  1. I have 57 pieces of Norma .44 Mag brass that I'll trade for .357 Mag brass. Got any of that Cherokee? Thanks.
  2. Anyone using the .357Mag/.38Spl in a rifle for hunting? I have a Savage 24V Series D, chambered in .357Mag over a 20 gauge bottom barrel. Barrel length is 24" and the twist is 1" in 12". As soon as I build up some .357 Mag brass, I'd like to load up some loads for killing paper targets, and some for hunting, probably deer, yotes, and other critters. I have "never" reloaded any .357 Mag, even though I've been reloading other calibers and shotshells for years. Thanks, I'm all ears.
  3. I realize this is an old post... but, could we get an update on it? Who built them for you? What was the quality of work, and degree of satisfaction with the job? What was the cost? If you didn't get them built, any interest in selling them? I notice you're military... thanks for your service from a crusty old Navy Chief.
  4. Good luck aknut. I'm seeking the same for my Romy G kit in the Murfreesboro area. If you would like to get rid of yours, I'd be interested in buying it.
  5. I have a Romanian "Romy G" kit that I have ready for the front and rear trunion rivets to be installed. I'm picky about the heads appearing like factory installed rivets. I could have smashed these long ago, just to make the gun operational, but I want the gun to look good... if that's possible with an AK!   I'm hoping there is someone in the local Murfreesboro area that has done at least one of these, that can help/advise me on how to do the job properly, without the end result looking like someone smashed them with a ball peen hammer. OK, I'm picky... but I'm not anal. I just want my AK to look as original as possible. The receiver is a serialized NDS-3...all holes are drilled, and all rivets slide in properly. Actually, I'm most concerned about proper installation on the forward trunion, as the aft trunion is pretty simple. I'm concerned about getting a good solid rivet, with the bucktail clearing the barrel chamber, and no marks on the factory head. I have two sets of rivets, from two different suppliers.   I do have some tools, including a hydraulic press. I don't expect charity, so please let me know about your experience in installing these particular rivets, and what you'd charge me to help me install the six (6) forward trunnion rivets. Thanks.
  6. Just curious... does anyone fishing in the Stones River eat those fish, or just catch and release? Just asking, because the super tall garbage dump sits right beside the stones River near the Walter Hill Dam! I've been doing some fishing, from my duck boat, out near the Mona boat Dock...catch and release. There are some pretty nice rocks to fish from along the bank there. It's off of West Jefferson Pike, between walter Hill and the Smyrna Airport.
  7. I buy some of my supplies from Grady Jones, Collection Connection, in Murfreesboro... especially shotshell reloading.
  8. Are there any wild birds left anymore in the quail hunting farms?
  9. Need help driving the front trunnion rivets so they look like factory rivets, on a Romy 5, in the Murfreesboro area. Any help or suggestions appreciated.
  10. Fitting a over under 242 barrel (.410/.410 Bore) to the receiver by carefully removing metal from the pivot point lug. Gun locks up tight, but firing pin on top barrel hits primer too low. Will fire if shell is rotated. Question... should I continue making the pivot lug deeper, or take a little off of the top of that pivot pin throat... very carefully... hopefully, to allow it to drop down in the receiver just a tad?
  11. I have my grandfather's JC Higgins Model 20 pump gun from the 50s. I may have a copy of the original "Owner's Manual" on my computer. If you'll shoot me a PM with your email address, I'll look it up, and send you a copy. May take me a couple of days though.
  12. I like Grady Jones, at The Collection Connection... Hwy 96 (Franklin Road) and Veteran's Memorial Parkway. Like me, he's gettin' to be a little long in the tooth, so he's slowing down a bit. I've gotten good prices on most things I've bought from him. The marked price is the "out the door" price. He sells gune and reloading supplies also. He's a good man. I've known him for over 30 years. Check him out... and no, I'm not kin to him either!
  13. My grandmother (back in the 50s) used to roll them in flour, seasoned with salt and black pepper, then fry them in an iron skillet on top of the stove, very similar to Southern Fried Chicken. I think she used a lid off and on to control the temp and control the heat through them. All I know is that it was some good eating! Especially, in the cold winter months... with some of her scratch built homemade biscuits... man, it was goooood!
  14. Were these all wild quail? Loved to hunt them as a teen, and would love to these days. Like someone said earlier, there don't seem to be any around Murfreesboro these days. Haven't heard one in years! Congrats to you and your sons... they will remember these days when they're old and gray.
  15. Can anyone tell me the difference in the barrel sets between a Savage Model 242 Series C barrel set, and a Savage Model 242 Series D barrel set? Are they interchangeable? Or was the difference in the receiver? The Series C doesn't seem to be available any longer, and they seem to be using the series D for both at the parts house. These are .410 over under barrel sets. Thanks for any help.
  16. Thanks for your reply. I went back and searched my owner's manual, again, and found it. It basically confirmed what you said.
  17. I just got my new Baikal MP 153. Took it out of the box and assembled it. It came with four (4) choke tubes, which are marked: F/Steel, M/Steel, IC/Steel, and XF/Steel. There is nothing on the tubes about "lead" shot. I realize steel shot should not be fired through choke tubes designed for lead shot... but can lead shot be fired through all choke tubes designated for "Steel" shot, without any damage? I have not fired the gun yet, but would like to fire the 100 "break in" rounds using lead shot. Thanks for your expert input.
  18. There's an article on the internet where they shot 50,000 shells through one single Baikal MP 153 in five days! They used teams shooting the same gun, and even had to shoot some at night to average the 10,000 rounds per day. There's pics of all of the shell boxes and hulls. They did this in Russia. I believe the article stated they only had three jams, or fail to cycle out of all the 50,000 rounds! How's that for "reliability"? Think the other "B" guns will hold up to that rigorous punishment? Sorry, I don't have the link at hand. Seems it was on U-tube.
  19. WD-40, that cracked me up! The vivid images that popped into my mind, from your descriptive writing, really brought "Bubba" and the crowd to life! I haven't been deer hunting this year... because I'm afraid of getting shot by one of Bubba's gang! I'm dying to go hunting... but don't want to die hunting, if you get my drift. Can't wait for Part 2, and definitely will go see the video!
  20. Congrats Broken...excellent shooting! I'm like Howler though. I'd enjoy reading the details of this successful coyote hunt. Who knows... you might get on the Outdoor Channel! Never know... you just never know.
  21. My 24C, camper's Companion model, it's the one with the short barrels and the ammo in the butt-stock, is a highly sought out model also. Probably the only way I'd part with it would be a trade on one of the other Savage 24 models I want. I'd like to have a .357 Max/20 gauge. you know, they did make a .308/12 gauge in the 24 also. Guess either my .222 of .30-30, will take a Tennessee buck.
  22. Don't mean to hijack the thread... maybe we should start a Savage 24 thread. I really like'm myself. Got a .22LR/20Ga, .222/20Ga, .30-30/20Ga, and another .22LR/20Ga Camper model.
  23. Anybody nail a yote while deer hunting this season yet? If so, we'd like to hear about it, and see some pics.
  24. Like those coyote pics 101. You ought to hit the lottery at that location! I'm jealous. Good luck.
