, b/c it rings so true, but WAY NSFW / LANGUAGE Warning!...On second thought, go to YouTube and do a search for Robbie Fulks if you're so interested. The song is the one with a four-letter word in the title - you know, the big one from "A Christmas Story". I was going to post a link here, but I don't want to go too far. I'll bet all you degenerates are interested now, huh?
  15. Just one? That's unpossible!
  16. Man and pet assaulted by dogs, man shoots dog, and so on...but it happened in Seattle, and the coverage seems okay with that. Is it opposite day? Link
  17. If a thorough cleaning and lube doesn't work, you might want to try new mag springs from Wolff before you buy new mags - they can be found here. With only 500 downrange, the recoil spring shouldn't be an issue, but that's another cheap part to replace before you try more expensive fixes.

  19. There is no comparison whatsoever, and that's before you consider that the Finns (and the Belgians, a little bit) built their barrels to handle captured 7.62x54r machine gun ammo, which Mosins could not fire.
  20. Bluedog, I have an XD(m) and a Sig 229 that you're welcome to shoot if you want to get together at CHMR sometime. $5 and some Wal-Mart ammo is all that's required. I also have a Ruger Mark III in .22lr, which some have suggested you pick up. PM if you wanna. Also, you need to join up at CHMR - it's $40 / year, and women and children shoot free. It's a great place to learn about what's available; I've gotten to shoot many different firearms there just because the members are so friendly. -Patrick
  21. Looks like it might happen. I'm definitely interested.
  22. In. I'd love to put faces with (fake) names. I'll probably head out there tomorrow as well, but that's dependent on the weather.
  23. Armed home invader in Colorado Springs didn't practice his fundamentals: Armed intruder in Colorado Springs home subdued with baseball bat - The Denver Post SCENE: camera on armed man, torso-up from left front; frame shot around malfunctioning gun Thug: [CLICK] "Lemme see here, what was it, oh yeah..." [TAP] "Shucks, what now?"...[RACK]..."Alrighty, lay down on the" camera from left rear of homeowner and armed man, knees to slightly above heads (tech. note - use higher frame speed so slow-mo option is available) Bat: [bANG] End Scene
  24. I had Tom do some work for me, and it was finiished early, and at the quoted price. That said, it was an easy job (front sight install, requiring a tap then drill, on an old Ruger Mark). The work was spot-on. He has my recommendation. I've also used Jeff Walle, and he may be the nicest person on the planet.
  25. The bad news is we scored 8 out of a possible 100...the good news is that with a few minor tweaks we can take that all the way down to -2 out of 100! It's funny that the Brady Campaign Against Something or Other but We're Sure it's for the Children thinks a high score is better. I'd like to see Tennessee look at it like golf, and go low. We're currently tied for 23rd, but the best score is only zero...-2 would take the whole thing in a rout. Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence
