1.   Thanks for the info--   Because i like to as "why" everytime someone tells me something, whats the harm in storing it in the sheath? Please don't take me wrong--i'm not questioning your advise. I'm just  trying to learn....   Thanks again!
2. I have a vintage ka-bar knife which served in Pearl Harbor in 1941. This knife was given to my late grandfather by the family of one of the men he served beside in the navy. To date, i have done nothing with the knife other than a light coat of oil from time to time. I won't ever sale it--i just want to know how to properly care for it until it is passed on again. Any suggestions......Pictures below.
3. I got this awesome knife from Spots last week. I can't believe the edge he put on this thing! Very impressive--Thanks again!
4. If you say so.......One gun for a particular circumstance is none if you have only one. IF you have another that could complete the given task your covered (in my opinion)
5. I agree that dogs are a great idea. However, my 90lb lab did not do what i had expected when we experienced a unexpected guest. Typically, if anyone is outside the house, he will go nuts. Aggressive barking, pacing--the whole deal. However, when my wife and i finally positioned ourselves for whatever cards were dealt, the lab positioned himself right beside us--laying on the floor--whining. I dont know if he sensed our stress and reacted accordingly or maybe he was simply scared ####less. Regardless, he was not the first line of defense that i had hoped for. Still love him to death and he will still typically alert me of someone outside but--dogs aren't perfect. To rely on a dog for protection, i would consider some specialized training. For a noise maker, ours is typically pretty good--til it mattered most.
6.
Yes. That's the amount of coverage I have. Just added it to my renter's insurance. It's only about $15 more a month.
Might want to change you first post. No reason to tell the world (internet) the value of your personal assets.............just thinking out loud
7. State farm covers my assets (home, life, vehicle, other). IF you live in the Tri Cities and don't have coverage or you wonder about your coverage, please let me know. I can help you locate a agent who cares about your needs and respects your rights.
8. If you cook something over a long period of time it better have some fat. I think i would go a differant direction with deer. You can smoke fish (very low fat) but it gets to a low internal tempature and it is done very quickly.
9. I'm going high--12--thinning the herd i guess
10. Looks good Jeff
11. Welcome! I attended ETSU a few years ago. If your not in the marksmanship club you need to be. Its great to go to the range under the mini dome and shoot for an hour or so between classes. Aarron Henley is a great instructor too.
12.
Congratulations on your first 1911. Some may poo-poo your choice, but don't take it too seriously. The Taurus 1911 is a good shooter, with the potential in the right hands, to be really good. Maybe not great; but for a stock, out of the box...it's pretty good. I've had 2 so far, a highgloss blue and a stainless. Sold the blue to get the stainless. Also have a pretty little one in .38Super and it is great. And I'm not one who says Taurus is the best or the worst. There's good and bad in all. Just to confuse the issue, I've also got some other makes, and had even more. Some I like and have kept. Others have left me.My current fav has got to be the Sig 1911 though. SWEET!! Have a C3 and a TacOps and won't, barring major problems, be leting them go.
THanks--if anyone is really troubled by my "cheaper" 1911, they are more than welcome to buy me a nicer one
13. For along time now, the lucrative 1911 has eluded me. I have literally went to the gun shop to buy one and came home with something else. I finally broke the curse. I have shot the 1911 platform in the past and i really respect the history and nostalgia that goes along with this firearm. Coming from the DOA-GLOCK generation, a 1911 was lacking in my meager collection. I went with a Taurus for the out of the box features. I don't plan on doing much to this particular 1911. BUT.......i think this gun needs a little sister--like a a Springer PX9161LP Loaded Ultra Compact. Anyway, here's some pictures: (Please ignore the damaged drywall)
14. Works for me. It's a very interesting read to say the least. Sadly, i took it as a five week course. I only saw bits and pieces in depth. PM your shipping info.
15. I have some textbooks i would like to donate to anyone in need (i put them in this forum hoping to increase the odds considering higher traffic--please relocate if needed). They are all used within the last year. If you or a child/relative/kid you know needs any of them, i will just need a shipping information. Most of these books are sold used for a minimum of $50-$100. [b]I do ask that you pass these along free of charge after you or someone you know completes the course. 16. Very NIce!
17. I have seen both sides of this. I was pulled over twice and simply told "don't touch yours and i wont touch mine." However, the last stop for my tinting "appearing" too dark (later it was found to be legal-black truck, black interior makes it look dark), the officer took my firearm out of the center console and ran the numbers on it. He asked me if there was one in the chamber. I told him yes. He couldn't get the slide to the rear because he forgot to disengage the safety (Sig 238). I sure felt safe. I don't think he had cause to do this but that's just my uneducated opinion. I have no record (tickets or otherwise) and a valid HCP. Oh well........ Oh, for what its worth, the officer admitted to being new. He was on permanent traffic duty and apologized for tugging on the slide without flipping the safety out of the way....
18. Welcome!
19. I am in the HVAC business and this is way to common. Regarding a earlier post, condensing units are not typically attached to concrete. In most cases, synthetic pads are now used. We have replaced several this year that have been stolen. Two were stolen from a commercial facility on the same night. Form the looks of the lawn, they threw a tow strap to them and moved them to the road. The worst thing about this crime is the money involved. Typically, you can get $200-400 for a split system at the scrap yard. The average homeowner pays $4,000-12,000 to replace what was stolen with modern technology. If you are concerned about this, we suggest the product listed below. It is not 100% but it will make your system harder to steal than your neighbors without protection http://acstolen.com/
20.
im just astounded that with all tge excellent choices out there THAT is the one you chose Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
same here. I can't see why anyone would use this method of carry unless it was the first holster ever developed..............
21. I would like to attend but i am on the other side of the state. I dare say 2-3 others from this area would join if we had plenty of notice (carpool). Please post the dates as soon as you can. It will take a but of planning when covering hundred of miles--but i don't think a person could put a price tag on the value of the info/experiences you have to present.
22. I'm in. Thanks for the info
23. Welcome--nice to have another member from the area on the boards. btw--nice gun...G34 i assume? Picture possibly taken in fall branch or church hill?
24. I understand where you are coming from. Here was my situation. Maybe it will help you. Personally, i have dimmer switches on the lights in the hallways and main rooms. I keep the lights on a low dim at night. I'm sure it costs me a few dollars a month in energy but crooks hate light and i can see my target (assuming it is a threat to my location--if you can get by the dogs and the alarm the unoccupied bedrooms are yours for the taking...just dont step in the hallway)
