  1. "Hey? Where can I get a tricked out tacticool 30-30?" asked nobody.
  2. An SR1911 and a KSG in the same store? What's he charge for unicorn rides?
  3. I have a MkIII target, and love it. If I can ever shoot half as well as its capable of performing, I'll be something. Mine has the VQ ignition parts. Volquartsen also has excellent customer service, as I recently found out. I was having light strikes and soft resets, and sent the pistol to them (as opposed to Ruger, because I wished to keep my aftermarket parts). They replaced the firing pin, adjusted the pre and overtravel, and the thing is like butter now. I'm tempted to remove the magazine disconnect just to see how good it can be. Everyone should have a good .22lr plinker.

    Ruger SR1911

Welcome to TGO, Ryan. There have been numerous SR1911 threads (all searchable from the box in the top right of your screen, most looking for places to buy one, and some few for reviews of the actual firearm, by folks who actually managed to get their hands on one), but the general consensus is that they are not easily available anywhere at this time. Demand has been high, and Ruger hasn't yet tooled up to meet that demand, though internet rumors suggest that they may be expanding their production early this year. I tend to believe the rumors, as Ruger is not run by a bunch of fools, so they're going to make as many as they can sell, as fast as they are able. Please note: when I suggested using the "search" function above, I was not trying to be a know-it-all jerkwad "crap on the new guy" type. I'm glad you're here, and sincerely hope you find what you're looking for. Happy hunting.
  5. I stick with the mallet, myself. My MkIII so rarely requires cleaning, above and beyond what I can accomplish by working through the ejection port, that it doesn't seem worth it to buy a special part to make things easier.
  6. I've always had an interest in firearms for as long as I can remember - my dad hunted deer, and we shot some skeet when I was a kid, but for me it was as much the elegance and simplicity of their function as anything. Somewhere along the line a few years ago, I went from an "I like guns" mindset, to a "why am I not owning and carrying one" state, and it went from there. I'm glad I made the transition. The focus and discipline required to shoot well (and I don't, yet) are rewarding to me, even when results aren't what I'd like. There's a great deal of satisfaction in a center hit or a busted clay...for me, they're tangible evidence of a job well done. I also really enjoy competing with myself - shooting is totally self-directed, and leaves no room for excuses. You're putting yourself to the test every time you pull a trigger.
  7. This was a failure to observe rules 1, 2, and 3. I'm guessing rule 4 wasn't considered in this case. It's a sad occasion, but a reminder that the rules for safe gunhandling exist for a reason, and nobody is exempt, no matter their level of training or experience.
  8. I'm with you on that one...I've only had them prescribed twice, the first after an operation to correct a busted nose / deviated septum (note: It is never advisable to get hit in the schnozz with a hockey puck), and the 2nd after a wrist operation. They helped with the pain, but I got off them as quickly as possible, as I was twitchy, itchy, and couldn't sleep. Unfortunately, most people end up getting pleasurably high, which leads to the potential for abuse. That said, I don't think we should be tying the hands of our doctors because a group of bad actors might do bad things with a new drug, in exactly the same manner as they do with current medications. Strong painkillers have legitimate medical uses, and I believe that providing aid to the suffering should be seen as morally preferable to preventing potential crime. Criminals are the problem, not the items they choose to steal or abuse.
  9. Deal with the thieves, not the pills. I don't think we need to be telling cancer patients to suck it up because criminals might steal the strong stuff. The criminals are already stealing what's available, so what would a ban actually accomplish? I see this issue as being no different than the argument over high capacity magazines.
  10. Update: rifle arrived yesterday, and I mounted a set of Midwest flip-ups today. I hope to sight in at CHMR tomorrow - hopefully it being Christmas Eve will lessen the crowd. I swung by today, and just kept on going, because it was packed. I love that the shooters were out, but I like a little more room than was available. Gun folks like to talk as much as shoot, and I had time constraints. JoeBob's service was perfect.
  11. All I want for Christmas is your avatar, on tap, properly, in my home. Please?
  12. I'm with you on the urge to tinker - I love to play with things...luckily I have a Ruger Mark III and an 870 (with an AR on the way, dear God, that thing is going to lay into the bank account) to sate those urges. I leave my EDC alone.
  13. Please post up a range report once you've put it through its paces. Inquiring minds want to know, and all that.
  14. The TGO promo code is...wait for it..."TGO". Instant 5% off everything in your cart at checkout.
  15. Heck yeah, I used the code. That was what really sealed the deal for me - after looking around to see what these were going for elsewhere (others were in the same range - RRA is running a promo for their dealers on these), that extra 5% blew the competition away.
  16. Aaaaaaannnnd done. New black rifle on the way
  17. I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to ARs, but this looked like a pretty good deal, to the point where I'm VERY tempted to pick one up from JoeBob. Am I correct? Input from some of our AR guys would be appreciated. Thanks, Patrick -$750-Rock River LAR-15 Fall Special Mid A4- Includes RRA hard case & magazine & -Upgraded 2-Stage National Match trigger- -Upgraded Winter Trigger Guard- -Upgraded Hogue Grip- You won't find a better complete AR for the money! *LIMITED SUPPLY*
  18. I'm not looking for text on an AR receiver...I have a small image that I'd like to have engraved into a shotgun receiver, then filled with 23k gold (or the job has to be turned around fast enough that I can do the filling). This would have to be a freehand job, as it's a one-off design. Bonus points if this job could be completed before Christmas. Nashville area preferred, but not a huge issue. Thanks! Patrick
  19. My wingmaster does this, and it's definitely a feature, not a bug. It's very nice when shooting doubles. Top shooters can cycle the action nearly as fast as a semi-auto because of this.
  20. It would be interesting to see the terms - to make money on small loans like these, either the upfront fees are high, the rate is huge, or most likely, both. Big +1 for cash, and +1000000 for not spending money you don't have!
  21. I will be remembering that for future use...which means another funshop is getting some money soon.
  22. This is from a TEDx talk, which is part of a series of conferences worldwide where speakers discuss their ideas and visions for making the world a better place. While generally focused on education, technology, and art, at times the talks move beyond these topics - this is one example. The General explains why he chose the gun as his tool for improving the world. From my American mindset, there are many things to disagree with, but the overarching message is interesting, and the final reaction from a roomful of Europeans is surprising. I recommend this to anyone interested in how European countries (or at least the Netherlands, as the speaker is head of their armed forces) view the use of their militaries. It's an interesting insight into Euro culture and a strong defense of the just use of force, even though some of this man's ideas run counter to American culture. Stay till the end. This video was found at www.BlackFive.net .
  23. O/T, but glad to see you back, Jack.
  24. Premiere is covering the M1 and M1911; the premise is discussing prominent military arms through history.
  25. I picked up a tube at Franklin Gun, and I'm converted! Not only did it help with rust, it's been great at removing years of caked up grime. I wholeheartedly recommend this stuff for any serious cleaning job.
