If the dust ever clears, I hope that history will at least admit that GWB was a big-hearted man who did the best he could in tough times and ended up coming up short with his allies (like me), while never having a chance of acceptance among his opponents. Will he ever be one of my favorite presidents? Probably not, though that will likely be influenced by the next couple guys in line, but all indications are that he was not the world-class narcissistic win at all costs (politically) a**hole that Johnson, Nixon, Clinton, and now Obama have been proven to be.

That is fantastic...If I hadn't changed my work computer wallpaper to the "Ronnie Raygun with MP7 on a GD Dinosaur" yesterday, I'd have chosen this instead.

We'd just have to set up dividers like they have at public driving ranges for you, Shankopotamus.

I just received this picture from some people I know out west (CO, not Memphis). Open range + golf clubs + shotgun = Shotgun Golf = AMERICA!!!. The guy on the right gets a point for every ball he lands on a "green" with a wedge, while the guy on the left gets a point for every evil golf ball he sends into the hereafter. The game ends when you run out of balls or shells, and everybody is a winner. We need some enterprising soul to organize the inaugural TGO Open.

I know this particular page doesn't have many active threads, but I'm still bumping - any TGOers planning on attending?

tried my hand at stippling this evening

That's easily one of the best, if not the best, DIY jobs I've seen - well done. -
This was posted on TTAG earlier, and I agree with the general consenses (since there were two): If you don't like it, don't buy it It's still an unforced error WRT advancing the image of gun owners as normal people Number 1 will happen no matter what, as the market works 100% of the time. Number 2 I agree with, in that my guns aren't about who is in power, or have any relationship to any elected official. I don't choose to own or not own a firearm based on the political climate. Though they are an endangered species, there are plenty of old-line democrats who like guns, and PSA is turning them off. I doubt many of these lowers get sold in rust-belt areas.

We haven't done one of these threads in forever, and it's always fun to shine a light on the amateur writers and new media types that float your particular boat. Give a brief description of where you stand philosophically however you like, and then throw out a few of your favorite sites. Let's keep it brief (please, no long screeds, manifestos, or mission statements, etc., try to keep it to a paragraph) and give our TGO pals a chance to find something new, informative, or fun. I'll start: I'm basically a "leave me alone, I know better what is best for me than anyone" conservative. I'm not a religious man, but am not anti-religion unlike many who share my agnostic tendencies. I believe that the degradation of the traditional family structure is one of the greatest long-term issues facing this country, and despise those who have actively undermined it. My motivating issues are personal freedom and smaller government, and my tie-breakers in primary elections come down to how much of my moneya pol is willing to acknowledge is mine, and whether or not a pol considers rights, as outlined in our founding documents, as inherent or negotiable. I have libertarian tendencies on many issues, but find the fixation with certain issues (the incessant focus on legal marijuana and non-interventionist foreign policy) counterproductive and won't be joining them anytime soon. I'm also a Cancer and enjoy SCUBA diving, long walks on the beach, and the Beatles. If I sound like your type, hit #762 on your phone for only 99c / minute. My daily blogger hit list, in order of preferance: Ace of Spades HQ, www.ace.mu.nu . He's been winning blogger of the year awards on the right for quite a while, and consistently brings humor and insight. The co-bloggers are a fairly diverse group, and don't always echo the line set out by Ace. The commentors are often more funny than they are stupid, which is a rarity. Friend of Breitbart. Comments tend towards profanity, so keep that in mind if it bothers you. www.iowahawk.typepad.com . Go roll around in his archives like a dog in deer poop for a minute - it's about as much fun as you can have on the internet with your pants on. Excellent parody, and also solid criticism when he gets serious. He did a severe two-part takedown of former Enron advisor / NYT beloved-economist / Nobel Prize Recipient Paul Krugman that was linked by multiple legit old-media sources, http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2011/03/longhorns-17-badgers-1.htmll is a link to the 1st part. No comments on posts. www.imao.us . This is just some guy in Idaho who started writing humor from a con perspective who now has columns in the NY Post and on PJ media. Good for a chuckle, but little policy. Small comments section; I never read them. www.doubleplusundead.com . Generally funny quick-hit posts on whatever is newsworthy with some gun content (one of the frequent tags is "this is my boomstick"). Definitely libertarian regarding social issues, solidly in the Hayek school on economics posts. An interesting team. There's many more I enjoy but don't always hit, so I'll list a few of them quickly: mypetjawa.mu.nu, nationalreview.com, weeklystandard.com, reason.com (the last three are old media, but good writing), iowntheworld.com, and hotair.com. Hotair tends to be more centrist, and their commenters are no fun, but they are usually the first to be on breaking stories. The entire network of Breitbart sites (breitbart.com and the big[hollywood, government, journalism, etc.] sites) are always useful. Post yours and spread the love.

Romney Bus Explodes on MSNBC.......
StPatrick replied to JG55's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Romney's bus now has a twitter account. HIS BUS. I never foresaw Mittens winning the snark war, but so far his team has owned it. Low-info voters love that stuff. Another example of BSNBC deceptive editing, similar to the Zimmerman 911 call, this time edited in order to make Romney look out of touch, e.g. GHW Bush with the supermarket scanners, short fun read: http://www.soopermex...peech/?tw_p=twt WaPo is now recycling old "presidentin' ain't easy" stories they ran in 1980 in Carter's favor with the lightbringer's name basically substituted: http://minx.cc/?post=330216 * *note - ace.mu.nu (which the last link directs to) is my favorite righty blog. It's worth checking out if you want a little more humor and don't mind rough language and mostly intentional stupidity. -
Methods for Long Term Storage
StPatrick replied to sschrick's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Midway USA and Brownells both sell silicone-impregnated gun socks that are very cheap. There's also socks made by a company called Bore-Store that are for long term storage that provide a higher level of protection, but are slightly more expensive. As noted above, a good wipedown with a silicone cloth before storage will prevent most issues. As far as traditional cases, if you acquire some, they're geared towards transport and short term storage. The sock style cases are for storage. If you have a safe or get one later, dessicant packs are available and are cheap insurance against corrosion. For info on those, contact TGO member Av88tor - he runs the Nashville Safe House. -
If DLM doesn't work out, TGO Authorized Vendor "Bigwakes" often posts bulk XM193 and XM855 in the classifieds.

Firearm cleaning supplies tool box suggestions needed
StPatrick replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I just use a Plano tackle box to keep my regular stuff in...patches, grease, solvent, oil, deadblow hammer (MkIII requires it when it's finally time to clean), small hammer, punches, various brushes, jags, etc. When it's not out, all my gear sits underneath the cheap workbench Harbor Freight puts on sale every couple months. My cleaning rods hang on the wall in a cheap plastic hanger I had leftover from a garage setup project years ago. Nevermind the hanger in the foreground - it has nothing to do with guns or home projects...it's just there to dry out hockey gear. Living in a tiny townhome, this is the best I could come up with. -
If anybody is interested in letting 5 of these stripper clips go, let me know.

Apparently they were Hornady's biggest seller in Q1...and a Detroit (!) CBS affiliate covered it...http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2012/06/07/zombie-bullets-in-high-demand-following-flesh-eating-attacks/

As Lester Weevils noted, a wipedown with a silicone-impregnated cloth will prevent external rust. Some Wal-Marts carry them (not mine), and you can also get them from gun shops or online. Brownell's has them for $3.49, or $2.73 if you have a FFL. The ones I've used (and liked) are made by Kleen-Bore.

I have really enjoyed my Ruger mkIII target model I bought from a TGO member. It now wears a Volquartsen trigger, sear, and extractor, along with a mkII hammer bushing and Hogue wraparound grip.

Is that THE Ed Brown of the 1911 Browns? If so, I'd be willing to bet his vault is just as impressive.

Arabic mandatory at New York City public school
StPatrick replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If I had to choose a 2nd language today, it would be French. After English, it's the only language spoken on every continent by those in power. A person fluent in English and French can go anywhere and be understood. A person fluent in Arabic will be understood to be a person fluent in Arabic, with all the assumptions that come with that distinction. -
25 People Shot in Chicago In Less Than 24 Hours
StPatrick replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I believe what Dolomite was getting at was that legally owned guns, in the hands of the non-criminals, are desirable and prevent crime. His point (again, I'm inferring) was that criminals of opportunity seek soft targets. If you had numbers demonstrating the rate of crime against gun owners in Memphis v. non-owners, that could potentially shed some light on that*, but I don't see what point the tables are meant to make, other than that Memphis should be avoided. *Even more illustrative would be crimes committed against Memphians outside the home broken down between HCP holders and all others. I know the data doesn't exist - I'm just making the point that the stats only show that Memphis is dangerous. They don't provide any insight into who it is most dangerous for. -
New Study: 49.1% of population receiving Gov't benefits
StPatrick replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Therein is the challenge. We have created a system wherein a person can remain a child in practice long after their bodies have reached adulthood. The outstretched helping hand has become a license to never grow up, never take accountability, and face no consequences beyond living a fairly wretched life. Repeated for multiple generations, what was poor, despicable, and wretched has become acceptable. There is minimal social pressure to be better, with major social pressure on those who try to do so. We have created a self-perpetuating cycle of generational poverty from which there are few methods of escape, even fewer within the law, and we see the results daily. When everyone is accountable for anything, be it the welfare of a person or cleaning out a refrigerator, nobody is accountable. -
New Study: 49.1% of population receiving Gov't benefits
StPatrick replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I tend to agree with you on both points. Based on the polling I've been watching (especially the internals - the big number rarely tells the true or whole story), the Romney campaign is in good position. A month from now, I expect public opinion / intrade / etc. to have the race a dead heat. If Walker and Kleefisch stave off the recall attempt in WI, which appears to be nearly in the bag, that will add to a new "dead heat / Obama in danger" narrative, and also put a crack in the traditional "blue wall" needed for a Dem victory. Money spent in WI is not spent in PA, NV, CO, NM, etc. Then again, the emerging electoral map has to be taken into account. VA and NH are no longer red (though NC is safely back in the fold, no matter what anybody tries to tell you, and FL is close), but PA, which has been a tease since 1984 may come around this time. Targeted campaigning and spending coupled with timely harnessing of the news cycle will win the day. Ultimately, the Romney campaign has to take advantage of events as they occur to shape a new narrative, e.g. O is in over his head, and get it to the undecideds and independents early and often. If the preference cascade begins and nonpartisan folks begin to be unafraid to express opposition to the President in public, Romney will win, and may not even need that to get there. Based on the variance in approval ratings between O and Joe (approx 50/50 v. 35/55/10), this has already begun. If you take into account that Joe has no accomplishments, it can be inferred that people are more comfortable expressing their displeasure towards the administration when directed towards Biden as opposed to Obama, as there was nothing historic or important about Joe's ascension to the VP position, contra Obama. As for Romney not being a conservative...no doubt. On the plus side, he's been tacking right, and his agenda will be dictated by the house. Everyone who considers themselves politically conservative needs to do what they are willing and able to get the most electable conservative candidates into congress. The Senate looks like it will be between 51-48-1 and 53-46-1 R-D-I (Sanders, Socialist-VT being the I). Even if Romney gets huge numbers, this will not change much. -
