  1. Just got off of the phone with Tammy, from Rossi Customer Service. She did not offer any hope that I'd be getting my buttstock anytime soon. I asked her about them sending me a "Tactical" stock, as they're unable to come up with a wood stock. She claims that others have tried it and either damaged the stock or the receiver, due to it not fitting properly. Has anyone on here been through this process successfully? If so, is the tactical stock the same length as the wood stock and did you have to do any fitting to make it work?
  2. Thanks for the information, Shotgunshooter. Have you killed any coyotes with the 17HMR? If so, at what range and was it a "dead right there" situation, or did you have to do some follow up tracking? Thanks.
  3. Yep! This could have been a suburban coyote visiting his country cousins.
  4. I just recently scored a nice Savage A17 in .17HMR. I've put a BSA Sweet 17 scope on it. I've never had this rifle in the woods, so I'm interested in hearing from those that have hunting experience with it. Is it too small (17grain & 20grain bullets) for middle Tennessee coyote hunting? Is it too hot for squirrels and rabbits... tear up too much of the meat? Does "head shots" on rabbits and squirrels get messy? Sure wish Savage made one of these things chambered in .22 Hornet. Appreciate any input, good or bad.
  5. Very unusual for a coyote to be that trusting (un-afraid) of a human.
  6. I can appreciate your " not getting it" over my year long, plus a couple of months, failure to get Rossi support on a "back ordered" buttstock for my Rossi Circuit Judge 45 Colt/ .410 bore. The gun is selling for $550 plus in Wal-Mart, and about $100 more in other sportin goods stores. Now, if I "had"... which I didn't, listed it in the classifieds "for sale- as is", would you have paid me $500 for it... which would have been a discounted price for a gun with less than 50 rounds through it? I kinda doubt it. You, or probably anyone else would have expected it to be a distress sale, and expected to buy it for $350 - $400. Remember, I have the original, serialized box, and everything it came from the factory with. If it was the only gun I owned, or only one available for me to shoot, I may have "wasted" a year. But that is not the case, thankfully. I just haven't been able to shoot this particular gun in over a year. I come from a generation when a man's word and handshake was as good as a signed and notarized piece of paper. A man's word was his bond... and defined his reputation and integrity... plain ole honesty. If this huge corporation can't keep their word over a small thing like replacing a faulty buttstock, then it doesn'y appear to me that they have any honesty/integrity, and are well on their way to establishing a bad reputation for their company. One small incident like mine won't take a company down... but, enough of them will. There are many companies that failed in their responsibility to their customers, lost the loyalty of those customers, and ultimately lost their businesses. In the "high tech" world that we live in, word like this gets around, not only the country, but the world pretty quickly. If you look on the internet, you'll see pictures of some of these buttstocks shattered! Suppose someone looses an eye from one of these shattered buttstocks? If one could loose an eye, then potentially anyone with a cracked buttstock could loose an eye. How many "personal injury" lawsuits do you think this company could endure? Probably not too many! Therefore, if the officers of this company are using smart judgement, in accordance with their pay scale and job title, it would be to their advantage to get these faulty buttstocks back in their custody, as quickly as possible. Even if they have to replace the entire gun, it may save them money in the long run. Incidentally, they have told me they would do that very thing! They even sent me a prepaid shipping label. Only one problem... they wouldn't tell me when I'd get my "replacement" gun either in writing or over the phone. Here's where that "integrity" thing comes into the picture. I don't trust them, as I feel they have already lied to me, so I won't ship them my gun... until I get a definite guarantee that they'll ship the replacement immediately. Well, I don't know about all of you, but my "trust factor" in Rossi keeping their word is zero! Probably others are beginning to feel the same way. No, I haven't "wasted" a year. I've "used" a year watching Rossi ruin their reputation and probably loose a lot of would be new customers. The option of "bubbaing" up my gun, with a mismatched buttstock, is always there. But... if you can believe what the Rossi phone personnel tell me, none of their other buttstocks will fit the "Circuit Judge". How many believe them? How many "trust" them? If all of this is going on with the knowledge of the top man at Rossi, then the company is in serious trouble, in my estimation. What say you?
  7. Ronald_55, thanks for your information. I will try everything you have mentioned and see if I get my new stock. Maybe, as you say, it's a procedural thing and I've had the procedure wrong. I've made so many phone calls to them in the last year, that I can't remember everyone, but feel like I may have talked to Mr Acitelli in the past. If I did, I got the same "script" from him as I did from his representatives. I'll give this method a try and see if I can get some positive results from them. Thank you for the information, and your reply to my posted problem.
  8. Still nothing from Rossi... been waiting since October 26, 2015! I haven't fired my Taurus/Rossi Circuit Judge .45Colt/.410 since I found the hairline cracks in the butt-stock. Less than 50 rounds through it. Maybe Santa has some connections at Rossi... Merry Christmas Rossi.
  9. November Update... still no butt-stock. This stuff wears a person out! Maybe that's their plan...stick to the script that it's on order, until I finally go away. I don't think I've ever been treated by any well known business like Rossi/Taurus in my life. On a call or two back, the customer service rep hinted that they "may" get some butt-stocks in by the end of the year. She also said there was a waiting list ahead of me! This whole thing is like a bad dream that just goes on and on. This butt-stock was ordered on 10-26-16.
  10. I agree with Omega... that yote is acting un-natural, as they are very wary of humans. Once they get a whiff of human scent, they usually turn the afterburner on.
  11. Yeah, the camaraderie/fellowship is always a great part of the dove hunt. Just being out in the dove field with good friends are the ingredients for some good memories. Glad you had a good time... and got to break in that new shotgun. Good looking gun.
  12. Sorry to hear about your friend's tree stand accident. I hope he has a full recovery.
  13. Thanks xtriggerman, that may be the way for me to go. Supposedly, my barrel is stainless... but, a magnet will stick to it! Also, Westwind Mike had one that was stainless, and he said his was a lot shinier than mine. So, that smooth satin finish might match the barrel better. Hope things up your way are going well. Thanks again for the help before.
  14. Thanks for the information on the receiver. I figure it may take a while to find a receiver. Many Ruger 10/22s will bring more parted out than as a complete gun. A friend reports there were 10/22s at the Sparta Gun Show for $175! I also need the two smaller pins used to install the trigger assembly in the receiver. If anyone has a couple for sale in the Murfreesboro area, please let me know. Thanks.
  15. I have all of the parts needed to assemble my Ruger 10/22, except the receiver. If any of you know where I can purchase a used one at a reasonable cost, please PM me and let me know. Also, it has a stock Ruger stainless barrel. I'm planning to refinish the receiver to match the barrel. If any of you have done this before, I'd be interested in hearing the process you used and how it turned out. This is a new barrel, so I'm trying to make the receiver look new also. Thanks. cjwaa1@msn.com 615-519-3680
  16. I've hunted squirrels since I was a young boy, but in the late fall and winter. The trees still have full foliage, which makes it almost impossible to see them... at least it does for these tired old eyes. And, they still have all of the parasites on them. Same with rabbits. I used to always wait until after a hard freeze to hunt them, after the trees had shed their leaves.
  17. Didn't get to go today... had to work. Hope somebody limited out. Hope more people will chime in with reports. Like many, I didn't really have a place to go anyway. Maybe I'll get an invite later on in the season. I'll bet they were hard to hit today, with that additional tail-wind! I'll bet they were going by in afterburner!
  18. This receiver is a factory manufactured model with the rails and the center support already installed. Actually, the only four rivets that I'm really concerned about are the four in close proximity to the barrel in the forward trunnion. I thought about buying the bolt cutter and the correct AK jaws for it... but to drive four rivets, I couldn't justify it. I'll check out the classifieds. I've had this kit for years, just wanted to finish it and shoot it. Thanks.
  19. Thanks seez52. Sure wish you still had it. Did it do a good job of leaving the heads unmarred?
  20. I have a Romanian "Romy G" parts kit. I have de-milled it and removed the barrel from the forward trunnion. I have a D.C. Industries Model NDS-3 (NoDk Spud) receiver, with all rivet holes pre-drilled. The six (6) rivets in the fwd trunnion require special tools to drive them properly. I'm concerned about their structural integrity and head appearance. Otherwise, I could have just smashed them in there long ago. These rivets have to be driven to the proper length for the re-installation of the original barrel and barrel pin. I would be happy to pay anyone with the experience and skill to properly install these rivets a reasonable fee. I'm located in Murfreesboro and looking for someone within the general area of Middle Tennessee. Please PM me with what you'd charge me to install these six (6) rivets properly. Thanks.
  21. I'd like to publicly thank xtriggerman for his help in resolving this problem for me. I'm not sure how much he'd like me to say, so I don't want to violate any understanding with him. I guess I can say this, as he listed his credentials in an earlier post. I have never seen a more skillful artisan in the area of gunsmithing in my life...and I'm no spring chicken. I'm very thankful for the help he gave me, and our new friendship. We, here on TGO, are fortunate to have such a highly qualified, experienced, and knowledgeable member in our midst. Thank you again, xtriggerman, you're the best!
  22. Wow! Xtriggerman, you sure have the smithing credentials. If the offer still stands, would you be available this Wednesday? If so, and Westwind Mike is available on Wednesday, we might just head up your way. I'm thinking that we'd be leaving Murfreesboro around 9AM and guessing it'd take about an hour to an hour and a half to get to your place... which should put us there around 10:30, Murfreesboro time (CST). I know that's pretty close to lunch time, so I'd be glad to stop and pick up us up lunch from some place on the way. We can exchange phone numbers through a PM to smooth out final plans. I got the new pins in today along with the mag rear retainer spring and two new screws to hold the spring, just in case they're needed. Thanks
  23. Thanks for your very generous offer, xtriggerman. I just may take you up on that offer, if I can't get it cycling with the new parts I have coming. Actually, I was only replacing the aft, mag retainer spring, with the locking tabs. But, I have to remove the trigger parts to get the second screw out of the retainer spring. Or, at least it looks that way to me. That screw is buried under all of the trigger parts. I was in the Navy... the aviation branch of the Navy...Airdales, the "black shoes" (regular Navy) called us. Have most of the 342 triggers you've worked on, had rivets (aircraft rivets no less!) instead of pins holding the trigger parts in place? I have pins coming from Numrich. I hope they're not rivets. Thanks again.
  24. Xtriggerman, I think you are on something there, with the low hanging mag theory. I bought a new mag from Numrich, I believe, new old stock and it did the same thing. If supported from the bottom, the old mag seems to feed better than the new mag! These old 342s were cheap, back in the day, like most guns were. But they're not cheap these days! I'm beginning to call mine the money pit. If I have to hire a gunsmith to tinker with it until it feeds reliably, I'll have so much money in it that the only way to get my money out of it would be to keep it and use it. I'm danged if I do... and danged if I don't! Right now, I can only keep tinkering... in small tweeks, so as to not mess things up. It'll cycle the sharper pointed bullets, like Westwind Mike said, It's the soft point that jams... and I have a lot of them. I figure if I can get them cycling reliably, the rest will cycle like clockwork.
  25. Upon closer examination, the wear on the face of the bolt is on the bottom and seems to go around the bolt head as it's closed. It's on the outer edge of the bolt face, outside the pocket that the head of the cartridge fits into. The greatest wear on the bolt face is exactly the edge that picks up the head of the round to push it out of the magazine. There seems to be enough wear, that at times it slides over the top of the round, as the head of the round is pushed partially back down in the mag. The bullet end has raised toward the bullet ramp, and now the bold face contacts the cartridge case about midway and jams. It's damaging the shell casings to the point that I don't think they will be safe to reload! If I can find a new one, I'm considering replacing the bolt face (front) part of the bolt This must be a common problem, because Numrich is sold out of this part. This gun is turning into the money pit!
