  1. Being an old foggie, I grew up around a complete community of people ( where chivalry and kindness was a way of life...kinda like Mayberry) like him...but after years of experiencing many parts of the country, and world, I thought those people no longer existed! His generosity and kindness is greatly appreciated, and has sparked a glimmer of hope that not everyone is out for themselves. It's very refreshing, to say the least. Dolomite, I raise my cup...er pound of Lil' Gun... to you, and hope I get to meet you in 2014. Great way to start the New Year!
  2. Tell him it's trashed! And, that if he'll ship it to me, I'll dispose of it in an authorized manner! Actually, I'll probably have to have a hundred dollar disposal fee.... but, being he's a friend of yours, I'll happily waive that fee!   Seriously, I have a Camp 9, which is just like the Camp 45, except smaller. These things are nothing but Ruger 1022s on a larger scale. The most likely thing that has been mentioned is the recoil buffer. These things deteriorate just from sitting on a shelf, or in a warehouse...especially if it's a hot  environment. When these things disintegrate they break into small... and large chunks. Changing the recoil buffer is something a gun savy person can do themselves. Black Jack Buffers...right up the road in Portland Tennessee is the best, and they're very helpful...and reasonably priced. If your friend is in the Murfreesboro area, I'd be glad to help him change his recoil buffer. Mine was trash, changed it and no problems...it cycles like a Singer sewing machine. Good luck.
  3. Many thanks to Dolomite for the firearms related item that he gave to me as a gift...and paid to ship it to me! Really made me feel good that there was a fellow gun enthusiast, that freely gave something, and didn't expect anything in return! Just proves that there still are some generous people, that will do something nice for someone else, just to do it without any personal profit motive. Thank you Dolomite...and if we're ever at one of my lunch places, at the same time, lunch is on me. Here's wishing you and yours the very best for the New Year ahead of us. Sidewinder
  4. Is there anyone on here that has experience with a Savage model 24 combo gun, chambered in 22 Hornet/20 Gauge? I'm considering one of these and would like to know everything about it. My thoughts are that it should make a good coyote gun. But, I'm not sure about the accuracy and range of the 22 Hornet in the Savage 24. I have Savage 24s in other calibers, so I'm not illiterate about the make and model...just the ballistics data on the 22 Hornet out of this specific gun. If they're not too good, I just might have to go to a Savage bolt in the 22 Hornet caliber. I'm pretty sure it could get the job done out to 100-150 yards. Thanks in advance, for your help.
  5. Reading the article at the link posted, not only gave me concern for future ammo supplies, but for how much we may be paying for automobile batteries in the future! Castro, nor Khrushchev, could not have done a better job of destroying this country! If he can get to that magical number of people he's looking for, more people taking than giving...we'll be disarmed anyway...and won't need any ammo!
  6. Stainless always goes well with Christmas!
  7. 94user, this is off the subject...But, I used to live in a house that was demolished to build that Wal-mart on the site, many years ago...if it's the one on 51North. Right behind the house was a cotton field...that's where the Wal Mart building and parking lot went in.   Sorry you couldn't get all of the ammo you needed. I wish we all could. Not sure if we'll see those days again anytime soon! May have something to do with all of that hope and change!
  8. No worries Major Kong. If whatever the hang up in the supply line is, would get fixed, there would be ammo on the shelves in all the stores...and all this discussion would be moot! Guess we can always hope for the best.
  9. Looks like we're darned if we do, and darned if we don't! We're screwed folks! Maybe we had better study up on spear making!
  10. ADJ or ADR? I don't guess there's any ADR these days.
  11. You might want to shop different Wall Mart stores. Some have the same ammo at lower prices. I can't figure that one out.
  12. I guess it's fess up time. What I want, and what I need, are probably two different things! Been that way most of my life...and probably the same for some of you also. But, boy oh howdy...when we want it, we want it bad, don't we! Just read the last lead plant in the US closed down...couldn't afford to do the millions of dollars of EPA requirements required by the Obama Administration. Said they knew it was coming...and that's the reason the military was buying up all of the ammo. But .22LR too??? Before this is over...if it ever is, we may wish we could buy .22s at the re-seller's price! I sure wish it were better!
  13. I stood in line for six hours because I needed the ammo. I was number one in line. If, any .22 ammo had come in, I would have gotten some. But... none, not one round came in. There is a shortage on up the pipeline somewhere. Believe me, I felt your frustration after waiting so long. I, like everyone else, would like to be able to just walk into Wal Mart and leisurely buy all of the .22LR I want off of the shelves. Unfortunately, we have to work at it to get the .22 ammo these days. Everyone has surplus time these days...just check the traffic at all times of the day... it's hectic! If everyone were at work, there wouldn't be that much traffic all day long.   I understand your frustration, but your last sentence above labeled everyone standing in line as "resellers". While I feel there probably are a few, I feel most are just like me...wanting some .22 to take home, so they don't feel guilty when they shoot a few rounds. I buy some and shoot some. Hope you're able to be number one in line before long, and are able to score three big boxes of .22LR of your choice.
  14. Sorry Shawn, I haven't been over to this thread for awhile. I have a FoxPro Spitfire, and the MoJo twirling rabbit decoy.
  15. Thanks for posting the video Kahrman. This one must have spent some time around humans before. I've see house cats more skittish than this little guy.
  16. Spent 6 hours in line (#1) the day before yesterday at Wal-Mart on Old Fort, because the tea leaves said there was 40 boxes of CCI Stinger coming in. Got there at 5 PM, and left at 11 PM, with nary a round of .22 LR in my shopping bag! So disgusted I didn't go back yesterday. And for those that might feel it serves me right... no, I do not, have never sold one single round of .22 LR ammo. I might use some in making a gun deal work, or trade some for some other caliber of ammo that I need... but, I do not sell my ammo.   So, to play the devil's advocate... let's say I had gotten three boxes of Federal 550 round bulk HP...and that I decided to sell it. What would be a fair price to compensate me for the 2 hours in-line waiting time for each box, and reimburse me for the $23 plus tax I would have paid for each box? Then there's the convenience factor to the buyer....like milk and bread cost more at the convenience store. than it does at Kroger or Publix. Throw in the scarcity factor...and it becomes understandable that those selling some of their ammo to a friend, shouldn't be asked to let it go for WM prices. We all saw scarcity take gasoline prices to the $4 a gallon level just a few years ago. So, even though I "do not" sell my .22 LR ammo, I can see where some "individuals" selling might come up with their selling price. I hope there is plenty for all of us before too long... so that we don't have to feel guilty about shooting a lot, and the prices come back down to a decent level.   That price thing coming down to a reasonable level may be a pipe dream. Remember the sugar shortage took candy bars and soft drinks from a nickle a piece to where they are today! Ditto for gasoline prices. Just my 10 cents worth...I wrote too much for it to be 2 cents worth.
  17. I've done some research on this, but was hoping to hear from owners that have converted their .22 Hornet to .22 K Hornet. For those that have done the conversion, was it worth it, and was it cost effective? My understanding is that it just makes a larger capacity for powder in the shell casing. For those that have the k Hornet, do you full size your fired brass, or just neck size it? Does the K Hornet brass last longer, split sooner, or no change? Some pics and comparisons of the two rounds would be helpful. Thanks.
  18. I'm pretty sure many of us have guns that hardly, if ever, leave the house...as they stand sentry duty. They were strategically put in a place, or places if there's more than one, where they can be accessed in emergency situations. For months, and possibly years, they stand by with fully loaded magazines. They wouldn't be too much help with empty mags.   But... the delima, the quandary! Some say leaving mags fully loaded over a period of time weakens the mag springs, or causes the springs to take a permanent set. What are we to do...empty mags, or full mags, or periodically replace the magazine springs, or rotate the mags? What do all of you do? What are your beliefs, or opinions, on this subject?
  19. RugerHornet, Thanks for the information. When it comes to the .22 Hornet, this is my first rodeo! I'm learning quickly that this is not an inexpensive round to shoot. At 30+ cents a round for the brass alone, this sucker gets expensive in a hurry. My approach is to try to find old ammo that people don't need anymore, buy and shoot it, then reload. The rest of the components aren't hard to come by... just the brass. I have bought Lil' Gun and small pistol primers. I think I'll load mostly 45 gr HP or SP for my 10" Contender barrel. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the twist is 1:12. I spoke with a well known smith, and shooter, in this area this afternoon, and he thinks it's worth it to modify the .22 Hornet to the K Hornet. I'd like to shoot mine some first, before seriously considering modifying it. I've only shot three rounds through mine...at a tree... just for a functional check! I really don't know what It'll do yet. I may try to find a rifle chambered in .22 Hornet, if I like the performance of this 10" Contender barrel. Oh well, the job is never done...right? Thanks again.
  20. +1...Coyotes are the best garbage disposal there is. Overnight, they will pick the bones clean. I know as I've seen it work inside the city limits on deer and other things too.
  21. Unfortunately, I believe it's possible that the supply of ammo...all ammo, may be going down...and the prices may be going up. That reasoning comes from the news that the last lead plant in the US has closed down, or will close down soon. Without lead, here at home, we're either going to have to import it, or shoot some material other than lead. Supply and demand dictates that when there is a scarcity of any commodity, the price goes up. Just stop and think...how much were we paying for gasoline ten years ago...twenty years ago?    While there are some that are probably buying purposefully to resale, there are many more that are buying to shoot, or to put a couple of boxes back in case the supply dries up completely. I buy .22LR at the Murfreesboro WM on Old Fort, and "never" have seen any hint of corruption or favoritism charged by the poster serbu50. And yes, to get ammo, you have to get there early and stand in line. I don't buy .22 LR to resale it. But, I can understand that if I were going to resale a box, I wouldn't sale it for the same price as WM...after standing line for three hours to get it.    I wish the shelves were full, and we all could get all we wanted... and the prices were lower. But, frankly, I think we'll see that later, rather than earlier. I think it's going to be more like months, rather than weeks, before we see the supply improve...and I doubt we'll ever see those "falling prices" on ammo at Wal-Mart.
  22. The calibers you listed are more plentiful...and more reasonably priced. I've been looking for some .22 Hornet once fired, or virgin brass, and can't find any reasonably priced to my taste. Pretty sure you'll be able to move most of yours. Wish someone in the crowd shot .22 Hornet!
  23. Thanks for the effort anyway. Luke. The traffic is the reason I hate to do anything in Nashville. If I have to do any driving, I usually head up to The Reloader's Bench in Mt Juliet. Larry has some Privi Partisan  brass right now, but doesn't have the 45 gr SJHP bullets I need. I'll wait until he has both before I make the trip. What are others reading this paying for good bullets (not match), just hunting  bullets in 45gr semi jacketed hollow point...or soft point? Thanks.
  24. 79troublehead, nothing wrong with reviving an old thread! My first choice in a long gun would be a .22 Hornet/20Gauge Savage 24 combo gun. I wouldn't mind having one in a Savage bolt action, with a decent scope. I might just need to look for a .22 Hornet long barrel to fit my TC Contender.
  25. Thanks, I do go to Nashville ever now and then. I'll have to drop in and check them out.
