Seconded. I love mine.

Looks like San Diego in October...the water is going to be c-c-c-cold, but I've been told that Wreck Alley, La Jolla Canyon, and Coronado Island are absolutely worth it.

For clarification, who did you get those things: e.g. the new school clothes, the backpack, the pencils, etc. from, when you were young?

So I guessed correctly on having some divers around. I've only gotten to PADI advanced, but I also tacked on my NITROX and I can't recommend it highly enough. More bottom time, shorter surface intervals, and waaaayyy less post-dive fatigue, especially on those days when you get down 3 or 4 times. Also, Bonaire. Go there at least once. Fantastic reefs accessible from shore, no crowds, friendly locals (almost entirely Dutch expats), and not nearly as skeevy as other Caribbean locales. It's the only dive location I've been to where nobody tried to sell me drugs or women.

Since "People of the Gun" (quote courtesy of a post on TTAG earlier today) tend to have expensive hobbies beyond just firearms, I figured I'd ask: who on here is a SCUBA diver? I would not be surprised to find that we have more than a handful...if you've never tried it, put it on your list. It gives you the ability to go to another world without space travel. The freedom is incredible, since once you're under you can move easily in all 3 axes, the underwater world is beautiful, and you'll almost always see something you've never seen before. There is no better place, to me, than 80' down in warm Caribbean water on a reef teeming with every creature imaginable. I'll put that to the test next month in the cold waters off San Diego, and I'll bet that the experience there will be excellent as well, albeit colder.

If I want to see fantasy gunplay, I'll watch Archer. At least it is howlingly funny, totally fictional, and any incidental retardery is entirely intended. If you ladies and gentlemen haven't checked it out, I can't recommend it highly enough. It's the funniest show on TV, bar none, in my opinion. Netflix streaming has the first two seasons. Enjoy.

I just hit 33 last month...in my head I'm still the same fit, functional 22 year old guy I was once. What's really neat is how my brain loves having all the wisdom I've gained since, but refuses to acknowledge we've aged in any other respect. Then I get out of a chair and my busted-ass hip reminds me what's what. On the plus side, I don't look a day over 31. Caster, on the other hand...I've seen him once. He looks very wise.

I went ahead a grabbed one...I'll post up some pics once I get the cosmo off.

I would not be surprised to find that many of our male members are also sporting boobs, or more accurately moobs. While it would not be appropriate to call those endowed gentlemen "girl", "lady", or "woman", I am offering no further comment on the issue as I have no interest in angering fat guys or German women. I've heard that neither path ends well, and don't intend to find out.

My employer has decided we are safe enough that no firearms may be kept in cars parked on company property...which will continue to work, right up until it doesn't.

Just to reinforce what others have said, I love my PM9. It's not a pocket gun (for my clothing and build, anyways), but it's a great IWB for shorts and T-shirts, etc. When I can't hide my P229, the PM9 is my go-to "summer clothes" carry gun after much trial and error.

Rock River Arms heartburn...
StPatrick replied to Troutburger's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I bought mine from JoeBob when RRA put out their "winter special" 16" middies, and got what I ordered delivered on time. He's running another special right now on RRA ARs that are mighty attractive price-wise with the TGO 5% discount. If I had time to shoot the first one enough, I'd consider getting another. The RRA 2 stage NM trigger is niiiiiiiiice. -
For those in the know - are they priced right for the current market? I've always wanted one, but haven't spent the time researching all the ins and outs...I want a shooter, not a matching numbers safe queen, so the rifles available fit what I want. I haven't found gunbroker to be too useful as far as getting a clear understanding of the true market value of these rifles. Thanks for your help.

Muzzle Break vs Ported barrel for 22
StPatrick replied to Pdheald's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Neither muzzle-brakeing nor porting a rifle that shoots a mousefart round like .22lr make any sense, unless you're going for looks. Spend the money on more ammo and go shoot. If you're going purely for looks, do whatever makes you happier. -
Beautiful bird...hope you plan on living another 40 years to take care of it!

Agreed, Mike. I've always been of the Harvey Penick school - no gimmes (for me, not my partners, if playing for score), no mulligans, and deal with all the adverse stuff as it comes. Doing those things used to make a good round feel even better - when you hang up a good number and know you did it 100% legal, there's nothing better. Sadly, throwing up a big number but playing by the rules does nothing to ease the pain. Thankfully, there's beer for that, or at least handicapped gambling.

I had to revive this old thread after seeing the following vid on TTAG - it's an "insect gun" that shoots a pinch of salt. I don't know if it's as cool as a primed .38spl and Cream of Wheat, but apparently there's a market for this kind of thing. Kinda cool, but I'm not sure it has the necessary thump for anything bigger than flies. I know one of you guys is going to get one, so post up your review when you do.

I play two or three times a year now. 10 years ago, I was a complete range rat, played twice a week on top of all the practice to a solid four and all that jazz. Broke par a few times. Nowadays with no practice, I'm happy to crack 100, which is the best I can reasonably expect. I've basically accepted that I don't have time to be good at it any longer, so I spend more time enjoying the scenery and company, which I never did when I was shooting for a serious number. Like anybody else who's ever been serious, I love the game and hate the game at the same time. Those who really understand that last part have my sympathy. I have much respect for anybody who goes out and plays it as it lies, calls their own penalties, and stays true to the rules. Whatever Scotsman came up with the game clearly designed it to stretch your sanity and integrity right to, and sometimes past, their breaking points.

Yes we do. Ballot box, November '12, some assembly required.

Link with explanation and criteria: http://www.bestplaces.net/docs/studies/americas_manliest_cities_2011.aspx Memphis fared poorly, but in their defense, armed robbery was not part of the selection criteria.

Shoot a 617 first. They are that nice. I've been trying to find one for sale used for a couple years, but it appears everyone who has one intends on keeping it. That's a pretty solid vote of confidence. I have not shot a Taurus .22lr, so I can't compare.

It's sodium bicarbonate, which is water soluble, so it's not going to sit in your sinuses and lungs forever like a silicate. That said, I'd still wear a mask or respirator. Though baking soda is a pretty benign substance, we weren't built to inhale it, so take the easy protective steps.

I think I may have answer my question from the other day..
StPatrick replied to zmtd8's topic in General Chat
I think you've hit the nail on the head with that statement. True hardship, the way it was defined a couple generations ago, is so scarce in this country, even in the worst and poorest areas, that "hunger is the best sauce" doesn't hold true the way it might have when scarcity of necessities, as opposed to desired objects, was a regular feature of life. Satisfaction, not satiation, is where I've found my happiness. A job well done, learning a new skill or improving an old one, teaching someone else how to do something better, lending a helping hand, fixing a problem, be it a leaky pipe or a sh#tstorm at work all provide satisfaction and a legitimate reason to be proud of yourself and your actions. On the other hand, andy new gizmo will be replaced by a better one, and human nature says you'll be filled with want again when it is. Satiation is temporary. I figure building myself, or business, other people, or even a doghouse is less temporary. I'll have my learnings and experiences and stories until I'm crapping my pants and I'm somebody else's problem. -
Agreed...what grabs my interest is that compared to taking the regular "250 Pistol" course at Gunsite, it's $425 bucks cheaper, with no airfare, rental car, or lodging needed, plus lower meal costs, comfort of own bed, etc. I'm at the point in my own personal calculations where it seems like too good an opportunity to let it pass.

If it makes any difference, Techsights is making military style sight sets for CZ rimfires for $69 / set now. You can not go wrong with a CZ bolt action. I have a 452 Lux that needs no changes or tweaking and is waaaaay more accurate than I am with iron sights. That said, a beater 10/22 to tinker with is on my wish list.
