  1. Savage is a nice little rifle. The Accu trigger is worth a few extra bucks. The Handi Rifle is a cheap little option as well. As far as calibers... go .243 and up. I'm not a slug fan, not that they don't work, I've just never had an accurate slug gun.
  2. Looking for good 22 mag ammo. I'm using the cci 40gr hollow points now and they aren't doing the job. The only coyote I've shot with it done the spins and ran off like his ears were on fire and his butt was catching. It was a straight on chest shot that should have buckled him. The other was a fox and if I told that story nobody would believe it anyway. So here's my question. What 22mag ammo have you used on game, coyote size and down, that seems to work the best? I know shot placement is key but I feel the cci's are either too light or are not staying together long enough to do maximum damage.

I know how back problems can keep ya out of the woods. Tomorrow will be my first deer hunt in two years. I don't expect much more than a few good hours in a tree.
  4. Sales of Oak Ridge. I made a short trip out to Oak Ridge and picked up my TGO uppers and lowers. I talked with Mike (the owner) about several things gun and not gun related. Couldn't help but like the guy. He took the time to go over some Class III stuff with me. Nothing went unanswered. When it comes time to purchase some upgrades he will be getting a call from me. BTW the uppers and lowers look great!
  5. The only thing that I oil is the slide rail. And even then it's a very, very small amount. The lube added to the trigger and the use of compressed air was only done so to see if anything would change. It was a way for me to narrow down the problem. That's not something I do to clean my guns on a regular basis. The firing pin was never oiled, I know that for sure.    I always used barrel foam to clean the barrel while the guns are disassembled. What I think happened is this: After cleaning the slide I added the foam to the barrel. I set the can of foam down with the slide under the can's straw. I walked of for 30 min. letting the foam do its thing.  Some of the foam expanded out the end of the straw and fell into the firing pin channel. It mixed with the powder and months later I have a problem. After thinking about it this is the only logical thing that could have happened.
  6. Eric, the wife carries the gun I bought from you and no problems at all. Mine has less than 400 rounds down the barrel and its always went bang. I can't help but believe I've done something to cause the problem. Could water have gotten in it while in the truck, did I get barrel foam in the slide during cleaning? The powder residue mixed with a sticky/wet substance of some kind.
  7. I want to start off by saying that I keep my guns clean. After shooting or hunting I take them down and clean them well. Having said that here is what I found on my Glock. The wife and I were gonna do a little dry firing. While unloading and removing the slides on our 26's I noticed I couldn't pull the trigger on mine. When the trigger was being forced back the slide would move rearward just a little but the trigger would not break. I finally jacked around with it and the trigger dropped. I removed the slide and cleaned the frame with CLP and compressed air. Nothing looked broken, bent, or out of place. I then moved on to the slide assembly. Nothing looked out of place until the firing pin was removed. The spring looked as if it had a Coke/coffee mixture in it. There was nothing on the slide or any other part of the gun...just the firing pin. I assume it was a mixture of lube and powder residue but I'm not a 100% on that. Anyway, I cleaned and reassembled it and it fires fine now. I took the wife's apart and looked it over. No goo on hers at all. I cleaned them the same way at the same time. So not for sure exactly what happened. I don't remember if the slide was disassembled after the last range session, but it was less than 100 rounds so that shouldn't have caused a build up of trash on the spring.    So if your Glock's trigger starts to get heavy take a look at the firing pin spring.
  8. One of only a few books to pull me in.
  9. "when he pulled the trigger"   Not your fault, sir. Your friend broke a couple rules that caused the AD. I hope he makes a full recovery.
  10. NICE!!
  11. :biglol:  :biglol:  Too funny.
  12. The TC is a nice ML. The only problem I've ever seen with the Triumph was they didn't like the tripple 7 primers. The action wouldn't lock on the Triumph using the t7 primers. You can pick up a nice used Kight ML for about $100. They have great triggers and shoot very well. Don't let the #11 cap thing scare ya off. Never had a failure to fire with my Knight.
  13. I've used the .223 to kill deer without any problems. No long tracking jobs, but I did shot them in the neck. Between the 223 and 300 BO I'd go with the 300. The head and neck will not always be an option. I'd hate to think some big horns got away from me because I didn't have the perfect head/neck shot. The BO will be just fine under 200 yards on deer. I have no experience with the other calibers so I can't help with that. I know a guy that hunts coyote with the Whisper and has done so for years. That little round can put some nice holes in thin skinned animals.
  14. I want to know who the maker of the gun was. Soooo I don't buy one.
  15. Love to hunt horns. I've never hunted high fence areas but have hunted areas where the smaller bucks get a pass. I don't have a problem with that. Would I like to kill a record size deer? Sure. Not going to be in a cage though. Money drives the deer farms and that will never stop. And I could care less. I can't determine what a trophy is for someone else.   We all tend to have the attitude that if it ain't done my way then it must be wrong. I remember when anyone using a crossbow was looked down upon. Now it's just the norm. I don't care if people hunt over bait, use a crossbow, or hunt high fence areas. If it's legal and it floats your boat....go for it.
  16. Been looking to buy one for some time now. My last one was a CJ5 and it needed a saddle. Son of a gun would go about anyplace but it rode rough.
  17. In for 2 lowers and 2 uppers.
  18. Love to hunt and trap coyote. Got into coyote vocalizations some years back. Having them respond to barking and howling makes my day.
  19. They have done a couple trigger jobs for me as well. Triggers were well done and I have no complaints.

    Facebook

Many jobs have been lost because of a FB post. I do have FB but don't accept requests or friend any co-workers. Not that I post bad things about work or co-workers because I don't. I just prefer to keep things separate. I see enough of those people M-F. I'm sure they see enough of me too. After some changes FB made I removed some people that were mutual friends of co-workers. I didn't like the fact that if my friend "liked" a photo that their friends could see the photo. Email address on an application is an easy way to find out a lot about a future employee via FB. And I promiss it happens.
  21. Ya just never know what you will see in a day!! 100% not for me. lmao
  22. I'm in for two. Do we know the price yet?
  23. The box isn't broken at all. It only looks that way because the label isn't straight.
  24. Guy I work with was complaining about some 17 ammo he bought. Two of the rounds looked like the bullet was seated a little too deep and the other failed to fire. Have you guys seen or heard of such? He shoots a Savage that's never had a problem in the past. The two rounds that have the bullets drove down in the case were never put in the rifle. That's the way they came out of the box. I've shot a lot of .22 and .22mag and have never seen this before. You can see the pin strike at about the 10 o'clock position
  25. NRA hit it on the head. A dehu will get rid of the moisture very fast. I run one under the house from May-September.
