  1. It is primarily a hardware store of the mom and pop variety. It's a family run business, and yes, no guns are actually on display. I like them because the owner Phil is very cool, they're very reasonable in their prices (lowest FFL transfer fees in town), and I got a killer deal on a LCP, despite the outrageous prices some other vendors are still looking for. He also has a nice selection of ammo. He even had a couple of boxes of .380 at 16.99, which is dirt cheap.
  2. You're right. I'm already eye balling a Dan Wesson of some sort. By checking, do you mean look at the SN? Mine has the NM prefix, which supposedly means it was at least assembled in the US. I hope it was made in the US too, but I heard it was probably actually forged in Brazil.
  3. I went by Guns for America once, and found the prices to be on the high side. Does the owner cotton to haggling?
  4. IMHO, the 2 greatest gun shops near Nashville are Guns & Leather and Bellshire Hardware & Guns. G&L has a good selection, friendly staff, and a great indoor range. Bellshire has less stock on hand, but they have equally friendly staff and lower prices.
  5. If you're new to shooting, most definitely a .22. Mil-surp ammo is cheap, but .22 is cheaper by several magnitudes. Nothing makes you a better shot faster or cheaper than plopping down at the range for a few hours with 20 bucks of .22 ammo.
  6. Memphis Zoo? I went, and there was a lot to see. Pandas too! Real ones, in addition to the fake red ones like Grassmere made a hoopla about.
  7. Some other possible rules. Do you have a case for the pistol? Have it unloaded with no magazine in the case when you hit the range. Clean up after yourself. Nobody likes a pig. Finger off the trigger until you're aimed at a target, ready to shoot. If you're a bad shot, nobody is judging. Everyone walks before they run. Listen to the rangemaster. If there is one, go introduce yourself as a new shooter. Most are happy to help you get settled.
  8. Try coltforum.com. I found a lot of links in posts to areas rich in Colt information.
  9. Looks like I'll finally have a reason to upgrade my trusty computer. Or just pick up a 360.
  10. I developed the exact same issues as you. First coldish night after months of hot ones and I know I'm going to be congested and feel crappy for a couple of days. Never happened to me before I moved here. Tried to tell my doctor that, but he called me a liar. Isn't that nice.
  11. Don't encourage them. Keep up the faith, there is .380 to be found elsewhere for cheaper.
  12. Weren't they for the US Army trials in the eighties? Nevermind. According to Wikipedia: The SIG P210 was just too costly to manufacture, and the Swiss Army wanted a cheaper semi-automatic handgun, but it still had to provide excellent functionality and a double-action trigger. SIG, in cooperation with a German arms company, J.P. Sauer & Sohn, developed a new pistol. In 1975 the A75 (as it was known in the Swiss Army service), or 9mm SIG-Sauer P220, debuted with various new and inventive features. It utilized a single column magazine holding eight 9 mm rounds and had a 3.9 in. barrel.
  13. Boooo....I thought I was going to save some money! Now I'll have to ship through a FFL and pay slightly less than I would to FedEx to overnight the damn thing.
  14. Indeed. Too often police treat property theft as a non-crime.
  15. I bought it but never got around to playing it. I liked HMM IV though.
  16. No kidding...I guess it's not like UPS can throw your butt in jail for not following their house rules. You just saved me 30-40 bucks! Thanks!
  17. The way I understood it, non-FFL holders must use a private shipping service and those shipping services require firearms to be sent overnight. If there is a cheaper way to ship, I am all ears.
  18. So what exactly was the problem with the P3AT? Were you unable to get a firm grip? Or was it the lousy trigger? Bad sights alone? Or combination of all 3? J-Frames are quite accurate, but the DAO trigger isn't as easy to master as, say, the SAO trigger on the P238. My own experience with the 238 has soured me on them forever, but I cannot deny that they're easy to shoot well. SAO light trigger with light recoil and probably enough real estate for your long fingers to get a grip. On the larger side of pocket carriable guns, but definitely easier to pocket carry than a G26.
  19. No kidding....what do you use, may I ask? The regular Springfield 7-round flush fit mags?
  20. What's BRD? Something Rifle Disease? Edit: Duh. Black Rifle Disease? If so, I plan on catching that one next
  21. Thanks for the input fellas. I want to be perfectly clear: I love this pistol as is. It's American made and for once, that seems to mean something. This is a solid, well made pistol and for me, it was a natural fit. Recoil is nothing special. My GP100 in .357 mag easily kicks harder. I plan on keeping it stock for quite some time, but I want to be aware of any options out there and what they supposedly do versus what they actually do. The only mod I see in the near future would be new Wilson 8-round mags. I hear they're the bees knees. The wood grips are very handsome and comfortable, and I don't plan on replacing them with Hogues or what have you. I actually have a large selection of .45 grips from my paintball collection, but these wood grips are as fine as anything I've got. I'm also happy with the sights I have on there, but who knows what the future holds.
  22. Reading it again, I think you're right. How do they expect people to ship a POS overnight on their own dime?
  23. I just picked up a Springfield Mil-spec from G&L and I really couldn't be happier. I want to shoot it some more before I start modifying, but it doesn't hurt to start looking, right? So I heard replacing the barrel bushing is a good place to start as it gives a good performance return on investment. What should I look for in an aftermarket bushing? What are other potential mods I can do that will be inexpensive and effective? Perhaps a heavier recoil spring? Does that reduce recoil?
  24. Weak. In this market it's hard to imagine a 9mm/.38 in working condition worth less than 200. Maybe a new high point?
  25. Awww...I made it out to Guns and Leather earlier that afternoon to purchase a 1911, but I couldn't make the shoot at 5pm. Looks like I'll have to definitely get out there for the next one.
