To quote Patrick Swayze in Road House... "Opinions vary". However I don't think you'll go wrong with an xd. I have 3 xd guns in 9/40/357sig and am looking to get a 45. I find them to be accurate, easy to hold and shoot, and easy to maintain. Prices also vary on them. A few months back, in the shops and shows it seemed prices were higher than now. If you find a price you like on a caliber and size you like...get it. Probably the only complaints you'll find on xd guns will be from the glock shooters. And that doesn't bother me... I own a glock 22 and find it to be virtually the same in all respect as the 40 xd.

Ditto to BEARMAN's comment. Trade. I have a Taurus 44 mag I run 44 specials thru and really enjoy shooting it. Plus makes a good snake gun.

Any thoughts on the cyclinder release on the revolver? Being at the top of frame/backstrap.

Welcome to the world of XD. It can be addictive. Then you'll want a 45. And maybe a CT laser grip for it. And a few extended mags. And....

If you're set on a 32; buy a keltec. Smaller, easier to handle and load. No tip-up barrel. And save about $100. JMO I've owned both. Shot them together and much prefer the keltec.

Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world of 45. Never had an RIA, but I hear good things about them.

Ken, looking back at my response,to you; it occurs to me that I could offer to help. If sometime in the next couple of weeks we could meet at Guns & Leather, I'd be glad to let you fire a couple of my guns and see what you think.

????? What's your concern? Economic unstability? Job loss? Fear of total collapse causing TEOTWAWKI? Or just gun fears in general? Personal defense weapon? Glock's a good choice for a first gun. Have you tried different guns/calibers? Glock 19--9mm is a good place to start. Check out different gun shops in the area. Check rental guns to try out and find something that feels right for you. I'd suggest Guns & Leather in Greenbriar as a start. Good selecrion. Fair prices. And a friendly staff that can awnser questions. They also have probably the best range facility in the area. Don't be intimidated by all the choices. Start slow. Pick one and jump in. We all started the same way as a novice. Good luck.

Shooting Glasses for people with less than perfect vision
hipower replied to Capbyrd's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Good option. I''ll give it a try. I may be the only Tennessee-born redneck in the state that doesn't wear a cap. Just never liked them. But... the times are a changin'. -
Shooting Glasses for people with less than perfect vision
hipower replied to Capbyrd's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've been fighting the same situation. Sometimes I'll use the safety goggles; other times I shoot with my regular glasses. Neither seems to be a perfect solution. Safety goggles better protection. See sights and target with glasses. I usually opt for the glasses and have had only one little problem with that. A hot 40 casing, and I do mean HOT, bounced off the wall and lodged in my frames. Got a little character burn for it. I keep meaning to look for alternatives. There must be a solution out there for us older geezers.:-\ -
That makes as much sense in the pricing variations as an explanation anything else. I've got an older Colt Officers model 4", a S&W micro 945 3.25', an SA Champion Operator 4'' and an Auto Ordnance 5''. Bought each at the time because the price was right and the fever was upon me. Each has it's own character and is a good shooter. Personally, I find the SA to be my favorite and most accurate. The S&W the most troublesome with mags and ammo preferences. The Officers Model and the Auto Ord. feed just about anything and give no troubles at all. As a novice to 1911 pistols I really can't feel justified to address any particular features and variations. I just go with what I like.

That's the funniest thing I've read in a long while. I'm printing this for some of my hunting buddies. It should start a wole new round of lies...uhh, I mean stories, yeah that's it, stories about hunts they've been on.

I've only met a few of the TGO members in person, but I can attest to the fact that every one I have has been a pleasure to talk with and seemed to be completely as they appear in print here. But this example of honorability far surpasses what many people today would give all these "rightwing [and some lefties too, I think] gunnut extremists'' credit for. It is an honor and a privilege to be even loosely associated to such a great group of people as these examples of our membership.:no1:

Don't think you'll go wrong with a SA. I have had a LW Loaded Champion Operator for about a year, and after a few FTF and a break in period, it has been a great pistol. Good crisp trigger and very accurate. The only issue I've had was not the fault of the gun, had some old mags with weak springs that needed replacing. Otherwise it's great. I think Magic's right about the stainless finish for resale.

Didn't RK Shows put on the shows at the old Smyrna Walmart? If it was, should be a decent show. But isn't the location the National Guard building? How much room is there?

Can't go wrong with the xd/sc! I've had one in 9mm for about a year and love it. VERY accurate. Easy to hold and shoot. And I too like the grip safety. I've been getting into 1911's for the last few years so I don't really notice it. I'm into my third xd now and haven't found anything that holds and shoots better. Except maybe my SA LT Operator in 45. Anyway, got off track. My father-in-law was given an xdsc 9 for his birthday last year and he, his son, and I went out to shoot it and several other guns that day. I didn't get really impressed until I shot it. I was stunned at the accuracy from that little 3'' gun. And the feel was great. We went to several shops that afternoon until I found one. Took it home that day. Great little gun.

The 22 revolvers are a blast to shoot. And cheap too. Good looking piece.

Baxter?? I'm from Baxter. Left there in 1974 and still have lot of family in the area. You picked a pretty nice place. Land still fairly reasonable. Pretty good air. Not too many Yankees and Undocumented immigrants yet. All joking aside; it's a good area. It's changed alot since I moved, but still nice to go back. What part did you buy in, if you don't mind saying? Anyway. Welcome home.

Absolutely Beautiful Guns!!! And I completely agree with the "Pass It On" . I'm a fair shooter at best with limited knowledge but I like nothing more than introducing someone to the shooting sports and helping foster the love of guns and shooting.
