That's where a front bucket helps...if you get your bucket in just the right spot on a skid-steer loader, e.g. Bobcat or similar, you can spin in place on the rear wheels just as long as your stomach will take it. It's best if the boss is off-site at the time.

Keeps HAARP from controlling the bees. It's the same reason I have my hat. I think I read it on WND, so it's gotta be true.

I was poking around the web, looking at various training opportunities, and found that Gunsite is conducting their "250 Pistol" course August 13-17 in Franklin, at the Franklin Municipal Complex (whatever that is...I've lived here forever and have no idea). Course information is here. Has anybody had any experience with Gunsite? I'm curious to know whether they're as good as I've heard, or if the reputation is a halo-effect based on the reputation of Jeff Cooper.

I'm interested in attending one of these, and may try to make it out if everything breaks right. Is anybody else going? The info page for the Smyrna events (at the NG range) is here.

Bank of America to gun company: Find another bank
StPatrick replied to D3vo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've had good experiences with Avenue Bank (note: I have family and friends who work for or have worked for them). The branches are posted, but I know of at least one Class III mfg. who banks with them. I just like that they refund ATM charges, mostly. -

This was my thought as well. Between St. Trayvon of Sanford, and the fact that handgun carry is far more controversial than shooting for sport or home defense to the mushy independents that are required for victory, the omission was strategically necessary. Mittens needs to spend the next 8 1/2 months focused on one question - THE question, when trying to beat an incumbent president: "Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago?" Getting into the weeds on any controversial issue gives the other side, along with their fellow travelers in the media, an opportunity to distract low information voters from that question with the latest controversy. For reference, see the big nothingburger about contraception we had last month. It was all "oh noes! the rethuglikkkans are going to steal yer rubbers!" based on testimony by a professional activist too dumb to figure out she could get the pill for $9 / month at Target, no insurance required. Either that, or she was lying for political gain. I report, you decide on that one. Either way, Rush Limbaugh called her a bad name, so it was a full-on "war on women" and fundraising tool for the leftists at that point, real or not. The signal to noise ratio in this campaign will be a huge issue - the more noise the left can generate to drown out the "4 years ago" question, the more likely they hold the White House. Pretend controversies will be generated, so the best Mittens' campaign can do is try not to tee up any easy ones.

JoeBoboutfitters.com has a RRA midlength that might fit your needs...listed at $989.95, but use "TGO" as the coupon code and you get 5% off, so actual cost before transfer / TICS is $940.45. The website says "on order", so there will be some sort of a wait - joebob is pretty active on here, so you could PM for more detail. Here's the link. The 2-stage NM trigger is very nice.

My sister is in the market for her 1st handgun. She's fired a couple of mine, and has decided on semi-auto, and is leaning towards 9mm. We went to the Goodman show today so she could handle a few different models, and she found the following to be comfortable in the hand: Beretta PX4, both sizes G17 / G19, gen 3 or 4 (likes the finger grooves) M&P 9 (fullsize or compact) CZ 75 (alloy framed compact, not one of the steel framed models) I don't own any of these, so - is anybody who shoots at CHMR and does have one willing to let her put some rounds downrange with yours? Ammo provided by us, of course. You can answer in the thread or PM; weekdays are pretty much a no-go. Thanks in advance. note: please stay within the boundaries of this post. The only feedback required at this point is directly from the firearms listed above to the shooter - it's time to let the guns do the talking.

I used to be damned good, but I still can't figure out how Bubba managed to slice a wedge and carry it all the way. What an absolutely brilliant shot!

What Dave said...only I made 1 copy of mine, signed it, and scanned it as a .pdf . That has come in very handy - I haven't even bought a C&R firearm under my FFL, but it has saved me a ton of money with Brownell's and Midway.

I have a sling mount pinned to my gas block that I'd like to replace with a swivel. I've checked all the usual suspects online and have not come across a swivel that can be mounted in this fashion. Has anybody ever seen such a thing?

...But I just started their New Orleans crowd control vehicle episode, and am seriously appalled. I ordered it up through Comcast's VOD for cheap entertainment, and they've gone too far, IMO. I get the need for tear gas, and even water cannons. What I cannot understand is how any police department should ever be equipped with, or even allowed to possess a real 1919 belt-fed machine gun. That's not about crowd control. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I find the whole idea repugnant. Our LEOs have a very difficult job, but that level of militarization is frightening to me. Apologies if this is a repost, or of I'm just getting too excited about a stupid TV show.

I actually asked an old professor of mine about this years ago, and he responded that .243 was his favorite deer cartridge. He is a serious hunter and amateur ballistician, so his opinion carried some weight with me. He loved the round inside 400 yards, but had used it farther, though admitted that unless one was absolutely confident in shot placement, that was not a good and ethical practice. Doc told me that he only took shots beyond 400 yards if it was late in season and he was trying to fill a tag (deer only, but the deer up in the WI wilderness where he farms are pretty beefy compared to TN), preferring to get closer if possible. He did take several elk with the cartridge, but those were at much shorter ranges. His late wife used to take turkey with a .243 (legal up there in the middle of nowhere, at least when she was still around) by shooting in front of the bird and letting the bullet fragments jump up and make the kill - that's neither here nor there, but I thought it was kinda neat.

Was it stupid because of the pressures involved, other safety issues, or just silly? How was the noise and flash? If all that was manageable, your "stupid" idea could turn a 9mm carbine into a serviceable home defense-type weapon for those concerned with overpenetration, while providing way more kinetic energy than frangible handgun loads. I'm guessing those are big "ifs", but it still seems pretty interesting.

Hero Gear in Winchester always gets good reviews; I believe they're also a supporting vendor here.

James makes very good points, but starting off that video by stating "...before you just discount what I'm saying" doesn't take into account that a lot of grown men immediately discounted what he was saying, at least a little bit, based solely on his shirt.

Sorry to revive an old thread, and then continue the O/T, but I killed a bunch of moles with my dad years ago, so I guess I'll share how we did it (and it is a "we" thing - it takes two people). First, if possible, you need to drop some Ortho to kill all the grubs in the yard. This can drive the moles to your neighbors' yards, saving you the effort of killing them, which tends to be a pain in the nether regions. If the Ortho doesn't work, you need two shovels, beer, and patience. When dad and I did this, I wasn't old enough to drink, but it appeared that he enjoyed the beer, so it should be part of any well-formed plan. First, stomp down all the tunnels in the area you'll be "hunting". This is so you can see them as they move - when they're active, you'll see the tamped-down dirt be raised up. Once you see movement, one person drives his (or her, this being 2012) spade deep into the soil right behind the area of activity. Once that's done, the second person uses their shovel to flip Mr. Mole into daylight - be quick about it, as he is WAY faster than he looks. Allow a moment for him to see the sun, as he's about to go into the light on a permanent basis, so it's important that he should know what it looks like. Once he's on the grass, person #2 uses their shovel to whomp the pi$$ (technical term, I'm a scientist) out of him. Repeat as needed until you are out of beer or moles.

I'm with you, Brian. I grew up in Northern IL, mostly the NW 'burbs, and was lucky enough to move with the family, when dad got a new job, to TN in 1993. The people I work for would love for me to move back, since I spend about 40% of my time in Chicago anyways, but I've told them it's a no-go, and so far it has held. Glad to have you on here, and welcome. If you love Williamson County as much as I have, you'll be a happy man.

I think the attraction for me is an online space where you're surrounded by like-minded individuals, at least as regards firearms, which is a no-go topic in many circles. Most of my buddies shoot, but little, and don't love the various shooting sports, or all the details and minutiae that I find so interesting. I have coworkers who are heavily into shooting, but work doesn't allow the free-form discussions we can have here, plus there's always the necessity to self-censor at work that we don't have to deal with here - nobody on TGO is going to ask you why "any hunter needs a 30 round clip", or lecture you on the evils of your hobby, unsolicited. Guns, politics, and religion are normally taboo subjects in general company. It's nice to be able to come someplace where kindred spirits can get away from all the nonsense and dig into all the topics we love, without lectures, recrimination, reprisal, et. al. If anyone is familiar with the politics / culture blog "Ace of Spades HQ", you'll know what I mean immediately. That's my only other online hangout where I actually post, and for the same general reasons, even though the topics don't overlap much. It's unapologetically fiscally conservative (though more libertarian socially, but not libertine), first principles oriented, and wickedly funny and vulgar at times. Much like TGO, it is a good spot for a free-for-all discussion. One warning: it is unmoderated, so unlike TGO, there is strong language, trolling, and all the other ills that come with that.

I have a 452 Lux, and it is by far my favorite gun. Great balance, good trigger out of the box, very good iron sights, and a great value compared to other mfg's offerings in the mid-level .22 bolt segment (e.g. Kimber, Ruger, etc.). I haven't shot any true high-end .22s for comparison, but those who have seem to compare the 452 favorably to them If you enjoy rimfire shooting enough to be seriously considering this, jump on it.

Sig P226 Still Cycles After Last Shot
StPatrick replied to runco's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
This. I often make the same mistake with a 229, especially after shooting a pistol with a different slide stop configuration. -
There's a very good thread at rimfirecentral regarding this. Polishing the underside of the firing pin made a big difference for my 452; I haven't gotten to any of the other potential remedies yet. Here's the link.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but shouldn't eye dominance only be an issue with a "both eyes open" sight picture? I can't figure out how it would have any effect while using a scope.
