  1. I've had comcast out to my place 3 or 4 times now because my internet will mysteriously stop working for hours at a time, usually when I want to use it the most. Each time, I get some bonehead excuse and "Well, it seems to be working now". The most recent call in yesterday yielded a tech with this suggestion: our signal is too strong, and combined with the splitter, the modem can't properly synch with Comcast sometimes. So I have to wait 3 hours for a tech to show up today, so he can tune the signal down. We'll see if it works. I seriously doubt it, because several techs ago, it was suggested that the signal was too low. Nobody at Comcast ever knows what anybody else is doing.
  2. WM on Old Hickory had several boxes of 100 pack WWB .45 and .40. Also had stacks of Federal 9mm and .40. .357 sig, .38 special, and oodles of Fed bulk .22 were also available.

I think Bellshire Hardware has one in stock. I'm sure Phil will give you a deal.
  4. Haha, yeah OhShoot, I've got to be more careful with my wallet at gun shows. Usually I'm able to resist, thinking I can find the same or better deal at a local gun shop like G&L, but this one was too rare and I was basically rutting for a .22. And calibrated sights...I've always wanted a .22 rifle with an adjustable calibrated military-style sight. I did a little research and posted on RFC, and apparently, this is a fairly rare 1956 or so military trainer that the German Bundeswehr commissioned. 3000 made, apparently. So that's pretty cool, and probably the reason why this feels like a K98 in the hand. Hard to tell if I underpaid or overpaid, only time will tell really. Thanks for the comments guys. If you see some dork putting rounds downrange with a semi-defiled Anschutz at Hobson Pike or G&L, feel free to tap me on the shoulder to give the 54 a whirl.
  5. Cool. Any particular reason why the 54 receiver is so good?
  6. Have you check rimfirecentral.com? If anyone knows, they post over there.
  7. I also went. Hard to get any elbow room, and I heard more than a few people muttering about all the damn people. I found a decent deal, but like mustangdave said, it really depends on what you were looking for and who had it. I tried talking to some people with rifles slung or pistols in hand, but their prices were usually really high. I saw one of the new Chiappa 1911 .22's for 289 and a fellow was selling a lot of older .22 rifles, like an Ithaca lever action, Marlin lever, Winchester lever, colt bolt rifle, etc for 200-300. Not blow out prices, but not the worst in the world either. Then I saw somebody trying to sell .40 FMJ for $25/box. So, goes either way.
  8. So definitely not open tomorrow either? I just got a new rifle
  9. Haha...I just ran a Super Colibri through it to test the trigger. Butter-smooth. The heft the rifle is great! It feels like a center fire rifle, like a K98 or something. Can't wait to try it at the range tomorrow. I'll try to put the adjustable sights to work.
  10. Picked up an Anschutz 54 single shot .22 today for far less than what I see others go for online at the gun show. Did I get rooked? It's not in first class shape but I haggled a bit. I'll post pictures here in a second. When I google it I only see anschutzs with mag fed actions and on really fancy stocks. Apparently it's a military trainer?
  11. Most definitely fact. If you feel comfortable driving without a seat belt or riding a motorcycle with flip flops and no helmet, then maybe you'll like carrying around a loaded Glock with the trigger uncovered. Disaster may only happen rarely, but it can happen. Why do you think you carry around a gun all the time?
  12. Very cool. I'd be interested in seeing those pistols with the slides closed.
  13. Very cool. By the way, thanks for being a RSO. You guys do a top notch job of keeping that range safe and running efficiently.

Haha, reminds me of that scene in Unforgiven where Clint can't hit a can with a pistol, but he can with his shotgun. After doing some internet drooling, I'm really leaning towards the CZ452 w/ iron sights or a M&P 15-22. The CZ is just too nice to pass by without some serious consideration. I'll have to go to G&L and check them out.
  15. I caught the scene where they're forced to ambush a German convoy to try to save two of their guys stuck in the mine field. Talk about ghetto shooting! They did a nice panning shot, showing guys blazing away. Clearly, only Clint had some training. He had his Thompson shouldered and he was sighting down the barrel. Everyone else was doing the eyes closed, gun-as-far-away-from-my-body-as-I-shoot drill. One guy even had his gun sideways, gangsta glock style.

I'm not new to .22, just looking for a new rifle and ways to improve my off-hand shooting. My Savage Mark II shot best with Wolf Match, Remington Target, Federal Bulk or Remington Yellow Jackets. Only average with Remington Golden Bullets. All over the place with Mini-Mags and Winchester HV. Even with a 12x scope, I could not get groups tighter than about a baseball at 100 yards with a .22. I figure if I can get a group that tight at that distance with iron sights, I can shoot accurately with any other rifle with iron sights at any distance. Maybe I'll just keep searching the used racks until I find a semi-auto that shoulders nicely and has good, precise sights. I don't want Hi-Viz sights or anything like that, just nice adjustable sights. Anyone know if the M&P 15-22 has aperture sights or regular notch and post sights? Actually, anybody have an opinion on a CZ452 w/ iron sights?

That's kind of why I don't want to get a 10/22. I know some people really like to trick out their gear, but I'd rather spend my money on other guns or ammo.

I feel the same way, but when I see my buddy shoot off-hand with irons, I get jealous. At 100 yards, I wouldn't be looking for a quarter sized group, but if I can hit a pie plate at 100 yards over and over again, I would consider myself successful. And of course, up until a couple of decades ago, iron sights were IT. So I have faith that I CAN learn, it's just a question of sweating it out, I think. The Savage accutrigger is quite nice, but I believe they're only available on their bolt guns. The cheap Savage 64 does not have it, and I'm not sure if Savage makes any other semis.

If you go to the Forum page (where you can see links to all the threads) there should be a button on the upper left portion of the page that says "New Thread". If you click on that, you can start a new thread.
  20. What about Unforgiven, on right before? Kelly's Heroes is one of my favorite WWII movies.

I've done quite a bit of bench shooting, and while it's fun, my off-hand rifle shooting is rather pathetic. I can put together a dime sized group off a bench from 25m, but off hand...it's more like softball sized. What's a decent semi-auto that might improve my skill with iron sights out to 100 yards or so? Any tips besides practice? When I tried shooting with iron sights in the past, it was shoot a couple of times, then check with a scope to see my POA, and then try to adjust. I'm thinking: -S&W M&P 15-22 -Mossberg/Savage Stevens Academy/Wal-Mart/Dick's special -Ruger 10/22 -Marlin Model 60 I want accuracy, half-way decent trigger and good iron sights. I've got a buddy with a Model 60 and peep sights, and he can do about a poker chip at 25m off hand. The M&P is very appealing, but also the most expensive. I would not put any mods on any of these rifles, except maybe better iron sights. I kicked around the idea of a lever or bolt .22, but I'm thinking that when practicing, I would prefer to keep my sight picture rather than losing it momentarily while working a lever or bolt. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I would also not be scared of keeping an eye out for an older out of production used model of some sort.
  22. Depends on your definition of fun. For me, fun shooting is challenging shooting. Guns that punch out the X with a minimum of effort and with large ammo capacities aren't fun to me. I'd get a .357 mag snubbie like S&W M&P360. Ridiculous to shoot with full powered loads, but still fun. And crazy accurate. Or a 3.5" 1911. I like shooting those a lot.
  23. It'll be more than a few weeks. They're only releasing the G17 and G22 at first, then a while later the compacts, then the subcompacts.
  24. Well, I'm glad to hear that he's out of the Stadium. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to check out his new location.
  25. Is he in B-wood now? I used to eat there when he was out by the Fairgrounds and when he moved downtown, and then once at Greer Stadium. I like his brisket and his beans and not much else. The Diablo Shrimp and wings and assorted tacos were disappointing.
