Yep, but they are a bit pricey also. Thanks.

Thanks, "I can see clearly now"... good song, but seriously, I can see it's quite problematic, and possibly a good way to "loose" a gun in the mail. Seems it's best to just stick to Face to face or FFL to FFL. Don't want to loose a gun... and don't want to get in trouble with big brother.

OS, you seem quite knowledgeable about the TN laws for "intrastate" shipment of firearms. Would it be legal for a TN resident to ship a Ruger 10/22 receiver (has Serial Number) to another TN resident through USPS, UPS, or FedEx? Thanks.

Trust & Long Distance Gun Sale Transactions
Sidewinder replied to Sidewinder's topic in General Chat
Omega, for personal reasons I will not use PayPal and am not familiar with Zelle. I'm wondering if things would get too complicated to try to get the banks involved in an "escrow" that would assure full compliance by both parties? -
Trust & Long Distance Gun Sale Transactions
Sidewinder replied to Sidewinder's topic in General Chat
Ray Z, sorry for your loss. Did you use U.S. Postal Money Orders? Couldn't you prosecute the person under the "mail fraud" statute, if you did? I have done at least one out of state deal...and it was only a barrel, not a full gun, and all came out positive. But, I'm under the impression that "mail fraud" would be brought against the thief on the other end. Have you never got any restitution? Isn't "mail fraud" a felony? -
Would love to have this set of wheels.... is this thing a chick magnet, or what!!

This is something that has stumped me for some time. Let's say you find a gun that you want to buy, on a forum, that an individual has in another state. You strike up an exchange of communication and the two of you agree on a price. He agrees to sell and you agree to buy. Now what! I fully understand that for personal protection, it's probably best if both parties use an FFL. For the sake of this conversation, let's say both parties agree to go through an FFL. Now what! Are you going to send him the agreed price in money order or cashier's check, and trust him to send you the gun? What if he doesn't send the gun? Maybe he never even had a gun! Looks like you've just been had! Now, on the flip side...and you're the one selling the gun, are you going to send the gun when he agrees to send the money order or cashiers check? How we look at this situation, probably depends on whether we are the buyer or the seller. I'm sure there are probably some individuals on this site and this forum that has faced this dilemma. I would like to hear from those that have been involved in transactions that went as agreed, and those that things went sour on. Also, would like to hear suggestions and opinions on how things could be made safer for both buyer and seller. Please discount the buyer getting in his vehicle and driving to the seller or the seller bringing the gun to the buyer. I am currently faced with this situation and appreciate your sage advice. Thanks.

I wanted to go, but was down in the back and had some sort of a bug! Felt like crap, so I figured I'd best not scatter it around. Hope it was a good one. I probably missed that Savage 24V-D in .22 Hornet/20Gauge I've been looking for! That may be a good thing though, as I still have my money in my pocket. Nah... I'd rather have the gun.

Yep. My Contender pistol barrel is also a 10" octagonal barrel, with pistol scope. Sweet set up. Squirrel nightmare for longer distance head shots.

.410 Choke Tube Compatability
Sidewinder replied to Sidewinder's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Update: Well I ordered a couple of choke tubes from Brownells, got them, and they would not fit. The threads looked about right in coarseness and they were up near the muzzle, but the tube wouldn't go into the barrel far enough to engage the threads. It started binding before the choke tube threads reached the barrel threads. If there's anyone with experience in these TC Contender .410 "shotgun barrels 21") I sure could use some words of wisdom. Thanks. -
Thanks for the reassuring words on the hornet, Leroy. This is not my first Hornet, but "is" my first "Raging Hornet" revolver. I have a bolt in Savage 342 chambered in .22 Hornet, a Springfield M6 Scout with a .22 Hornet barrel over a .410, and both a pistol and rifle length barrels for my TC Contender in .22 Hornet. These "Raging Hornets" are scarcer than hen's teeth and high as a cat's back in price. Thanks, Sidewinder

Thompson Center Contender .410 Shotgun (21") Barrel Chokes
Sidewinder replied to Sidewinder's topic in Long Guns
With the vast pool of firearms knowledge on this site, I was certain someone could tell me what choke tube system the TC Contender .410 21" vent ribbed shotgun barrel used. The threads are right up by the muzzle and they are coarser than my Rem-Choke threads. Any help is greatly appreciated. -
I've been intrigued by the caliber and the job it was doing, before the .222 knocked it off of it's high perch. I believe this cartridge has performed quite well in the Taurus Raging Hornet, from some reports I have read.
-
I've never heard of the .25 K Hornet, but the .22 K Hornet is fairly common. There are reamers to ream the chamber, then they just fire the .22 hornet cartridge through it to "fire form" the brass case. From then on, it's K Hornet all the way. I believe the K Hornet allows a little more room for powder and gets a couple hundred feet per minute more in velocity.

Update... The Beretta .410 choke tubes I bought from Brownells would not fit. They wouldn't even go in far enough to engage the threads. I have a little over $50 tied up in them, so I may return them to Brownells or just hang onto them to trade or sell to someone that can use them. Is anyone familiar with returns to Brownells? Do they charge a restocking fee? If so, between that and the shipping costs, it might be best for me to keep them and try to trade or sell them myself. I'm still looking for a modified and cylinder choke tube that will fit a .410 Contender shotgun barrel.

Hum! No replies. Does anyone on here have a Raging Hornet in .22 Hornet? I so, I'd like to talk to you and compare notes. I've only had mine a coupe of weeks and would like to ask some questions about yours... best ammo for the gun... effective range on various game... cylinder to barrel gap on yours, and other things. If you don't want to post in the general population, feel free to PM me. Thanks.

I need some expert information on the choke tube system installed in Thompson Center 21" .410 Shotgun Barrels. This is not the 45 Colt/.410 pistol barrel. This is a TC manufactured barrel and it has one "Full Choke" choke tube installed in it. I presume it was installed at the factory. I have been looking for a "Modified" and a "Improved Cylinder or Cylinder" choke tubes for it. I've contacted some and no one seems to know the details on the choke tubes for this little shotgun barrel. Now, this "is not" an Encore barrel, it's a Contender barrel. I'm not sure if they ever made a .410 barrel for the Encore. I've only heard of 12 & 20 gauge. I need to know if TC put out a choke tube "system" for this .410 Contender barrel. If there was only one choke tube..."Full Choke"... why bother, just build the barrel as a Full Choke barrel. I ordered a set of Beretta choke tubes from Brownell's, but they would not fit. The threads on the Full Choke tube that came with the barrel, has the threads up near the muzzle, and the threads are courser than most choke tubes. Educate me please!

Hand Loading 38 Spl Snake Shot Load Recipe?
Sidewinder replied to Sidewinder's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Thanks for the information. I have some cardboard drink coasters I plan to use next. A friend uses Elmer's Glue and his works fine. I'm a bachelor, so not a lot of nail polish around...as in none. But, if the Elmer's don't work next time, I may be forced to seek out some nail polish. I do need advice on what to say to the checkout guy on the register... if he asks me for a date! Just kidding! Just kidding! -
Hand Loading 38 Spl Snake Shot Load Recipe?
Sidewinder replied to Sidewinder's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Now that I have given it some thought, it would seem that the styrofoam would act like a shock absorber, taking the energy out of the load between the powder and shot. Next, I plan on trying some cardboard coasters that would be put under drinks at a restaurant. I'm shooting it out of a Airweight S&W revolver, with a very short barrel. I may have to check out the CCI shotshells at Wal-Mart. Just trying to do the loads on the cheap. But, in the real life situation, I'd sure like to know that the round was going to get the job done! Thanks for your post. -
Hand Loading 38 Spl Snake Shot Load Recipe?
Sidewinder replied to Sidewinder's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
38 Special "Snake Shot" update. Short version... my loads sucked! Shot them at, I believe, at 3 & 5 yard distances at the OK Corral in Woodbury. Some would not even penetrate cardboard, and some sounded like a "primer" only firing! Very disappointing, as it takes lots of time to load these rounds. I used styrofoam from to-go boxes for the wads. I used Unique as the powder charge and #9 bird shot. I won't give up though, even though I don't have the skills of a machinist. I do believe the secret is a shot cup, similar to the way shotgun shells are loaded. I'm still not crazy about the idea of the capsules... too expensive for one thing. Thanks Red333, for the link to the other posts. I'm learning a lot about this "art" of loading bird shot in a pistol case. -
I'm interested in the performance of the Taurus Raging Hornet in 22 Hornet at 100 yards. Also, wondering how it's performance will match up to the TC Contender 10" barrel...as the Raging Hornet is also a 10" barrel. I'm full of questions and this one will open the flood gates! What are all of your "opinions" on the Raging Hornet as a hunting handgun? Would love to hear some hunting stories with the Raging Hornet. Think it will take a coyote at 100 yards with good shot placement? Hand-loading should add to the versatility of the gun, like any other. Appreciate all information on this interesting handgun.

Thanks again, for your help. A poster over on the TC Contender site said Brownells had .410 choke tubes for the Contender .410. I called them and talked to their "tech" guy. They're listed as Beretta choke tubes, but we think they will fit. The threads are up near the muzzle and the threads are coarser than Rem-choke tubes. I ordered a modified and an improved cylinder tube, even got a discount. $48.93 for the two, shipped. I'd say that is very reasonable. They are Mobilchoke choke tubes. Full refund if they do not fit. I like dealing with Brownells.

I recently purchased a .410 barrel for my Thompson Center Contender G2. It has a "Full Choke" choke tube installed. I wish I could find a "Modified" choke tube for it... without having to have one made on a custom order from Briley or Hastings. My question is this... does anyone have any experience with various choke tubes in the ".410" bore? Specifically, I'm interested in what other brands might be compatible with the "Contender" barrel. Rem-Chokes are about the most reasonably priced tubes, but I'm not sure Remington made a set of choke tubes for their .410 bore. Any information is appreciated.
-
Thanks for the follow up post. I have other guns in the .410 bore, but this is the only one that has a choke tube. The choke tube that came in the barrel is full choke. It will shoot the 2 1/2" or 3" shells. With a 3" high brass (heavier load) I'm a little concerned that it might not open up enough and would tear up close game. I agree with you about Briley being "pricey" for custom made choke tubes. Rem-Chokes are reasonably priced, but I'm not sure if they made a set for a .410, or if they would fit my Contender barrel. Thanks again, for your time and help.
