1. ...but rather a celebration. Regardless of how you feel about the musical value of the performance, isn't it nice to see a group out there celebrating this country for a change? The band is called Madison Rising, and the song they're featuring on their site right now is called "Right to Bear". I can't say I'm a huge fan of the music, but this has to be a positive development. MIke357 and other Irish fans, you'll love 1:27.
2. ...Says the guy who will eventually find a need for it nobody else would even think of.
3. I doubt that this will solve the OP's issue, but having worked in laboratories for many years, I can share some knowledge: 1. For best results, keep the balance plugged in and turned on for at least 1 hour prior to use - changes in internal temperature, and especially changing internal temperature while measuring, will introduce drift errors. 2. Exercise the load cell when using a balance that hasn't been in use for more than 30 minutes. This can be done by applying and removing a check weight (wait for the numbers to stabilize after each addition / removal of the weight) 10-15 times. 3. Make sure your balance is absolutely level. Even a slight variance from a perfect level introduces error into your measurement, and the error varies based on where the load is placed on the pan. 4. Know the error inherent in your balance - with a little bit of work, you can identify how precise your balance is, and also have a built-in warning to let you know when things are outside normal operating range*. The first part will allow you to figure out what's in your loaded cases, e.g. 5.0 grains +/- 0.3 grains 99% of the time. The second portion will tell you when some part of your system has gone beyond normal variation and has a special cause. This is easily accomplished via spreadsheet. If folks are interested, let me know and I can throw a sheet and some instructions for use together. *Your 10g check weight will not always be 10.000g. It's important to know where the break between natural process variation / inherent error and "something is wrong" occurs.
4. I've blocked off the dates on the calendar - anybody else planning to attend?
5. I would imagine he understood and approved. I don't know where you buy pants, but it must be a custom job, because 0300 anywhere in Antioch requires some huge cebollas.
6. Lock, Stock and Barrel off Columbia ave. in Franklin always seems to have a bunch of pump-action rifles - I was in there last week and they had several, IIRC. You might want to check them out. I don't know how their prices compare, as I've only used them for gunsmithing, but it may be worth your time to make a drive down.
7. I have a PM9 I bought from a fellow TGO member, and it came with a MiniTuck. I have been very happy with it on occasions where pocket carry was not an option due to clothing. My PM9 does not have a laser, so your needs may be different.
8. The only time I use the big chains for ammo is when Cabela's has a big sale. About twice a year they'll put Sellier and Bellot 9mm on sale for $8.99 a box and run a shipping deal where orders over $175 ship free. 1k 9mm FMJ at $180 is about the best a non-reloader like myself can do. With prices creeping back up, I wonder if they'll run the same deal again, and kinda doubt it.
9. That was it...the ad doesn't show up under my profile anymore, so I'm going to repost and assume it was eaten during the editing process somehow.
10. I'll re-list if need be, but that is a band-aid. I want to give David time to identify the problem and either fix it or tell me where I went wrong before re-listing. My business was less than urgent - it can wait a few days.
11. After this morning's outage, I posted a classified in the gear section. Upon completion, it was visible, but I saw a couple changes I needed to make, and did some editing. The ad no longer appears in the classifieds, but is visible as an active ad when I view the "manage classifieds" tab under my profile. If I screwed something up, please let me know what I need to do to straighten it out.
12. Godsmack? Caster, you need more ventilation when you're working with all that lead.
13. The safety *does* click, after all. Ask any of those crazy turkey hunters.
14. Identify what kind of magazines you want to run - Colt or Glock. Colt mags are the current standard and will run in most everybody's uppers and lowers. If you want to use Glock mags, Lone Wolf makes a lower that will accept any Colt-style upper, but requires bolt modification ($35). Colt mags are the standard from what I've found. I've been looking into the same sort of build. Make sure you are aware of your NFA responsibilities Our forum expert on 9mm ARs, among many other things, is Dolomite_Supafly. Search his posts on this forum regarding 9mm ARs and you'll find tons of information.
15. Can a limp wrist cause a double feed?* Saw this happen today with a recoil-averse female shooter who was trying out a commander length 1911 in .45acp. The gun and magazine involved had no issues for other shooters, so intuitively I think that's the cause, but I don't fully understand the mechanics of a double feed, so I can't easily diagnose the issue. In the case of this particular FTF/FTE combo, the chambered round was unfired, if that helps at all. *I did search a bit, but the signal to noise ratio was about 0.10. I have a more trust in most TGOers than random internet hits. Thanks, ladies and gentlemen.
16. Dammit. Thought I might have a chance to do a Chicago TGO meetup next week, but Cardcutter is getting sent to a more reasonable place. Anybody else ever goes there, you've got good odds on a weekday I'm there...and wishing for simpatico company.
17. When you get trolled by the Capo de Tutti Capi, does that mean you're a made man on the internet? If so, there will have to be a ceremony for Garufa. I am quite happy to be 200 miles away from whatever that may entail.
18. I have doubts about this explanation. If the above were standard practice, those who engaged in it would be trading a 3% surcharge / margin bonus for a stay in a Federal PMITAP.

Ticks

Ha! I like to joke that I get my 5 o'clock shadow at 9, but won't be able to grow a decent beard at this rate until I'm 50. I played golf yesterday, and the way I play is the way that requires multiple excursions into the high grass. Maybe I was lucky, but the only tick I saw was a deer tick (I think...bigger than the little guys, maybe 2-3mm across and all black) that I flicked off my shirt. Myself and my playing partners did the whole "check the spots the ticks like" after the round, separately, and found none. I'm guessing the course was treated, because we all spent a bunch of time tromping around in 30" grass, making plenty of noise to warn off our shoulderless friends.
20. Guns for America in Berry Hill / 100 Oaks does free transfers for active military (and maybe LEO, can't remember), and IIRC $25 for everyone else. I used them several months ago - I would have used D&T, but the extra gas and time would have made them more expensive for me. I still intend to throw them some business at some point for their support of the site, but it won't be on a transfer.
21. Great job today, and thank you, gentlemen, for your work today leading the funeral procession for Spc. Jason Edens. The bikes alone stretched for a mile, and I'm not exaggerating. From my vantage point on Sneed Road, I could see approximately 1000 yards west, and there were riders as far as I could see. This was around halfway through the procession. Sorry, Westboro Baptist, better luck next time. I know there's a lot of doom and gloom on this site and many others about the impending death of the republic, but seeing all the people lining the roads for a fallen soldier most of them had never met, including myself, the hundreds of riders leading the way, the flags...it's the kind of thing that makes me proud of my country and my neighbors. We may be down, but we are not out yet, and won't be so long as we have communities like this one.
22. I was about to walk through security at Midway Airport in Occupied Chicago when I realized I still had my Kershaw Leek clipped on. I had already passed through the part where they check ID, so I asked the nearest TSA guy what to do. Long story short, I went back to the Southwest counter, dumped it in a box, and sent it as checked baggage. The OP's story makes me very happy I caught my error before the metal detector did.
23. +100 on Charlie's place. It's a great place to shoot.
24. This is definitely worthy of a short YouTube video demonstration.
25. You speak true...Levon was the only American (Arkansas) in The Band - the rest of the members were Canadian.
