I am no expert, but it was to my understanding that the ammo and gun must be in separate containers, ie.. gun in locked hard sided case and ammo in proper box in regular luggage. I have not flown in a long time but has it changed?

From what I read on it in a review, the dimensions of the lower are slightly different that a 5.56 so they can not be swapped. I only assume that is because of the polymer lower possibly not being strong enough, but I am not an engineer and didn't stay in a Holiday Inn express last night so.....

It is still illegal to carry a weapon where alcohol is sold or served, however Handgun carry permit holders are exempted from that statue as long as the alcohol is not sold for "on-site" consumption.
