Anyone else watching the new Lock and Load with R. Lee Ermey? Looks like they're about to hold up the Glock as the perfect pistol.

Second the P07. I was also leery of all the problems I was reading about in the CZ Forum, but mine has been trouble free so far. It *does* have a slight bulge in the frame, but it has not hindered performance yet. I am confident that if there is a problem, CZ will right it. The slide is smallish but it is not ornerous to grasp and rack. The slide release was a bit stiff at first, but either my thumb has bulked up or the release has worn in a little because now it's a lot easier. Ergonomics are beautiful, the trigger is excellent, recoil is extremely light, and the price is right.

If you're comfortable with the NAA, why not hold on to it? But if you look at the P238, let me know because I've got a used one for sale.

Ok guys, here's a tip: Don't ask the Wal-Mart guys anything because they know very little. I've noticed that most of them like to talk up the ammo shortage rather than give you a realistic assesment on the state of Wal-Mart's inventory. When I ask about ammo, I always get some story about how they haven't seen ammo since winter, blah blah blah. That isn't even a little bit true. The last 2 Wal-Marts I went to had plenty of ammo, especially compared to the real drought during the last winter. .45 and .38 might be slightly harder to find than 9mm or .40S&W, but it's still out there. If you visit Wal-Mart once or twice a week, you will more than likely stumble across the ammo you need. The exception would be .380. I don't know why, but I really haven't seen any .380 since November at Wal-Mart.

It can feel top heavy until you load a magazine w/ 16 rounds. I quite liked the way it felt in my hand and the way it pointed. Much easier to shoot than a Glock 19...felt like shooting a USP as a matter of fact.
-
I took mine to the range today. Effortless to shoot in sa mode but da was a bit stiff. Ran 107 rounds through it with no malfunctions of any sort. Mix of federal 9mm an jhp winchesters. All in all an excellent gun but I'm thinking of swapping or selling for a single stack or m&p.

Just saw this on another forum. It's still available

Another +1 for Bellshire Hardware. Went there this morning to do a FFL transfer. Quick, painless, and relatively cheap. Owner was a hoot.

Truly cheaper than dirt....

As times change, standards change. For instance, a V8 was once considered mandatory for a car that accelerates decently. Improvements to engines in general have made 4 cylinder engines as powerful as V8s in the past. Modern V8's are still more powerful, but modern 4 cylinders have more than enough ooomph for the average driver. I think this fellow Gabe is trying to say that modern .45 rounds are still more powerful than modern 9mm rounds, but modern 9mm rounds have passed the threshold of lethality that makes them OK for EDC.

So what is the recoil comparable to? PF-9, P-11, .38+P snubbie?

That's some fancy shooting, especially for a first timer. How far away was she?

Yeah, the letter advises store owners to send back unsold inventory and provide the address and phone # of everyone who bought a pistol, along with the SN of the pistol they purchased. P238 Upgrade That's the letter addressed to customers online. I did not catch the link the first time I read the letter I have.
-
Call them and make sure. The letter states that the safety issue is the main reason, but also because "Upon receipt of the firearm, SIG SAUER will, at no cost to the owner, eliminate the risk identified above by replacing the subject part and performing functional upgrades that have been incorporated into the P238, subsequent to it's introduction." Translation: they rushed and released the beta version, got about 3000 suckers to buy them, and now they have the patch that everyone has to apply or they can't play.

The letter I received was addressed to "Dear DISTRIBUTOR/RETAILER" and dated July 22, 2009. I'm not 100% sure why they sent it to me. I knew something was up on Thursday. I should have said something like, "If they replaced the spring, why aren't they shipping it yet?" But they just said, "A few more days." So they knew they were keeping it for this safety upgrade, but they weren't going to tell me about it. I only found out because they accidentally sent me this letter.

I received a notice for a certified letter. I went and picked it up this morning, thinking it was something from the IRS or something similarly important, but it was just a letter from Sig Sauer. Notifying me that a "MANDATORY SAFETY UPGRADE" was needed on my pistol because the gun MIGHT go off if you turn the safety off. Sort of IMPORTANT. I called them up because I've had my pistol there for about two weeks now. The mainspring jumped the recoil guide rod, jamming the pistol. I called about a couple of weeks ago, and they sent me a new spring. I put that one in, and the same thing happened. I shipped it off to them, and calling for a status check on Thursday, I was told that it was finished, and that they had replaced the mainspring. I told them that the mainspring had been replaced previously. They said, "Well, that's what I'm reading here". When I tried to pitch a fit, they just said, "I can only read what they wrote about it." Great. So I called them up an hour ago about this MANDATORY SAFETY UPGRADE and I said, "Hey, what's the deal with this recall?" He said, "It's not a recall sir, it's a mandatory safety upgrade because..." and I cut him off, saying, "the damn thing might go off if I turn the safety off?" "Yes." "Sounds like a recall to me." If you have a P238, SN DA000501 - DA003216 you need to send it back. Call up "customer service" and see what bored sounding rep you get. Anyways, I'm pretty steamed about all of this. They said they're going to ship it out "in a few days". I think I'm going to just sell it without even testing. I paid a premium for a pistol that is totally f*cking up. My other Sig Sauer adventure, a Mosquito, was a giant POS. I think I'm going to find another brand to buy from now on. Like Smith and Wesson.

I have a Magazine that won't feed reliably

Haha, not quite. I always heard that you should rest your magazine springs, so I like to keep half my mags unloaded at any one time. When I go to the range, I swap full magazines for empty ones. But after hearing that wear on the spring is from decompressing and compressing rather than long term compression, I might just keep a few loaded and use the others exclusively as range mags. -
Calypso Cafe makes pretty good carribean food. There is also a Jamaican place in the Farmer's Market that is excellent (Johnny cake, rice and peas, fried plantains, and jerk sauce...delicious) and a Cuban place off of 65 at the Harding exit called Back to Cuba. They make a killer roast pork with rice and black beans, but the menu varies a little from day to day. A little OT, but I like food. On the thread issue, I personally feel that if somebody wants to post a sign on their private property and disallow firearms, that is their business, and I should follow the house rules or step off. If my house is my castle, why can't his restaurants be his domain?

I saw it. Frankly, I'm a little sick of the History channel repackaging the same info in a dozen different shows. At least they weren't using the same stock footage like they do sometimes. Tales of the Gun, etc. I like Gunny, but man...he is starting to sound like an old man on TV. The same booming note that he had in his voice in Full Metal Jacket and even in Mail Call seems to be missing. The camera work was a little weak too. Too frenetic, too much forced energy. How many times does a camera have to start far away and then zig zag to a close up of Gunny? That smells like a trick to keep 5 year olds glued to the set. All in all, I'll watch it again next week

Is there a bad grease to put on guns? I have some mil-com, but I was wondering about the various paintball greases I have. I have various formulations, but they all seem super slick and have the added bonus of not dissolving rubber/urethane. What's so special about this slide-glide I've been hearing about? I'm guessing Vaseline is pretty stupid to use on guns?

Thanks for the tips guys. I went to the range the other day with my newly stretched spring and well cleaned mag and I had zero issues. It's been relegated to the position of "range mag", but if it keeps up the good work, I might put it back in the home defense rotation. -
Shot a box of Federal .45 from WM a couple of weeks ago. No misfires or failures to feed or wildly inaccurate shots, but it was just one box.
-
I believe it varies from Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart. The ones near me seem to get restocked mid-week. The one in Cool Springs seems to have ammo on Fridays or Thursdays.
-
I picked up a 555 Winchester pack the other day. 36 grain plated bullets. Look pretty good, but I haven't shot any yet. I'm still working on a Federal bulk pack. If you really want bullets from WM, check every Tuesday and Thursday. Eventually you'll bump into a fresh shipment.

I would try calling beforehand. The last time I was there, they had some pistol ammo, but it was extremely expensive. Think 2x what Wal-Mart charges. They were also rationing it at 2 boxes per person. They also did not have .380 or .45 or .38 or .357. Only some 9mm and .40. They did have plenty of .22 and rifle ammo, but again, extremely expensive.
