I called my brother who is an E-6 in the Army and here's what he told me: They do allow you to shoot left handed, but they do not provide you with a left handed rifle. (Think brass flying past your nose. ) He also said that they won't discourage you from shooting left handed if that is what you are comfortable with.

Apparently there really are people out there who will fall for this scam though.

I would highly recommend reading up on ALL of the laws relating to firearms. You can find the Tennessee Code here.

Boston Police want warrantless searches for guns
dariks replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If the police want to search my house (and I'm home), then they will have to get a warrant. If the police want to search my car then they'd better have probable cause, because I won't consent to a search. My wife is different though. She feels that because she/we have nothing to hide that it won't "hurt anything" if she lets the cops search. I, on the other hand, feel that since I have nothing to hide that there is no reason to give up my rights and let them to paw through my property. -
It's the right piece of paper. Source

The next thing they'll ban is animal silhouettes, because they don't won't to scare the children. The Declaration of Independence guarantees the right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. It does NOT guarantee the right to never be offended.
-
Why in the world do they not allow silhouette targets? [sarcasm] Is it because they don't want so offend someone? [/sarcasm]

There seem to be quite a few of us that have moved from IL to TN.

But what if you aren't on your own property. What if you are at a buddies house or a relatives house? I'll have to look that up when I get home tomorrow.

Behold the power of TGO! /congrats on the new job!

I won't be around for the weekend so the church carry is a moot issue for me. I also don't plan on open carry anywhere, as I don't feel like dealing with any potential hassles. I haven't been had any traffic stops since I got my permit, but if/when I'm ever pulled over I plan to hand over my carry permit along with my DL.

I'm headed to Bristol, VA tomorrow morning and I wanted to check and see if I've got all my bases covered. From reading the Virginia State Police's website it looks like the following is true: 1) VA does have reciprocity with TN. Source 2) I do not have to inform the officer that I'm carrying unless he asks for my permit Source 3) The places I'm permitted to carry are very similar to TN. (i.e. not where alcohol is served for onsite consumption, schools, etc.) Source Am I missing anything important?

I'm torn between getting the MP40c for carry purposes or the MP45 for some authority.

Re-read it then. Yes, you did attack the idea.......except at the end. But what do I know? I must have slept through reading comprehension. Why is that annoying song "Ooops I did it again" running through my head?
-
Somehow I don't think it's Mars that needs to grow up. If you want to attack the argument or idea then more power to you. Debate is good. Personal attacks OTOH, are usually frowned upon.

I've got the M&P9 and carry it in a Blackhawk CQC (OWB) holster. The holster is fairly comfortable and I like the active retention feature, but I'm thinking of getting the MTAC for easier concealment. As far as ammo goes, I usually shoot WWB at the range. The only problem I have with this ammo is that I will have a FTE at least once or twice per box.
-
That last section (e) is interesting. I wonder if it has ever been successfully used as a defense to the charge of resisting arrest.
-
Will someone explain what "Fire from Retention" means.
-
That's just sad! My wife, who doesn't even like guns and on her very first range trip, was able to hit the silhouette at 15ft every time. She may not be an expert marksman (and neither am I), but she can at least hit the target.

Does that mean that I can have my handgun in the glovebox or lockbox of my truck while on school property while I am there as a contractor? If so, has this been tested by any case law?

Why Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric Will Cost The GOP
dariks replied to The Rabbi's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am not supposing that every person who enters the country illegally engages in violent crime. Most of them probably do not. But to make a broad statement that illegal immigration is a victimless crime is completely false. The current statistics that I've heard are that between 12 and 25 citizens are killed each day. Victimless? I believe that people who break the law should be punished. Crossing the border illegally is a crime. The only "punishment" I want is for them to be deported. If they want to come to the US then they need to do it the legal way. This gives us a chance to verify that they have no contagious diseases and that they are not fugitives in their own country, among other things. I am not for letting everyone in. If that's how you feel, then why should we even bother having a border? We can just let anybody who wants to come in. It doesn't matter if they're a violent criminal or a disease carrier. Right? Borders exist so that countries can control who and what comes into their countries. This is a fundamental concept. Illegal immigrants bypass these safeties and put all of us at risk and end up costing us more money in the long run. -

Businesses were doing just fine before illegal immigration became a problem. -

You're overlooking the obvious answer (on purpose I think). If business owners refuse to hire them, because the penalties are too high, then where are they going to find those better paying jobs? -

Your world must be a very nice place to live in. In the real world, however, things are different. Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. It cost me and you every time you go to the doctor or pay your insurance bill. It costs me and you in the fact that tax money is now being spent to provide welfare, food stamps, etc. instead of being used for other things. It costs all us every time someone is raped, killed, has there house broken into, etc, etc, etc. So you can't tell me that this is a victimless crime. There very clearly ARE victims. Immigration IS good for the country. Very good in fact! Increasing immigration quota's and streamlining the process to make it both faster and cheaper would do wonderful things for America. Oh wait.......I'm supposed to be against any immigration because I'm against illegal immigration. My bad.
