  1. Sounds like we need a TGO Chili Cook-Off. I will try that round steak idea, HexHead. I think one of the things I'm looking for in a chili is a good texture, and you just can't achieve it with store bought ground beef. Should I look specifically for round steak, or would top round, top sirloin etc do? Any of you guys have the chili at Longhorn's before? It's an OK chili, mostly because it's beanless and the bread they serve is great with it. Who knows of a place dishing out good chili in the middle TN area?
  2. Anyone willing to share a recipe? I've tried a few online with very little success. I usually end up with hamburger in a bowl, or bean soup. Always lacking flavor. My favorite store mix is Carrol Shelby's, but that isn't anything special either. I only like it because there is a little masa in the package to thicken everything up.
  3. Do you mean the Ultra Compact? If so, I just traded a Hi-Cap one away. It was extremely accurate and reliable and surprisingly did NOT kick like a mule. I thought the recoil was more manageable than a full size Government 1911. This was a non-ported Loaded. I'm not sure the ported barrel will be all that useful in reducing recoil, and the muzzle blast will be increased.
  4. A couple of weekends ago me and a couple of female friends went to the range and shot a G19 and G23 side by side. I found very little difference in the recoil, and while my friends noticed, they did not think the G23's recoil to be excessive. I would get a Glock 19. It's just way cheaper to shoot. Like 35% cheaper than .40.
  5. So, which backstrap size gives you a grip most similar to the 3rd gen glocks? Medium?
  6. I just bought a Chive. It's a very nice knife, but I'm not 100% sure it's going to replace my Case knife.
  7. Amazon.com: SteriPEN Journey with FitsAll Filter and Nalgene 1-Liter BPA Free Bottle: Sports & Outdoors On sale for 44.86. Looks interesting. UV treatment then a little filtration and you have potable water. Anyone know anything about it?
  8. Thanks for the help guys. I was thinking blue loc-tite, but I guess red is required to stand up to the .45.
  9. I've got a Springfield 1911 with Novak sights. The rear sight has a set screw that's supposed to keep it from moving around. However, after a few mags, the set screw will work itself loose and a gentle tap will easily throw my rear sight off alignment. What are some things I can look at to stop this? Loctite? Teflon tape? Get a new rear sight?
  10. I saw a stack of Federal .40, which is brass cased FMJ, for 13.95 per box of 50 at Wal-Mart just the other weekend. Dick's is ridiculous with prices sometimes.
  11. From what I can see, looks like a class act all the way. Your wife deserves something extry for this one. Congrats.
  12. Wal-Mart on Old Hickory and Nolensville had an unbelievable amount of Federal .40. Easily 30+ boxes. Also a few boxes of Federal bulk .22, one box of Remington .357 magnum JSP, a couple of boxes each of .25, .44 mag, .357 sig, .223, and 7.62x39.
  13. Yes, I have traded via internet. We were both wary, but after enough communication we felt comfortable enough to do the trade. Of course, I insisted that he sent first. When I went to pick it up, I took the pistol I was trading with me. I did a visual inspection of what he sent me and then I sent him his half of the bargain. All in all, worked out fine. Phil at Bellshire Hardware only charged me 1 background check fee to send and receive, so I saved a little doing that. He was also very helpful with the legalities of the situation.
  14. Guns and Leather in Greenbriar. They have two showcases dedicated to 1911's and you WILL be helped. Bellshire Hardware also has a few 1911's in stock at the moment. They're a no frills gun shop.
  15. I think Guns and Leather has available for rent the P11 and they may also have a Bersa 9mm. They definitely have new ones for sale. Might want to give them a call: it's not that much of a drive from Clarksville.
  16. The specimen I shot was the rental P11 at Guns and Leather so maybe it wasn't the best P11 around. However I am at ease shooting DA GP100, SW 38+p Airweight, CZs, LCP etc. The P11 had a very long and extremely heavy pull with the break coming all the way at the end. It was really lacking in smoothness and consistency. Recoil is pretty nasty too. Didn't want to shoot more than one mag.
  17. I can't speak on the Bersa, but I've shot the P11. I thought the trigger was horrendous. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and I'm no stranger to DAO pistols. I also thought it was unsuitable for pocket carry, and if you're going to holster, why not get something easier to shoot.
  18. lol While this isn't my sort of thing, it does look like a durable finish.
  19. I believe they actually purchased the plans and rights to produce these from Colt. Perhaps the production gear too.
  20. I won't buy another Sig after my 238 experience. Sounds like I had the same problems you had. Good luck with yours.
  21. You didn't list it, but you may want to check out the CZ RAMI. I happen to have one for sale, but I'd throw it out there as any option even if I didn't. Has a safety, 10 round capacity, extremely great shootability, and it's about the size of a Glock 26, if not a little smaller. Weighs a teensy bit more because it's alloy versus polymer. If you want to try it sometime, I've been meaning to go the range.
  22. If this extracts reliably, it might be a winner. Low recoil and 30 rounds in a mag? Can't say no to that.
  23. Sorry, I wasn't trying to crap on your post, merely update it. I doubt the .380 lasted more than 30 minutes Lowbud: Guns and Leather has a good supply of a variety of calibers. The Wal-Marts are a crap shoot, but you may get lucky. I'm pretty sure the Harding Place Wal-mart will still have .40 and 9mm left, at least. Probably 7.62x39 as well. Academy in Cool Springs seems to always have 9mm and .40 these day. Other calibers are dicey. Same with Dick's in Cool Springs. They even had a few cases of .380 the last time I was there, which was about a month ago. If you were coming in on a weekday, I'd direct you to Bellshire Hardware. He has all calibers in stock at last check.
